The classic Big Mac recipe—two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, and a sesame seed bun—has remained the same since McDonald's introduced it in 1967. Now, customers can experience the original flavor with double the beef. According to Food & Wine, the Double Big Mac is returning to McDonald's menus nationwide for a limited time.
McDonald's Menu Spotter confirms that the Double Big Mac will be available at participating locations starting January 24. It features all the ingredients of the original Big Mac, including the signature double-sliced bun. Instead of one patty per level, two patties are stacked on each side for an extra meaty experience.
This isn't the first time McDonald's has given its iconic burger an indulgent twist. The Double Big Mac first debuted in March 2020, but it was overshadowed by bigger news stories at the time. Fortunately, the fast food giant is bringing the burger back for those who missed it during its initial release.
McDonald's has not disclosed how long the four-patty Big Mac will be available, but it could potentially become a permanent menu item. As dining costs rise and more affordable restaurants become out of reach for many, the brand sees an opportunity to provide customers with more filling meals at better value.
In December 2023, McDonald's CEO Chris Kempczinski told CNN, 'In the U.S., in a number of markets, around the world, having a larger burger is an opportunity.' The Double Big Mac may be the company's way of satisfying consumer demand without needing to create a completely new burger from scratch.
