According to KAKE, McDonald’s is offering the Egg McMuffin for just $.63 to celebrate the sandwich’s 50th anniversary on Thursday, November 18, 2021.
The Egg McMuffin, a breakfast twist on eggs Benedict featuring cheese instead of hollandaise sauce, first appeared at a McDonald’s in Santa Barbara, California, in 1971. Created by franchise owner Herb Peterson, the McMuffin was designed to help McDonald’s break into the breakfast scene. By 1975, it had become a nationwide favorite.
Over the years, the McMuffin has evolved. McDonald’s now serves sausage McMuffins alongside the traditional Canadian bacon version, and the price has risen above a dollar. Customers have also contributed creative takes on the sandwich. To mark the McMuffin’s anniversary, McDonald’s is highlighting popular "fan hacks" from its secret menu, such as an Egg McMuffin with bacon and tomato, a syrup-and-chicken-patty McMuffin, and a hashbrown-replaced-English-muffin version.
