To make it darker, press harder.
To make it longer, sharpen it.
If it’s too hard, it breaks.
If it's too soft, it's not useful.
What object am I describing? This object is incredibly familiar to all of us: the pencil. My mother has bought me many colorful pencils, but my favorite is the mechanical pencil.
The mechanical pencil is small, about the size of a finger segment. It’s roughly 15 cm long. The pencil is encased in a blue plastic cover. At the top, there’s a round red bead resembling a pearl. Inside the bead, there’s a tiny eraser. When I need to erase something, I simply turn the pencil around to use the eraser. The pearl bead has another special function; it serves as the gateway for the lead to come out. All I need to do is press gently on the bead, and the lead will immediately appear, ready to write. The pencil’s body is cylindrical, and the word 'Deli' is elegantly engraved on the middle part, while the grip area has circular patterns like springs to help me hold it tightly. Every time I need to write, the mechanical pencil provides me with its indispensable tool: the pencil lead. Unlike traditional pencils, which need to be sharpened, my mechanical pencil only requires a simple push to get a sharp, clear line. This convenience is exactly why I prefer the mechanical pencil.
Every day, my mechanical pencil obediently stays in my pencil case, accompanying me to school. It helps me write and also assists me in creating beautiful drawings. I love my mechanical pencil so much!

Inside my pencil case, I have many school supplies like a ruler, a fountain pen, an eraser, a calculator, and so on. Among them, I must mention my wooden pencil, a very familiar and essential companion to me.
This pencil was a birthday gift from my father when I turned six. The pencil is about 20 cm long, roughly the length of an adult's hand, slim and coated with a glossy finish, similar to the slick hair of an artist. When I first opened the gift box from my father, I nearly shouted with joy! It was the 4B pencil I had dreamed of for so long. On the silver-colored paint, there was a golden shimmering English inscription. Near the tip of the pencil, the number '4B' was precisely engraved. This pencil has the perfect hardness and gives dark, bold strokes, making it a true delight for someone like me who loves to draw!
The pencil is hexagonal in shape, with a solid graphite core inside. When sharpening it, I have to be gentle to avoid breaking the lead. The sound of the graphite scraping against the sharpener is a delightful 'vo...vo.' The tip of the pencil is sharp and needle-like, and when I press it lightly against a piece of white paper, delicate, bold lines appear immediately.
Since I was little, I've always been drawing on paper, and as I grew older, I began to enjoy sketching cute pictures, sometimes copying notebook covers or cartoon characters from TV. The pencil quickly became my trusted tool, especially when I would shade the hair of characters in my drawings. The smoothness of the pencil's strokes was perfect! Not only that, but I also used the pencil to draw lines between exercises, outline the edges of notebooks... Whenever I made a mistake, the eraser would correct it, like a diligent janitor cleaning up a page.
With my dream pencil, I will definitely take good care of it to prevent the graphite inside from breaking. I hope that with my new pencil, I will create many more beautiful artworks. I am truly grateful to my father!

8. A Composition Describing the Pencil Number 1
Inside my pencil case, I have a pencil.
It’s about 15 cm long and shaped like a small stick with six equal sides, forming a hexagonal shape. It’s small and charming, wearing a light yellow coat that’s smooth and shiny, with the scent of wood always wafting from it.
The back of the pencil has a small ivory-colored eraser attached with a thin metal band that has round, shiny ridges. I usually sharpen the pencil with a small knife or a sharpener, forming a pointed tip. The pencil’s tip is sharp and glossy, ready to write.
The little student can use the pencil to draw, sketch, erase, practice writing, and create dark, soft lines on the paper. Every now and then, I take the pencil out to sharpen it, admire it, and feel happy.
The pencil is a very important tool for students. I take good care of it and cherish it. It’s my close companion, always reminding me to be careful, meticulous, and thorough in my studies.

9. Essay about Pencil No. 2
At the beginning of the school year, my mother bought me all the necessary school supplies, including a pencil that I absolutely love. The pencil is about the length of an adult's hand, a bit thicker than a chopstick. It is covered with a bright yellow paint that shines like a golden flower. The silver lettering on the yellow surface stands out beautifully, though I don’t know what the words say. My mom told me, "This pencil is foreign-made, my dear." Perhaps that’s why I can’t read it completely. She explained that the markings refer to the pencil’s hardness and softness. The thing I like most about this pencil is the soft, pale pink eraser at the top, which helps me erase mistakes when writing.
The pencil has become my constant companion. It’s always with me whenever I write or study. This little pencil, just like the magical writing tool in fairy tales, has helped me draw portraits of my parents, my siblings, and soldiers who guard our beautiful country day and night. It also helps me solve the mysteries of algebra and draw pictures of my village, my house, and the garden...
My pencil is small, cute, and very useful. It has been my loyal friend since I started school.

10. Essay about Pencil No. 3
At the start of the new school year, my mom bought me all the necessary school supplies. Each item was brand new, beautiful, and carried a faint pleasant fragrance. Every tool had its own purpose, helping me in different situations. However, the tool I use the most is my mechanical pencil.
This mechanical pencil is about 15 cm long and made of sturdy metal, unlike the fragile wooden pencils that can easily break. Because of its durability, it has been my companion for over six months without a scratch.
The pencil’s body is about the size of a chopstick and is a lovely shade of purple, like the water lilies my mom grows in the fish tank outside our house. Adorning its elegant purple body are five-petaled white roses, intertwined with delicate leaves that run the length of the pencil. At the top, there is a finely crafted stone with sharp edges, adding an extra touch of beauty. It makes the pencil look like a princess, standing majestically in my pencil case.
The pencil has three parts: the top, where I press to extend the lead, the hollow body that holds a plastic tube to secure the lead, and the bottom, which has an empty core to allow the lead to move in and out smoothly.
The mechanism of the pencil is quite simple. Unlike wooden pencils that have fixed leads, the mechanical pencil uses very fine, needle-thin leads stored in a small cartridge. To use it, I simply press on the top, and the lead comes out, ready to write. A gentle press pushes the lead further out. The pencil’s marks on paper are not only sharp but also avoid the need to sharpen and prevent breakage of the lead, which often happens with wooden pencils.
Its small, lightweight body makes it easy to hold, requiring little effort to use. Whether I am writing, solving math problems, drawing borders, or doing art, this pencil is my go-to tool because of its practicality. If I make a mistake, I can simply erase it with an eraser, unlike using a pen. This makes me appreciate my pencil even more. Additionally, the pencil has a small metal clip on its side, making it easy to attach to my shirt pocket.
Using this pencil has taught me to be frugal and careful. Thanks to it, I’ve been able to complete countless assignments and create many fun drawings. I truly love my mechanical pencil and will take great care to preserve it.
