If you’ve been delaying your long-awaited Yosemite adventure—or visiting any of the other 62 U.S. National Parks—it’s time to start planning. The upcoming iOS 18 update, launching this fall, will bring new features designed with nature enthusiasts in mind.
While Apple’s iOS 17 update allowed offline saving of some portions of Apple Maps, the new iOS 18 update takes it a step further. According to Travel + Leisure, hikers will now be able to save national park trails for offline access, even when there’s no cellular signal (which, if you’re an avid explorer, you know happens often!).
To add even more convenience, the update will introduce a “Places Library” where users can note their favorite locations, such as landmarks, eateries, and other memorable spots. These locations can be organized into custom walking routes that are easy to revisit with a simple tap.
Other Noteworthy Additions in iOS 18
While this update is bound to excite those always on the move, iOS 18 also introduces a range of other notable features, including:
- Enhanced Apple Pay capabilities, such as integrating reward systems and offering payment installment options.
- “Tap to Cash” feature, allowing two Apple users to transfer money by simply bringing their phones close together.
- A complete overhaul of Fitness+ with the introduction of new sections like “For You,” “Explore,” and “Favorites.”
Whether you’re an avid hiker, a fitness enthusiast, or someone who’s always leaving their wallet behind, this update is packed with features that are sure to excite.
