You don’t need an invite to Sandringham House to enjoy a royal feast this Christmas. According to Town & Country, the royal family has released their traditional figgy pudding recipe, making it possible for anyone to prepare a regal holiday treat at home.
On November 29, the royal family’s official Instagram account posted the recipe, coinciding with Stir-up Sunday, which is traditionally the Sunday before Advent. On this day, British home cooks mix the ingredients for their Christmas pudding.
The post shares, "This year, the chefs in the Royal kitchens have unveiled their recipe for a classic Christmas pudding. We hope some of you enjoy making it in your own kitchens."
The ingredients for the recipe include raisins, currants, sultanas, citrus peel, suet, breadcrumbs, flour, and a blend of spices. After combining the dry ingredients, add eggs and a splash of alcohol, then transfer the mixture into a bowl to steam. This pudding can be made in advance and reheated on Christmas Day. The full recipe, along with a video demonstrating each step, can be found in the Instagram post below.
Figgy pudding, also known as plum pudding, doesn’t necessarily contain figs or plums. This traditional British dessert can be crafted with almost any type of dried fruit, and unlike its American counterpart, it has a more cake-like texture rather than being custard-based.
The royal kitchen has shared its culinary secrets before. Earlier this year, former royal chef Darren McGrady revealed his recipe for the Queen’s beloved chocolate biscuit cake.
