It is said by the ancients:
"Words cost nothing, but choose them wisely to please others."
Although words are intangible, their impact on us is immense. The power of words exceeds what we may ever imagine. Through words, we can bring joy and happiness to others. Similarly, with words, we can also incite hatred and animosity.
Words are expressions made through spoken language, creating an idea or a complete text to fulfill a communicative purpose. In addition to their meaning, words also carry attitudes and implications. Thus, judging a word fully is not an easy task.
No one can deny the role and power of words in human communication. They are not only a medium for expressing thoughts and emotions but also an effective tool to achieve various goals in life.
First and foremost, words are an irreplaceable medium of communication for humans. The ability to express thoughts through words distinguishes humans from animals. Without words, communication would be slow and highly inconvenient if replaced by another form of communication.
Words possess the power to unite people. Kind words work like magic, making others feel understood and motivated, bringing joy. Words share feelings, help others understand us, and make us understand them better. They are more than just a tool for communication, exchanging information, or making social agreements; they also serve as a means for expressing emotions and understanding each other.
A well-chosen word can dissipate tension and heal emotional wounds. Words, though easy to utter, hold enormous power. During conflicts, a person who knows how to compromise and use gentle language to mediate will prevent violence. Big problems become small, and small problems may disappear. No one desires violence or harm to others. If we speak kindly, many regrettable situations may be avoided.
When others are sad, a timely word of encouragement can lift their spirits and alleviate their sorrow. They feel understood and supported. This, in turn, strengthens their resolve and trust in life. When others are upset, do not turn your back on them. You don’t need to do anything grand. Just patiently listen to them and offer wise advice. A sincere, well-timed word works like magic, reviving life in a spirit that had withered away.
The power of words is immeasurable. This is why the ancients used the right words at the right moment, in the right place, and with the right person to unite people for a common purpose, mission, or goal. With just the short piece "Hịch tướng sĩ" (The Appeal to the Troops), Trần Hưng Đạo stirred the hearts of the army, helping them recognize their mistakes, understand their cause, and unite under the leadership to fight and save the country. Likewise, Nguyễn Trãi used words to persuade countless leaders and generals from all directions, helping the Lam Sơn army grow stronger without losing a single soldier.
Sometimes, we are forced to lie. Although lying is wrong and against ethical standards, in certain circumstances, we may have to lie to protect the truth or to protect people. Therefore, one should not be rigid in believing that a good person will never speak falsely. If a lie can bring greater benefits than the truth, then it is a sincere word from the heart, a word of conscience, and it deserves respect.
There are people who use sweet words to conceal their true malicious nature. On the contrary, some people don’t know how to speak kindly or intentionally use harsh language to insult and hurt others. Such individuals deserve condemnation.
Words that lack kindness can inflict deep wounds that may never heal. A careless word can ignite conflict. A cruel word can ruin a life. A venomous word is like emotional violence, with consequences as severe as physical harm.
The words of those around us shape our character. Little by little, they slowly invade and erode our souls. Eventually, they dominate our entire being.
Every word we speak carries an invisible power. A well-timed word of encouragement can help someone in despair regain their spirit and overcome difficulties. Yet, some words can destroy a person already on the brink of hopelessness. We must speak kind, thoughtful, and sincere words so that we may find joy and bring joy to others. Life is short, so why cause unnecessary harm? Words cost nothing and are always available on our lips. Therefore, we must choose our words carefully to please others.

"In life, there are four things that once missed, cannot be repaired:
– When a stone ... has been thrown
– When words ... have been spoken
– When an opportunity ... has passed
– When time ... has gone by"
There have been many times when I questioned myself: "Have I ever spoken words that caused harm to others?" And yes, it seems like I have, and with each of those instances, I felt a heavy heart, realizing I had been thoughtless and selfish, even though I tried to justify myself by saying: "I did it right, there was nothing to think about." It was only after reading a story, where a simple word of encouragement helped someone who had failed and lost self-belief to regain strength on their life path, that I realized the extraordinary power of words. Could words really have such a profound impact on a person's mind?" The hundreds of questions swirled around in my head, and I began to research and gradually understood the power of something invisible—something I had never considered before.
Until now, I never really paid attention to such matters. But as I approach my final year of high school, I started reflecting on "words". They are not just an invisible form of communication, nor just casual exchanges or simple conversations. Sometimes, words are like a mental medicine, a sweet, gentle treat, but at other times, "they may not be a knife, but they still hurt" or "they may not be smoke, but they sting the eyes" or "they may not be clouds, but they can take us far away." Words—can provide us with motivation and confidence when we face life's difficulties. They can help us stand up when we stumble, give hope to someone suffering from a severe illness, and help them rise above their fear of sickness and pain. However, everything has its drawbacks. Words can also break us down, take away our self-belief, or even unintentionally take away someone's life, their hope, and their spirit. Sometimes, a word that I thought was just a casual remark or a joke, I never realized that those words could inadvertently touch someone's self-esteem, remind them of their pain, or even destroy their soul and hope. I’ve read articles and seen online that deaths have occurred simply because of words, or baseless accusations that unjustly condemn someone. I remember reading a story about two frogs: A group of frogs were hopping through a forest, and two frogs fell into a deep hole. When they saw how deep the hole was, the other frogs began shouting that they were going to die. The two frogs ignored the remarks and tried their best to jump out. The other frogs shouted, telling them not to bother, to accept the inevitable death. In the end, one frog listened to the others, gave up, and died from exhaustion and despair. The other frog, however, continued to leap with all its might. The frogs on the bank kept shouting for it to stop and accept death, but the frog only jumped harder. Miraculously, the frog finally escaped from the hole. The other frogs crowded around, asking, "Did you not hear us?"
They kept asking in surprise, until an older frog revealed the truth: The frog that escaped the hole was deaf, and it thought the others were encouraging it, and this belief gave it the strength to find life amidst death.
This simple story sends us a profound message: "A timely word of encouragement can give us strength in any adversity, while a harsh word can bring about death during difficult times. Therefore, we must be careful with the words we speak." And if one day you find yourself in a similar situation to the two frogs, and you're not as lucky as the victorious frog to be deaf, the best course of action is to "ignore the criticism, because those words will kill your efforts faster than exhaustion ever could."
Success, failure, hardships, challenges—that is life. Each person's life is like a big question mark, hidden within it are countless difficulties. You might appear perfect in the eyes of others, but can you honestly claim you have never faced failure or been in a desperate situation? I, too, have faced many failures in both my studies and life. So, if you were in such a situation, would you need someone to share or care for you? Surely, yes, because no matter how strong one is, there are times of weakness. During those moments, for me, a sympathetic look, a warm hug, and especially a sincere word of encouragement can help me push away the sadness and pressure. But it seems that in today’s modern society, where information connections are growing rapidly, where technology and smart apps are becoming more dominant, the connection between individuals is slowly breaking down. Caring and sharing are fading, replaced by indifference and selfishness—these can erode our humanity and destroy society. The current technology-driven life has changed people too much, and in the hearts of many, the simple words of 'thank you' and 'sorry' are fading. Have you ever asked yourself, "How many times have I said these words? Are they heartfelt or not?" This is an issue that the youth of today should seriously reflect upon. I once discussed this with older peers and received answers indicating they couldn’t express gratitude or apologize. Why? Could it be because of excessive pride or an uncomfortable feeling when speaking those words? Yes, it may feel awkward, but do they not feel ashamed of themselves? Why is it that educated individuals can’t say "thank you" or "sorry"? What have we learned in ethics and civics if not to avoid wasting time, effort, and money?
Words of thanks and apologies are important lessons in communication—lessons on courtesy that we should all know, yet they seem to be forgotten by today’s youth. As someone with a lot of self-respect, there are times when I have to set aside my pride and offer an apology for my wrong actions or express my gratitude when someone helps me. The words "thank you" and "sorry" are becoming strange and unfamiliar in our society today. We live in the 21st century—an era of civilization and modernity—but our moral foundation is slowly eroding. Words of thanks and apologies are becoming rarer. It seems that people either don’t know or intentionally forget these beautiful aspects of culture. We are born healthy, raised with the lullabies of our mothers, and sheltered by our fathers. Who would have thought that we could become better if we knew how to love, care for others, and speak the words of "thank you" and "sorry"—two short words, but ones that carry profound meaning when spoken at the right time? Let’s start today, begin living with compassion and love for others, and say "sorry" after our mistakes, "thank you" when we receive help—from anyone.
Through the story of the two frogs and the importance of saying sorry and thank you, the youth today serve as a mirror to reflect on ourselves. It has helped me understand the immense power of words, and I realize that I have grown—not just in terms of thinking, understanding, and writing but also in expressing my emotions, attitudes, and standing up against social issues.

In everyday communication, some of us often forget or overlook the power of words. We tend not to pay much attention to the emotional impact a word or phrase can have on relationships. When speaking, we tend to rush and speak without realizing the effect our words have. We don’t consider that a single word can connect, heal, and bring people closer in empathy or, conversely, drive them apart and hurt their hearts.
A single word can spark joy, excitement, surprise, agreement, positivity, expectation, and trust. Conversely, words can instill fear, anger, negativity, doubt, regret, and sadness. The choice of words in certain situations can change a relationship and your journey in life forever. We often forget that no matter how hard we try, once a word is spoken, it cannot be taken back. The result of our words, like an arrow shot swiftly, may not always hit the target, but the impact—good or bad—of our message is almost instantaneous.
Some jokes, seemingly harmless, may unexpectedly touch upon a deep, hidden pain for the listener. Then, there are mocking and sarcastic remarks intentionally aimed to hurt someone’s feelings, which can be as damaging as a weapon to the soul.
Ask yourself: how many listeners of such jokes or taunts have the maturity to understand themselves and others, and let go of the careless words without getting offended? On the other hand, how many people, too quick to anger, retaliate with words, leading to unfortunate reactions from both parties?
We all know the following saying:
“Words do not cost money.
Choose your words carefully to please one another.”
This is the power of words. Our actions, relationships, and emotional lives can be greatly impacted by how we speak.
Words and smiles are the easiest things to give and the quickest to make an impact. A gentle, sweet word can feel like a cool breeze on a hot day. Some people, even through a phone call or email, can make us feel like we can hear their laughter or see their smiles. Meanwhile, a harsh, bitter word can hurt someone’s heart and make them sad, not just for a day, but sometimes for many days, as not everyone is quick to forgive and forget. Life is fragile in this transient world. When we can still see and meet others, why not speak kind, sincere words? That way, when we part or are separated, we will have no regrets or remorse for not saying the words of love while we still had the chance.
It should also be noted that winning hearts with words is good, but those words must be sincere. Speak words of kindness, but never insincerely, merely to flatter or deceive. Flattering words, like sweet poison, can cause harm, but sooner or later, people will recognize their false nature. On the other hand, sometimes speaking the truth, though it may not be what the listener wants to hear, can be more effective. We know that “Honesty hurts,” but if we choose the right words and the right time, honesty can still be understood and appreciated by the listener. The listener should also remain calm and consider the words being spoken. When listening, we should try to understand the context, timing, and reason behind the words. Sometimes someone speaks harshly, but their heart is good and there’s no malice behind their words. In such cases, we need to understand the essence of what they are saying and filter out the parts that aren’t so pleasant.
Moreover, one crucial point is that “Words must match actions.” Don’t preach to others about love, kindness, and brotherhood, while your own actions contradict those teachings. This makes you a two-faced, hypocritical person, like Nhạc Bất Quần in Jin Yong’s martial arts novel. But under the sun, nothing can be hidden, and over time, people will see the true nature of your words and character.
I hope that all of us can cultivate a peaceful heart, speak pleasant words, and offer beautiful, genuine words to bring joy to others. In return, we will also experience the joy of giving and receiving kind words.

Words possess an unimaginable power. They can make us happy or sad, cause us pain and despair, or bring satisfaction. Often, a careless word can destroy a person. "Destroy" here does not necessarily mean physically, but rather "killing" the soul, trust, and hope. When a person loses themselves, when they no longer believe in life or have hope, aren’t they already dead in spirit?
I’ve witnessed many situations like this, and I have even been a part of some. There are certain words that will stay with me for the rest of my life. Every time I remember them, I feel stronger, more hopeful, and I realize that life still holds much worth. These words came from loved ones, acquaintances, and even strangers. Some words I want to believe, some I want to ignore, some I write down in a small notebook, and some I bury deep in my heart, never to be uncovered again.
Like everyone else, I’ve also said many things that people will remember. Some words I carefully chose, others slipped out when I was caught up in a negative emotion, leaving people hurt, disappointed, and most frightening of all, possibly misunderstanding me forever. This goes to show how a person’s worth can sometimes be determined and cemented within just two seconds.
I’m someone who pays great attention to words because I understand the hidden power they hold. A well-timed word of encouragement can make someone change, dare to dream, act, and succeed. A word of criticism or hostility can stain a pure soul, and the worst part is when we can’t forget it, and every time we think of it, our minds are filled with bitterness, insecurity, and guilt. A selfish, unthoughtful judgment can leave a wound, a scar that torments someone for years to come.
However, who truly understands that behind every word spoken, there may be something hidden? Sometimes, for some personal reason, we have to say things we don’t want to, just to preserve peace and tranquility for a family or a soul. These lies, ultimately, stem from selfishness. How can they know if the listener will find peace? How can they know whether these words will bring calm or turmoil in the future? No one knows that. People often steer their fate with words they claim to have thought over carefully. But when those words are selfish, what meaning does that consideration really have?
Therefore, we must be very careful with our words because we hold a sharp weapon that can cause both mental and physical harm. We should turn our words into seeds, planting sweet sounds in the hearts of listeners to make the world kinder, more compassionate, and more forgiving. And if possible, let’s speak the truth! For honesty is always valued, showing maturity and responsibility towards our own conscience.

“A sincere word, spoken at the right time, is like a magic spell that can resurrect life in a soul that has withered.” This quote clearly explains the significance of words in life. So why do words hold such a powerful influence over people?
Words are a form of expression through language, designed to convey an idea or create a complete message for a specific purpose of communication. Beyond their literal meaning, words also reflect the speaker's attitude and intentions. Therefore, it is not always easy to fully understand a statement or the intended message, especially when it carries deeper implications.
First and foremost, words are a fundamental and instinctive means of communication unique to humans, unlike any other animal species. They allow individuals to express their thoughts and understanding, enabling others to grasp the message being conveyed. We interact with each other daily through words, and these words have become the most effective and common tool for humans to understand one another's thoughts. Without words, communication would become slow and extremely difficult, as we would need to rely on other, far less efficient means of interaction.
Words have the power to profoundly impact others or ourselves. They can be as sweet as candy, as beautiful as a rose with its sharp thorns, or as dangerous as a razor that cuts deep. Words can elevate someone to the pinnacle of glory and happiness, giving them strength, belief, and hope, transforming someone in despair into a person with resolve. On the other hand, words can drive someone from despair to utter collapse, causing deep emotional wounds or even leading to death. Sometimes we speak without thinking, but at other times, we become malicious, intentionally causing pain with our words without considering the devastating consequences. We are often hurt by the words of others and find it easier to smile at flattering remarks. Thus, words are like a rose—its beauty is captivating with soft, velvety petals, yet it can quickly turn into a thorny weapon capable of piercing and causing pain at any moment. Because of this, words have the potential to influence a person significantly, and so, whenever we are about to speak, we must remember to “Think before you speak,” understanding the potential consequences of our words. Carelessness can lead to saying things that should never be said, words that should never be heard.
Because of their immense impact, we must always be cautious with our words. Sometimes we may be forced to lie, as when a doctor lies about a terminally ill cancer patient's prognosis, but the most important thing is that we remain true to ourselves and speak honestly. However, this does not mean that we speak impulsively or based on emotions. We must consider the situation, knowing when it is right to speak and when to avoid causing offense. Despite their simplicity, words are never simple—they can serve as a measure of character at any time, in any circumstance.
Every word we speak carries invisible power. Let us choose words that are pleasant, right, and sincere, so that we may experience joy and earn the respect of others. Life is short—why cause unnecessary harm to one another?

Our ancestors once said, "A word is worth its weight in gold." This comparison highlights the immense value that words hold in life, suggesting that every word, though intangible, holds the value of gold—one of the most precious metals in the world.
Words are a means of communication through language, enabling humans to express thoughts, ideas, emotions, and feelings, thereby bringing people closer together. What differentiates humans from animals is our ability to speak. Words are a precious treasure, an asset that encapsulates the intellect and beauty of humankind. First and foremost, language marks a significant evolutionary leap for humanity, ushering in a new era in which people can directly communicate and express their desires without needing to write them down. This saves time and allows us to convey more of what we wish to express. Words are incredibly important—they can lead to success or failure. Successful figures like former U.S. President Barack Obama, Alibaba's CEO Jack Ma, and President Ho Chi Minh are known for their skillful use of words, speaking precisely, intelligently, and diplomatically. As a result, their words resonate deeply with others, leaving a lasting impression. In fields like economics or diplomacy, success or failure often hinges on how words are used. Additionally, words help us build relationships, as no individual exists in isolation; everyone is part of a close-knit community. Moreover, words reflect a person's cultural identity. If you speak crudely or disrespectfully, others may not hold you in high regard. On the other hand, speaking with kindness, grace, and politeness will leave a positive impression. As our ancestors taught:
"A poor land grows a withered tree,
Rude people speak coarse words,
A fertile land grows lush plants,
Polite people speak with gentleness."
So how can we fully realize the value of words? The wisdom of the people tells us, "Think before you speak," meaning every word we utter should have purpose, be intentional, and expressed with respect and sensitivity. Before speaking, we should carefully consider our words. The most thoughtless remarks often come when we are filled with negative emotions such as anger, jealousy, or frustration—during these times, it is rare for people to control their impulses. Since "Words are free," we must "choose our words carefully to please others." Using words appropriately and effectively will foster better communication and leave a positive impression. Mastering the art of speaking is a vital life skill, but it is not something that can be acquired overnight; it is a process of practice, learning, and self-improvement. Today, as our country embraces global integration, people should improve their foreign language skills while also preserving and enhancing the beauty of the Vietnamese language.
As young people, we should begin cultivating the habit of using beautiful and thoughtful words right now, as our ancestors advised: "Learn to eat, speak, wrap, and open." The value of words in life is truly immense.

Throughout history, many individuals have achieved great things through their words alone, while others have brought calamity upon themselves due to their speech. It is clear that words, though invisible, have the power to shape the world, turning everything upside down. If one understands the immense power of words, they will strive to live according to principles, nurturing themselves to ensure a peaceful and harmonious life.
Words are the expression of language through speech. They are the most significant form of communication for humans. Spoken language, with its unique characteristics, is highly adaptable, designed to suit different circumstances and audiences to achieve effective and concise communication.
With the strong support of intonation and attitude in communication, words hold great power in exchanging information while also revealing the speaker's thoughts and feelings. Words carry immense power in every context and serve the speaker’s purpose. A timely word of encouragement can help someone in despair regain their strength and overcome difficulties. On the other hand, careless or unkind words can destroy a person in their darkest hour. Although words are intangible, their impact on people is profound.
For this reason, people have always been cautious when speaking. Our ancestors wisely said:
“Words cost nothing to speak,
Choose your words to please others.”
Beyond merely exchanging information, words also serve as a means of connecting human emotions. Thanks to beautiful words, relationships grow stronger, more friendly, and enduring. It is through words that people understand each other, empathize, and foster greater love and compassion in society.
Humans have learned to harness the boundless power of words to succeed in both work and life. Utilizing the power of words is an intelligent choice because words are always available to everyone. No lengthy preparation or external resources are required. The speaker can adapt to any situation, making their words more effective and suitable for their communicative goals.
Throughout our nation's history, great heroes have been renowned for their extraordinary speaking abilities. General Trần Quốc Tuấn's famous proclamation, "Hịch tướng sĩ," stirred his soldiers’ spirits and revived their determination. His heartfelt, sincere words penetrated the human soul, making everyone regret their past mistakes and neglect toward the country's fate. Nguyễn Trãi, with his letters, was able to persuade enemies to surrender, convert rebels to his side, and rally the people in support. His letters, compiled in the "Quân trung từ mệnh" collection, are considered more powerful than an army of a hundred thousand soldiers. Truly remarkable.
On the global stage, many figures have achieved their goals purely through the power of their words. Hitler, with his speeches, gained the trust of Germany’s youth, convincing them to believe in his mission to change the world, enthusiastically fight in wars, and serve the fascist agenda. Hitler’s talent lay in his ability to deceive an entire nation and pursue his ambition of global domination. Meanwhile, Lenin's powerful and persuasive speeches won the hearts of the Russian working class, convincing them of a bright future under the leadership of the Communist Party and their path toward liberation and building a socialist nation.
And there are countless other stories of great leaders who achieved remarkable success by unleashing the extraordinary power of their words. However, whether words have power depends entirely on the speaker's intent and the strength of their character. The purpose behind the words must be noble, serving the common good, and the speaker must be credible, intelligent, and trusted by the people for this miracle to unfold.
Words, though invisible, can be as sharp as a knife and more poisonous than a snake. Their benefits are immense, but their harms can be devastating and unpredictable. Therefore, we must be cautious with what we say. Do not destroy the spirit of someone who is already in a difficult situation with negative words. Instead, take the time to encourage and uplift them.
Success is not solely determined by ambition. First, it’s about seizing opportunities, then speaking words that resonate with others. Our lives and those around us are shaped by our attitudes and what we say. So, remember to think carefully before speaking to avoid regrets.
To harness the power of words, it is essential to have a clear understanding of their impact, both positive and negative. Knowing how to use words effectively can bring about great results, while knowing their dangers helps prevent harm to others and ourselves.
Words should be used appropriately, at the right time, and with the right audience. Be flexible in your speech to achieve your highest goals, but never use words to deceive, manipulate, or mislead others. Stand firm in your beliefs while engaging in conversation.
Always strive to improve your communication skills. When you speak, keep your promises. Avoid making excuses when you’re wrong. Honesty in speech builds trust, affection, and support from others, which ultimately leads to success.
Recognize and actively oppose those who use words for personal gain or to harm others. Lead a healthy, progressive life and promote proper communication within the community.
Words can make a person appear either more beautiful or more contemptible in the eyes of others. It all depends on what you say and how you speak to those around you.
In life, many people exploit the power of words to deceive, gain personal advantage, or harm others. Some people speak carelessly, allowing others to take advantage and leading themselves into danger or misfortune, causing irreparable damage. Such people deserve criticism.
A sword can harm the body, but words can damage the soul. A careless remark can spark a conflict. A harsh word can ruin a life. A well-timed word can ease tension. But a loving word can heal and bless. Always be mindful of your responsibility when speaking and choose your words carefully to strengthen human bonds in life.

Every day, people communicate with one another through speech. Thus, words play a vital role in establishing positive relationships and shaping the communication culture of a nation. Our ancestors understood this early on, as evidenced by the saying: "Words are worth their weight in gold," and also the phrase, "Words cost nothing – Choose words that please others." These sayings remind us of the value of words and advise us on how to use them meaningfully to create harmonious interactions.
Words indeed hold immense significance in life. The saying, "Words are worth their weight in gold" is not meant to suggest that words are literally wrapped in gold, but rather that speech, though intangible, can carry more precious value than material wealth. When spoken at the right time and place, words can have tremendous meaning. A well-reasoned, compassionate piece of advice can help someone who has strayed from their path return to the right course and bring light into their life. A word of comfort for someone facing hardship can provide them with the strength to rise again, knowing they are cared for and loved. Isn't that worth more than gold and silver? Words also serve to bond people together, reflecting beautiful souls. There are people who form friendships simply because of the power of words. Some words become immortal, etched in history for their profound meanings, influencing society for generations. For example, words spoken by leaders like Hồ Chí Minh or Lenin. Just one meaningful sentence can rescue millions of people from crises. From this, we see the immense value of words.
Indeed, words are that significant, yet they don't cost money to speak. Words originate from within each person and affect not only the speaker but also those around them. The key is how to speak in a way that makes others feel satisfied and at ease, a trait of those skilled in communication. Unfortunately, many people fail to use beautiful, meaningful words when interacting and instead end up causing frustration or discomfort. Many conversations turn into arguments, even physical fights, because of this. Thus, how we speak every day reflects our cultural intelligence. Our ancestors wisely advised, "Choose your words to please others." This does not mean saying things that flatter or distort the truth simply to please others, but rather speaking with genuine intention and thoughtfulness, using words that contribute positively to the conversation and foster emotional connections. Only sincere words, combined with effective communication techniques, can lead to successful interactions.
Speech is within everyone's control, and to speak in a way that pleases others, we must "think carefully before speaking," as our elders taught. Think thoroughly before speaking because once words are spoken, they cannot be undone. If we speak impulsively, we might harm others or ourselves. We must practice speaking by learning new vocabulary, adopting good speech habits from others, and always ensuring our words carry value. This means that when you speak, others will listen attentively and regard your words with respect. To achieve this, you must build trust with others. If you speak empty, shallow words all the time, people will begin to disregard what you say. Another crucial aspect is that when speaking, you must do so with confidence, empathy, and a spirit of sharing. Only then will you earn the affection of others and be respected.
Therefore, as our ancestors wisely said, "Words are worth their weight in gold" and "Words cost nothing – Choose words that please others." These two sayings are not contradictory; rather, they complement each other. They reflect the communication wisdom passed down through generations. We must learn from them to ensure that our words are valuable and appreciated by those around us.

In this world, there exists a power comparable to that of advanced machinery, a modern bomb, or a giant magnet – that power is speech. As people grow, they pass through a stage of simply speaking without thought to a point where they realize the immense power of words. Words can be as sweet as candy or as sharp as a thorn, but they can also be like a razor, capable of inflicting pain...
Words can elevate a person to the heights of glory and joy, granting them strength, belief, and happiness. In moments of despair, words can become a source of strength, helping someone regain composure. They can assist a child in growing, or offer warmth and comfort to a patient, relieving their fears and pain. On the other hand, words can drag a person from hope to complete destruction, causing severe harm, or even leading to death. Sometimes we speak carelessly, but at times, we speak out of malice, intending to hurt others, without considering the far-reaching consequences of our words.
Through news reports, we see how a single phrase or an unfounded accusation can result in tragedy. Young people, especially those in their adolescent years, who undergo significant emotional and psychological changes, or those who face public judgment – now known as "online trolling" – can find themselves devastated by careless words. Are we always aware of the full context? Do we truly understand the situation? Often, no! Sometimes we speak simply to satisfy our need to express ourselves, without considering the feelings of others. Only when we place ourselves in the shoes of those affected can we understand the immense suffering they experience from harmful words.
Think carefully before speaking. Take your time, and speak with caution. It’s better to pause than rush into a situation that could be damaging. Let go of irrational anger, as it often leads to miscommunication. Words are not knives, but they can still cause significant harm. They are not magic, but they can lift others from despair and bring joy into their lives.

10. Reference Paper 3
In the rush of life, people often lack the time to reflect on the words they speak to others. "Sincere words, spoken at the right moment, are like magic, reviving a soul that has withered away." This quote clearly explains the power of words in life. So, why do words have such a profound impact on people?
We can understand that speech is simply the expression of ideas or thoughts using language, intended to communicate a message or complete a written piece. Beyond its literal meaning, speech also conveys the speaker's attitude and intentions. Therefore, it is not always easy to fully understand a statement, and discerning the true purpose behind someone's words can sometimes be quite challenging, especially when the words are laden with hidden meanings.
To avoid causing harm with our words, we must learn to choose our words carefully and appropriately. Some words are deliberately chosen, while others are blurted out in moments of negative emotion, leaving people feeling hurt, disappointed, or even misunderstood. This shows how a person’s reputation can sometimes be sealed within just two seconds. What may seem like harmless joking can unknowingly touch on a deep, hidden pain for the listener. Then there are the sharp, sarcastic remarks intended to hurt or provoke, which can serve as emotional weapons.
It is clear that both words and smiles are easy to give and have immediate effects. A soft, kind word can be like a refreshing breeze on a hot day. Some people can make you feel the warmth of their smile, even through a phone call or an email. Meanwhile, harsh, bitter words can cause deep sorrow, not just for a day, but for many, as some people struggle to let go of the pain. Life is fragile, and in this transient world, why not speak kindly and honestly to each other? That way, when we part ways, we won’t be left regretting missed opportunities to express love and affection when it truly mattered.
The power of words is immense. If we truly grasp their importance, a well-timed word of encouragement can lift someone's spirits, alleviating their pain. It helps them feel understood and supported, boosting their strength and belief in life. When others are down, don’t turn your back on them. You don’t have to do something grand. Simply listen patiently and offer the right advice. Sincere, timely words can work wonders, breathing new life into a spirit that had almost withered.
However, in some situations, we may find ourselves compelled to lie. While we know lying is wrong, against moral standards, and goes against integrity, there are times when a lie is necessary to protect the truth or to safeguard others. Therefore, we should not be rigid in thinking that good people must always speak the truth. If a lie can bring about a greater good than the truth, then it can be seen as an act of sincerity, coming from the heart, and should be valued.
Before speaking, we must carefully consider the impact of our words to avoid causing harm to others. Every word we say carries an invisible power. Let us speak words that are pleasant, correct, and sincere, bringing happiness to ourselves and earning respect from others. Life is short; why cause unnecessary harm?
