In an unusual twist, a fisherman named Lê Thận repeatedly pulled up a strange iron object in his nets. He kept throwing it back into the river, only to find the same object every time. Upon closer inspection, he realized it was a sword blade. Soon after, Lê Lợi, while being pursued by the enemy, sought refuge in the forest and discovered the sword hilt, inlaid with jewels, on a banyan tree. He realized the hilt matched the sword blade Lê Thận had found, confirming it was the magical sword.
With the sword in hand, the insurgent forces started winning every battle, eventually defeating the invaders, forcing the Minh army to retreat. A year after the victory, peace and prosperity returned to the country. Lê Lợi, while boating on Tả Vọng Lake, was approached by the Golden Turtle, sent by the Dragon King, to reclaim the magical sword. From that moment on, Tả Vọng Lake became known as Hoàn Kiếm Lake or Sword Lake. And so, the legend of Sword Lake was born.

One day, the king sailed on a dragon boat across Tả Vọng Lake when the Golden Turtle emerged from the water, demanding the return of the magical sword. The king complied, returning the sword to the Golden Turtle. From that moment on, Tả Vọng Lake was renamed Sword Lake or Hoàn Kiếm Lake.

After the sword and turtle sank beneath the water, people noticed a gleaming object beneath the green waters of the lake. From that time on, Tả Vọng Lake became known as Sword Lake or Hoàn Kiếm Lake.

With the enchanted sword in hand, the rebels grew stronger and started winning battle after battle. The name of the Lam Sơn forces spread far and wide. Their victories piled up, and their situation improved. Soon, the enemy was driven out, and the country was freed. A year after defeating the invaders, King Lê Lợi sailed a boat on Tả Vọng Lake. It was at this moment that the Dragon King sent the Golden Turtle to retrieve the magical sword. As the royal boat sailed across the lake, the Golden Turtle emerged and swam towards it, requesting the sword. Understanding the message, King Lê Lợi drew the sword and handed it over to the turtle. The Golden Turtle immediately took the sword and submerged into the water.
After the sword and turtle sank into the water, something shiny was seen at the bottom of the lake. From that moment on, Tả Vọng Lake was renamed Hoàn Kiếm Lake, or Sword Lake.
