1. Leek Leaves
There are numerous ways to treat a cough with leek leaves. Here is the most effective remedy for treating a child's cough. Leek leaves, male papaya flowers, and lime seeds. To make this remedy, take 15g of leek leaves, 15g of male papaya flowers, and 20g of lime seeds. Wash them thoroughly, place them in a bowl, and crush them. Add rock sugar and a little water, then steam the mixture.
This method is highly effective—once the mixture of leek leaves, papaya flowers, and lime seeds is cooked, let it cool down before giving it to the child. The remedy should be taken three times a day. After 3 to 4 days, the child will be free from the cough. A note for parents: by the third dose, the effectiveness might not be as strong as in the earlier treatments.

2. Pickled Kumquat in Honey
When using this remedy for children, parents should ensure that the child has something in their stomach before giving them kumquat juice, especially for younger children. Kumquat is a warm fruit known for its ability to help break up phlegm and treat coughs with mucus. To prepare, take about 2-3 green kumquats, wash them thoroughly, cut them into small pieces, and leave the skin and seeds intact.
Mix with 3-4 tablespoons of rock sugar or pure honey, then steam until the kumquats are soft, around 25 minutes. Strain the liquid, let it cool, and give it to your child in one day, offering about 2 - 3 tablespoons at a time. This method is particularly effective for children with a wheezy, phlegm-filled cough.

5. Lemon
Lemon water can help clear mucus and soothe the throat. It's important not to give lemon directly to children as it can damage their tooth enamel.
To prepare, take 4 lemons, cut them into small pieces, and add one tablespoon of sliced ginger into a small pot. Pour in a little hot water and let it steep for about 10 minutes. Afterward, strain the mixture, dilute the liquid with some warm water, and add a little pure honey before giving it to the child multiple times throughout the day.
Lemon is rich in vitamin C, which boosts the immune system to help fight colds and flu. Its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties help reduce symptoms such as sore throat, runny nose, and cough.

6. Vietnamese Fish Mint
Vietnamese Fish Mint has a sour taste and a cooling property, affecting both the liver and lung meridians. It acts as a natural antibiotic to effectively treat coughs in children.
Simply take a handful of Vietnamese Fish Mint and a bowl of thick rice water. Clean each leaf of fish mint and grind it into a paste in a mortar. Then, mix the prepared rice water with the mashed fish mint and simmer for about 20 minutes before straining and giving it to your child.
Let your child drink it 2-3 times a day. It is recommended to serve this after meals, about one hour later. This method is ideal for children with a sore throat and minimal mucus.

7. Licorice Root
Licorice root contains antibacterial properties, soothing the throat with a sweet aroma and flavor. It's important to note that it should not be used for infants, as it can easily lead to vomiting, diarrhea, or even hemorrhagic fever in young children.
To use, you can roast licorice root and grind it into powder. For each dose, dissolve 4 grams in warm water and drink. Take it 3-4 times a day to achieve the desired therapeutic effect.

8. White Radish

Give 5ml (equivalent to 1 tablespoon) to your child each time. Use regularly every two days to help clear the mucus. This will reduce coughing and help heal any damage in the respiratory system quickly.

9. Lá húng quế
Thành phần caffeic acid trong húng quế được cho là có tác dụng cải thiện hệ miễn dịch, đồng thời ức chế sự phát triển của virus, vi khuẩn gây bệnh đường hô hấp ở trẻ. Đây chính là lý do vì sao dân gian thường sử dụng húng quế làm thuốc trị ho, viêm phế quản, viêm họng, cảm cúm.
Trước tiên bạn cần có 1 bó húng quế, 2 quả khế chua và 50g đường phèn ( hoặc 10 ml mật ong ). Ép khế lấy nước. Húng quế nhặt lấy phần ngọn và lá non.
Cho hai nguyên liệu trên vào chén ăn sành, thêm đường phèn vào hấp cách thủy cho đến khi đường tan chảy hoàn toàn và cô đặc lại. Để nguội, bảo quản trong ngăn mát tủ lạnh dùng dần.
Mỗi ngày 3 lần lấy 2 thìa cho bé uống. Trước khi dùng nên hâm nóng lại hoặc pha với 1 chút nước ấm. Tránh để bé uống khi còn lạnh sẽ khiến đường thở bị kích ứng nặng hơn.

11. Ginger
If your child starts coughing, take a small ginger root, wash it thoroughly, and roast it on the stove until it becomes hot and slightly charred. Let it cool, peel off the skin, cut it into small pieces, and then crush it to extract the juice. Discard the ginger pulp and mix the juice with a little honey. For younger children, add half a small cup of hot water to the ginger juice, let it sit for a while to allow the ginger to mix with the water, then discard the pulp and add some honey.
If the child is coughing frequently, give this remedy twice during the day and twice at night for the best results to help the child recover quickly.

12. Onion
If your child has a phlegmy cough, using onion with rock sugar can help reduce the phlegm in their throat. Slice half an onion and place it in a small bowl, then add 10-20g of crushed rock sugar. Mix the onion with the sugar and steam it carefully. Be sure no water gets into the bowl, as it will reduce the effectiveness of the onion and sugar mixture.
Let the child drink the mixture in two doses throughout the day. Give them an appropriate amount, and if there is any leftover, store it carefully to heat up for the next dose.
