1. Crib Bumper Pads
Although crib bumper pads are quite common and many new parents believe they protect babies from injuries and bruises, child safety organizations advise against using them due to the risk of suffocation. Similar to pillows or thick blankets, crib bumper pads can restrict a baby’s breathing if the pad is near their nose or mouth.
Additionally, thick bumpers can obstruct air circulation within the crib and cause overheating. The American Academy of Pediatrics is firm that these items are unnecessary.

2. Baby Monitors
Everyone is aware of the dangers posed by exposed and accessible electrical outlets. However, attention should also be given to all devices with cords. It is important not to place baby monitors inside or outside the crib. A child could accidentally become entangled in the cords. Additionally, babies love to chew on things.
For this reason, it is best to purchase a cordless monitor or place the device somewhere out of the baby’s reach to avoid contact with the cords.

3. Bed Linens
Blankets are added to the list of restricted items for the same reasons as crib mattresses and pillows. They can cause a lack of airflow and may overheat a baby’s body. Remember, no additional items should be in the crib until the baby is 18 months old to reduce any risks and ensure safe sleep.
At the same time, swaddling infants under 2 months old is not prohibited and actually promotes better sleep for babies who have trouble settling. In other cases, if you're concerned whether your baby feels cold, remember that all types of sleep sacks are excellent alternatives to blankets.

4. Battery-Operated Toys
Batteries are a hazardous foreign object that can cause severe damage if swallowed. Within just two hours, they can burn through a child's esophagus, leading to surgery and other serious health complications. If a battery is inserted into the nose or ears, this can also result in unforeseen consequences.
Due to these risks, batteries should never be within reach of children. For battery-operated toys and devices, make sure the batteries are securely placed and out of sight so children cannot play with them.

5. Unsecured Furniture and Items in the Home
Furniture in a child’s room must be secured to prevent accidents. This includes not only large pieces of furniture like cabinets and wardrobes that a child may try to climb, but also floor mirrors and TVs, as well as other items that could easily be toppled over.
To minimize the risks, choose low furniture with wide, stable bases and use wall-mounted shelves. Additionally, avoid placing toys or other tempting objects on top of furniture that could encourage your child to climb.

6. Scented Candles and Air Fresheners
It’s no secret that scented candles and air fresheners contain chemicals. If the air circulation is insufficient, they can irritate the respiratory system, even in adults, particularly those who are prone to allergies and asthma. For this reason, Mytour advises against using fragranced products in nurseries or infant sleeping environments. Their lungs are still developing, and exposure to airborne irritants will provide no benefits.
If you absolutely need to get rid of unpleasant odors, at least remove the baby from the room and provide fresh air circulation.

8. The Pillow
Adults can directly experience the discomfort in their necks when sleeping on a flat surface without a pillow. Based on their own experiences, parents may decide that babies also need head support. However, experts suggest that infants should not sleep with a pillow until they are toddlers. Newborns should rest on a firm, flat surface, free from pillows, blankets, or any other soft bedding until they are at least 1 year old, and preferably closer to 18 months.
Several reasons explain this guideline, with the main concern being the risk of babies accidentally burying their faces into a soft surface while asleep. As they grow a little older, they may even use the pillow as leverage to climb out of the crib. Additionally, materials such as feathers or down may trigger allergic reactions.

9. Humidifier
A humidifier is an extremely useful device for children's rooms, as humid air positively impacts their respiratory health and skin. However, improper use of this device can lead to issues. One of the most common problems is excessive moisture and mold growth.
To prevent this, pediatricians recommend using a hygrometer alongside the humidifier. Alternatively, you can purchase a device with an integrated dehumidifier, which helps monitor the humidity level. The ideal humidity for babies is believed to be around 50%.

10. Magnets
Colorful magnetic letters and other magnetic toys can captivate a child’s attention, but they can be quite dangerous, especially if the magnets inside them are not securely fastened. Without supervision, children can easily swallow these small pieces. If ingested, they could attract each other with enough force to cause serious harm and pose a life-threatening risk to the digestive system.
To prevent this serious health risk to your child, never leave them alone with such toys. Always supervise your child while they play, and avoid purchasing large magnetic toy sets, as it may be hard to notice if any parts are missing.
