Some of the descriptions of certain gourmet cat foods today are so mouth-watering that they could tempt anyone to try them.
Take, for example, Petites, a new collection from Fancy Feast, which offers dishes like 'Grilled Chicken Entrée with Rice in Gravy,' 'Seared Salmon Entrée with Spinach in Gravy,' and 'Ocean Whitefish Entrée with Tomato in Gravy.' Although these meals are intended for cats, the concept of enjoying a seared salmon dinner with spinach might appeal to you. As reported by Food & Wine, Purina has released a digital cookbook that guides you in recreating human-friendly versions of these meals.
Petite Feast: A Cookbook [PDF] contains a total of 12 recipes—five featuring chicken, five with salmon, and two using whitefish. Ten of the recipes were created by Amanda Hassner, Fancy Feast’s official cat food chef, with two contributed by guest chefs. Jerrelle Guy, a James Beard Award-nominated chef and the author of Black Girl Baking, shared her recipe for 'Salmon Cappelletti in a Cream and Spinach Sauce,' which even includes instructions for making the pasta from scratch. Guy’s cat, Christopher, often assists in taste-testing recipes for her blog, Chocolate for Basil.
For those who prefer a mix of sweet and spicy, Josh Snyder’s 'Honey Sriracha Grilled Chicken with Spicy Fried Rice' might be the perfect choice. When he's not creating recipes for cat food-inspired cookbooks, Snyder is busy with his website, Baking with Josh & Ange, which he runs with his wife Angela Kinsey (known for portraying Angela Martin, the biggest cat lover on The Office). The couple shares their home with two cats, Oreo and Snickers.
While most of the recipes differ significantly from their feline counterparts, the similarities are few. For instance, Hassner's 'Roasted Salmon with Spiced French Toast, Cardamom Carrots and Maple Rosemary Sauce' only shares salmon with its related Petite dish. But you can always tell your cat you're eating the same thing—they probably won’t mind (at least not vocally).
