The University of Hong Kong (HKU) is a public research university in Hong Kong, founded in 1911. Its origins trace back to the Hong Kong College of Medicine for Chinese, established in 1887. It is the oldest university in Hong Kong and the first to be established by the British Empire in East Asia.

2. Tsinghua University (THU)
Tsinghua University (THU) is a multidisciplinary and comprehensive university located in Beijing, China. It is considered the most prestigious university in China and Asia, consistently ranked among the top universities in the continent. Founded in 1911 as a preparatory school for Chinese students preparing to study in the United States, the university expanded its scope and began offering postgraduate programs in 1925.
Since 2015, Tsinghua has surpassed MIT to rank first in the world for engineering and computer science, according to US News. In the 2022 THE World University Rankings, Tsinghua stands at 16th globally, tied with Peking University. Tsinghua is recognized as the top university for science and technology in China. Its medical school, the Beijing Union Medical College of Tsinghua, is considered the best medical school in the country, while Peking University is more renowned for law and arts.
Admission to Tsinghua is highly competitive, with most students being among the top high school graduates in China. 3. Đại học Khoa học và công nghệ Hồng Kông (HKUST)
Đại học Khoa học và công nghệ Hồng Kông (HKUST) là một trường đại học nghiên cứu công lập ở Clear Water Bay , Hồng Kông . Được thành lập vào năm 1991 bởi Chính phủ Hồng Kông thuộc Anh, nó là tổ chức thứ ba của lãnh thổ được cấp trạng thái đại học. 4. Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU)
Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) is a prestigious public research university located in Shanghai, China. Founded in 1896, it is one of the oldest and most distinguished universities in China. SJTU is a member of the C9 League, a group of China's top universities. Over the 2016-2017 academic year, it achieved impressive rankings such as 62nd in the QS World University Rankings, 24th in the field of Engineering and Technology, and 33rd for employability after graduation. With its annual spring intake, SJTU attracts a significant number of international applicants. Although the entry requirements are not excessively difficult, the competitive admission process means that only students with exceptional academic records are accepted. Currently, SJTU offers both undergraduate and graduate programs across a wide variety of fields, with courses taught in Chinese, English, and French.
The university's original campus was located in Xujiahui in the Xuhui District of Shanghai, with many of its buildings influenced by American architectural styles. The main gate, built in 1935, was designed in traditional Chinese style. The entrance is surrounded by marble bridges resembling those at Tiananmen Square. However, recent road expansion efforts have led to the destruction of the river and most of the bridges. A replica of the famous gate has been built at the eastern part of the Minhang campus. The International Education School is located here, where many international students study each year. The campus also houses several research centers, including the State Key Laboratory of Ocean Engineering, although most centers moved to the new campus in 1987.
The Minhang campus, located in the suburban area of Shanghai, was established in 1987 and spans 2,822,903 square meters. The Zizhu Science Park is located to the south of the campus, where leading tech companies such as Intel, ST Microelectronics, Microsoft, and Sandisk have research and development centers. Today, the majority of SJTU's administration and students, both undergraduate and graduate, are based at this campus.

5. University of Malaya
University of Malaya is the oldest university in Malaysia, located in the southwestern part of Kuala Lumpur. It is regarded as the top university in the country. Many notable Malaysians are alumni of this institution. The university’s history dates back to 1905, with the founding of King Edward VII College of Medicine, and later, Raffles College in 1929. The University of Malaya was officially established on October 8, 1949, to provide higher education for Malaysia and Singapore.
The university quickly developed in its first decade and established two branches in 1959, one in Singapore, which later became the National University of Singapore, and another in Kuala Lumpur, which continued as the University of Malaya. As the oldest university in Malaysia, it has played a vital role in the nation's educational development. From 1962 onwards, it became a national university and was reorganized in Kuala Lumpur (University of Malaysia, 2012).
One integral part of the university is its library system, which was established in 1959 to provide comprehensive resources and services for research, teaching, and learning. 6. Fudan University
Fudan University is a prestigious institution based in Shanghai, People's Republic of China. Founded in 1905, just before the fall of the Qing Dynasty, it is one of China's earliest modern universities and remains one of the country's leading institutions to this day.
During the Second Sino-Japanese War in 1937, Fudan relocated to the interior of China and set up a temporary campus in Beibei, Chongqing. On December 25, 1941, the Republic of China government officially reestablished Fudan as a public university, renaming it National Fudan University. After World War II ended in 1946, Fudan returned to its original campus in Shanghai. In 1949, following the establishment of the People's Republic of China, the name was shortened to simply Fudan University. On April 27, 2000, Fudan merged with Shanghai Medical University, expanding its scope.
As of 2008, Fudan University comprises 17 schools with 69 departments, 73 undergraduate programs, 201 master's programs, and 134 doctoral programs. The university serves a student population of 45,000, including 1,760 international students. Fudan is also home to 77 research institutes, including 5 of China’s key laboratories. The faculty includes 2,400 full-time members, 1,350 of whom are professors and associate professors, with 30 being members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering. 7. Zhejiang University
Zhejiang University is a prestigious public research institution located in Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang Province. Founded in 1897, Zhejiang University is one of China’s oldest and most respected universities. It is organized into 37 colleges, schools, and institutes, offering over 140 undergraduate programs and more than 300 graduate programs.
As a member of the C9 League and other academic associations, Zhejiang University plays a key role in China's higher education system. 8. National University of Singapore (NUS)
The National University of Singapore (NUS), often referred to as NUS, is the oldest and largest university in Singapore in terms of student enrollment. It is considered one of the top universities in both Asia and the world, alongside Nanyang Technological University. In 2021, NUS ranked 11th in the global QS World University Rankings and was named the top university in Asia.
The NUS campus spans an area of 1.5 km² (150 hectares) and is located just minutes from downtown Singapore. The university has 42,598 students, including 30,473 undergraduates, 12,125 graduate students, and a faculty of 1,820 members. Originally part of the University of Malaya, NUS became an independent university in 1962 and was established as the National University of Singapore in 1980. 9. Nanyang Technological University (NTU)
Nanyang Technological University (NTU), one of the leading public universities in Singapore, is renowned for its global reputation and status in Southeast Asia. In 2020, NTU ranked 11th among the world's top universities and 4th in the field of engineering and information technology according to the QS World University Ranking.
The university spans an impressive 2 km² (200 hectares) campus and has a student body of 24,579 undergraduates, 7,767 postgraduates, and 3,846 faculty members. NTU was officially founded in 1991 when Nanyang Technological Institute (NTI) merged with the National Institute of Education. The alumni of the former Nanyang University were integrated into NTU by 1996. In 2004, the two universities separated completely and began running their own independent admissions systems. Peking University (PKU), located in Beijing, China, was founded in 1898, replacing the ancient Imperial College. It is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in China. By 1920, it became a center for progressive thought. Today, Peking University is consistently ranked as one of the top universities in China by various national and international rankings.
Aside from its academic excellence, PKU is also renowned for its traditional Chinese architectural beauty and its picturesque campus.
