1. Ear Rubbing and Drumming Technique
The ear rubbing and drumming technique is used to treat symptoms like tinnitus, hearing loss, dizziness, headaches, and other vertigo-related issues. If you experience these symptoms, this method can help alleviate the condition.
How to perform it:
- Use your index and middle fingers.
- Place your middle finger in front of the ear and your index finger behind it.
- Gently rub up and down on the pressure points in front and behind the ear 20-30 times.
- Next, rub the surrounding area of the ear 20-30 times.
- Then, place both palms over the ears and press 5-10 times to create a drumming sound in the ears.
- Finally, with your index and middle fingers, firmly tap behind the ear 5-10 times to hear a popping sound.

2. Healthy Diet
Vertigo is a condition caused by damage to the nervous system, ears, eyes, or cardiovascular system. Those suffering from vertigo often experience headaches, stress from poor blood circulation to the brain, and an increased risk of stroke. Therefore, individuals with vertigo need to follow a proper diet to effectively manage the condition.
To support the treatment of vertigo, it is recommended to regularly include the following foods in your daily diet:
- Vitamin-rich foods are essential for people with vertigo, as they help strengthen the vestibular system.
- Vitamin B6 supports a healthy nervous system. Foods rich in Vitamin B6 include skinless chicken, fish, fruits such as oranges, apples, bananas, papayas, avocados, walnuts, almonds, as well as grains, potatoes, sweet potatoes, legumes, tomatoes, pumpkins, and spinach. Eating plenty of vegetables and fruits will provide extra vitamins and minerals, especially cruciferous vegetables that are high in B1, B6, and B12, which are beneficial for stabilizing the vestibular system.
- Vitamin C helps alleviate symptoms of headaches and dizziness caused by vertigo. Foods high in Vitamin C include citrus fruits (oranges, lemons, grapefruits), kiwis, pineapples, broccoli, strawberries, papayas, tomatoes, kale, red peppers, and guavas.
- Vitamin D helps counteract ear stiffness, a common symptom in vertigo sufferers. Therefore, it's crucial to ensure adequate Vitamin D intake. Foods rich in Vitamin D include fish, eggs, milk, cereals, mushrooms, and soy products (tofu, soy milk, etc.).
- Folic acid can reduce balance issues in the elderly by repairing defects in the vestibular system. Foods rich in folate include dark leafy greens such as broccoli, asparagus, okra, cauliflower, seeds like sunflower seeds, almonds, peanuts, and legumes such as lentils, black beans, and green beans.
- It is important to drink plenty of water daily to improve blood circulation to the brain.
- Reduce salt intake compared to a normal diet.
- Avoid sugary foods, fried foods, and stimulants such as alcohol and caffeine.

3. Balanced Lifestyle and Proper Rest
It's not just the elderly; office workers are also at a higher risk of developing vertigo due to long hours spent in air-conditioned rooms and the stress of working on computers. This can lead to stiffness in the neck, which over time causes spinal artery spasms, resulting in peripheral vertigo. This is a major factor contributing to the recurrence of the condition if not properly managed. Therefore, a proper lifestyle is essential for those suffering from vertigo to prevent serious complications.
For individuals with vertigo, it is important to follow these lifestyle tips:
- Exercise regularly every day.
- Avoid standing up or sitting down too quickly or repeatedly.
- When lying down to sleep, use a pillow that provides moderate elevation to improve blood circulation.
- Avoid long periods of intense work. For office workers, take a break every 1-2 hours to stand, walk around, or change your line of sight to reduce mental strain.
- If you feel dizzy, unsteady, or off-balance, sit or lie down for a while to regain stability.
- Avoid driving or engaging in activities that require balance, such as climbing high places.

4. Simple Exercises
Vertigo is common among office workers who spend long hours in air-conditioned rooms and frequently use computers. The typical symptoms of vertigo include dizziness, the sensation of the surroundings spinning, nausea, and vomiting.
Although vertigo is not life-threatening, it can significantly impact the physical and mental well-being of those affected. Over time, patients should proactively prevent further episodes by engaging in regular exercises and full-body movements like the following:
- Neck and head exercises: Tilt your head back, bend your head forward, and turn your head to the right and left. Rotate your head in circular motions to the right and left (about 10-15 times).
- Lie on your back on a bed, place one hand on your forehead and the other under your chin. Gently rotate your chin to the left and right, hearing a cracking sound indicates a good result.
- Interlace your fingers and place them at the back of your neck, pulling your chin toward your chest (repeat about 10 times).
- Massage your face, eyes, and hands: Rub your palms together to generate heat, then massage your face, around your eyes, and ears to stimulate the nerve points (repeat about 10 times).

5. Treating Vertigo with Artemisia Leaves
Artemisia leaves are not only a popular herb used to enhance the flavor of dishes but also serve as a powerful remedy for alleviating the symptoms of vertigo. Known for their ability to balance and improve blood circulation, these leaves help deliver more oxygen to the brain, easing dizziness, headaches, and other vertigo-related issues.
Ingredients: Fresh Artemisia leaves, eucalyptus leaves, and pomelo leaves.
Instructions:
- Use 1/3 of a handful of eucalyptus leaves, 1/3 of fresh pomelo leaves, and a bunch of Artemisia leaves.
- Wash all ingredients thoroughly to remove any dirt.
- Place the mixture in a pot, add water, and boil for about 20 minutes.
- Use the steam from the boiled mixture to inhale and relieve dizziness, nausea, and relax your body.

6. Using Mulberry Leaves
Mulberry leaves are well-known in traditional medicine for their ability to nourish the brain, calm the nerves, and improve blood circulation. As such, they can be used as a natural remedy for vertigo at home. In Vietnam, mulberry leaves are often used in everyday cooking. A flavorful soup made from spareribs and mulberry leaves not only tastes great but also helps improve vertigo symptoms safely and effectively.
Instructions:
- Prepare the following ingredients: thoroughly washed mulberry leaves to remove any pests and dirt, and spareribs cut into bite-sized pieces, boiled to remove impurities.
- Season the spareribs with salt, pepper, fish sauce, garlic, and green onions, and let it marinate for about 15 minutes.
- Place the spareribs into a pot and simmer, skimming off any foam as it boils. Keep the heat low until the spareribs become tender, then add the mulberry leaves.
- Let it boil for an additional 5-10 minutes before turning off the heat and serving.
This dish is not only delicious and nutritious but also beneficial for brain health, helping stabilize the vestibular system.

8. Soaking Your Feet in Warm Water
For a long time, vertigo has been a persistent concern for many, significantly affecting the quality of life for both the patient and those around them.
The recurrent episodes of vertigo force sufferers to endure intense headaches and dizziness, accompanied by discomfort, fatigue, and reduced work efficiency. Several factors contribute to this condition, with poor blood circulation being the main culprit. Soaking your feet in warm water can help improve blood flow, supplying adequate blood throughout the body and alleviating vertigo symptoms. Blood circulation issues are often a root cause of vertigo, and stimulating blood flow is an effective treatment that can bring tangible benefits to the patient.
Numerous studies have shown that regularly soaking your feet in herbal infusions or warm water can promote steady blood circulation and improve overall health, as blood is directed to the brain.
Patients can follow these steps:
- Prepare warm water at 40-45°C (104-113°F).
- Soak your feet 1-2 times a day.
- Soak for 20-30 minutes each time to help improve the condition.

9. Massage and Acupressure
The method of massage for treating vertigo has been used for centuries in traditional remedies. At the first sign of dizziness or vertigo, patients often resort to massaging the painful areas to alleviate the condition quickly. However, it is important to note that not all patients practice this method correctly, and improper application can sometimes worsen the symptoms.
Here are some massage techniques that can help alleviate vertigo:
- Scalp brushing: Use your fingers like a comb to brush your hair, both straight and sideways, while gently pulling at the hair roots.
- Head tapping: Using your fingertips, gently tap on your scalp in circular motions.
- Head knocking: Tap your head gently with your fingertips in opposite circular directions.
- Scalp squeezing: Place your thumb on one side of your head and your other fingers on the other side, squeezing gently from the bottom to the top in a rhythmic motion.
- Acupressure:
- Baihui point: Located at the top of the head, this point is identified by placing your thumbs inside your ears and extending your middle fingers straight to the crown of the head, where they meet.
- Shangtian point: This point is located above the forehead, along the hairline. To find it, place a finger along the nose and move upward, following the centerline until you reach a depression at the hairline.
- Fengchi point: Located in the hollow at the back of the neck on either side, place your hands around your head with your thumbs pointing downward. Slide your thumbs from the top to the bottom of the neck to locate this point.
- Fengfu point: Found at the base of the skull, in the depression where the trapezius muscle meets the skull.
- Temples: Located just behind the eyebrow, at the outer edge of the eye socket.
- Jiazhong point: Located just in front of the ear, identified by folding the ear forward to feel the raised area.

10. Clapping Exercises
Clapping exercises to treat vertigo help stimulate blood circulation throughout the body, effectively nourishing the internal organs and promoting the elimination of toxins. This method has been widely adopted and has shown promising results.
Here’s how to perform the exercise:
- First, choose a quiet location.
- Stand upright, with your feet shoulder-width apart, ensuring your toes are firmly pressed against the floor.
- Keep your mouth closed, with your tongue touching the roof of your mouth, and gaze forward.
- Slowly extend your arms in front of you, forming a 30-degree angle with your body. (Ensure your palms are parallel to the ground, and fingers are together.)
- Next, swing your arms backward, forming a 60-degree angle with your body. (Swing your hands upward with full force, while squeezing your anus and tightening your pelvic muscles, completing one full swing.)
- It is recommended to practice this method twice a day, preferably on an empty stomach.
- For better results, start with a few swings and gradually increase the repetitions, eventually improving speed to enhance the benefits.
