1. Description of the Mid-Autumn Festival Lantern: The Carp Lantern
In addition to the traditional star-shaped lanterns, the carp lantern is also a beloved symbol that evokes nostalgic memories of childhood during the Mid-Autumn Festival. Inspired by the legend of the carp transforming into a dragon after overcoming the Vu Mon waterfall, the lantern carries a wish for prosperity, harmony, and success for children in their studies. This image has become familiar to many generations of Vietnamese children. Today, we are proud to present the carp lantern, which adds diversity and richness to the current lantern collection.
The phrase 'The carp transforms into a dragon' represents the hope that students will succeed in their studies, and it also symbolizes good health and peaceful living. This lantern, simple yet meaningful, has quickly entered Vietnamese folklore. The carp lantern, also known as the golden carp lantern, embodies this idea. Its designs are often inspired by traditional Vietnamese art, including motifs from Dong Ho paintings.
The image of the carp overcoming the Vu Mon waterfall to become a dragon is a powerful symbol of perseverance. The famous saying goes:
'On the seventh day, the carp swears an oath'
'On the eighth day, the carp crosses the Vu Mon waterfall.'
To pass through the Vu Mon waterfall and transform into a dragon is a long and arduous journey, requiring the carp to possess perseverance, resilience, and determination in the face of hardship. This myth highlights the virtues of effort, hope, and eventual success.
Even today, there is a folk tale that is passed down through generations. In the past, there was a thriving village by a river. One day, a mystical carp appeared and terrorized the village by attacking the people. To protect themselves, the villagers made large carp-shaped lanterns and placed them outside their homes during the Mid-Autumn Festival. The carp, thinking these lanterns were its own kind, avoided attacking the villagers. Over time, this tradition spread across the country and became a beloved part of the Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations.
With this rich symbolism, we have created the giant carp lantern, which features a striking red color and a design that depicts a carp emerging from the Vu Mon waterfall and transforming into a dragon. The intricate details, such as the fish scales, whiskers, and elongated body, help to bring the design to life, while the motifs on the lantern add depth and beauty to this traditional representation.
The materials used to create the carp lantern are simple yet effective—steel, paper, and a touch of decorative fabric come together to create a lifelike image of a carp swimming gracefully under the full moon.
With that, our class presentation comes to a close. We wish all the honored guests, judges, and teachers good health, and hope that all students continue to excel in their studies. We also wish for a successful and joyous Mid-Autumn Festival. Thank you very much!

2. Description of the Mid-Autumn Festival Lantern: The Lotus Lantern
Respected organizers, judges, teachers, and fellow students!
Next, I would like to present the meaning behind the Lotus Lantern that our class has brought to this year's Mid-Autumn Festival celebration at the elementary school...
''What beauty can compare to the lotus in the pond?
With green leaves and white flowers, surrounded by yellow stamens,
Yellow stamens, white flowers, green leaves,
Close to the mud but never tainted by its stench.''
The lotus is a symbol of the strong vitality of the Vietnamese people. This flower has been an integral part of Vietnamese culture for centuries. Despite growing in stagnant and muddy waters, the lotus still blooms and emits a fragrant aroma. As its petals unfold, they represent the expansion of life and the soul, symbolizing the purity that rises above the mud and filth, untouched by the surrounding dirt, and instead radiates a sweet fragrance and beauty.
The lotus emerges from the dark mud, cleansing all impurities to nourish itself, pushing through the water to reach the surface, opening its leaves and blooming—this is a process of patience and striving for a noble life. Though the lotus grows in the mud, it rises above it to face the sun, remaining unsullied by the dirt. This mirrors how a person can live in this world, enduring life’s temptations, yet rise above them without being tainted or polluted. Due to its natural growth, the lotus flower has long been compared to the noble qualities of the Vietnamese people, who struggle to preserve their dignity and overcome challenges to protect their integrity. Thus, the pure beauty of the lotus was chosen as Vietnam's national flower during the national vote organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, where the pink lotus was ultimately selected as the symbol of Vietnam.
The lotus-shaped lantern created by our class is crafted from familiar materials. Though simple and modest, it embodies the inherent beauty of the lotus, especially the pink lotus. We hope that this lantern will add vibrant colors and deeper meaning to this year's Mid-Autumn Festival celebration.
With that, our lantern project presentation comes to a close. We wish the organizers, judges, and teachers good health; we wish all students a beautiful Mid-Autumn Festival, and we hope the festival will be a great success. Thank you and best regards!

8. Presentation on the Mid-Autumn Lantern: The Military Lantern
“Long ago, as the Mid-Autumn Festival approached, the King ordered the people to create unique lanterns, but none pleased him. One day, a poor farmer named Luc Duc, who lived with his mother and was known for his filial piety, dreamt of an elderly god with white hair. The god revealed himself as Tai Thuong Lao Quan, and, moved by Luc Duc's kindness, instructed him on how to craft a lantern for the King. Following the divine advice, Luc Duc and his mother used white bamboo and colored paper to create the lantern. By the time the lantern was completed, the 15th day of the 8th month arrived. Luc Duc and his mother proudly presented it to the King. The King was delighted by its unique appearance, vibrant colors, and ability to move. When the King asked about the meaning of the lantern, Luc Duc explained: "Your Majesty, the bamboo in the center symbolizes the axis of life, while the rotating pinwheel represents the six human emotions: love, hate, anger, sadness, happiness, and jealousy. The constant motion symbolizes the changing nature of humanity, rooted in our moral foundation. The six colorful faces of the lantern represent different human traits." The King, impressed, instructed that the lantern be displayed for the public. When lit, the pinwheel spun, displaying six vivid colors, portraying kings, officials, people, and horses. The figures, all made of paper, were illuminated, creating an illusion of movement. The King rewarded Luc Duc and his mother generously, granting them the title of Wan Ho Marquis. From then on, every Mid-Autumn Festival, the people would celebrate Luc Duc’s filial devotion by creating their own brightly colored "Military Lanterns."
The Military Lantern, also known as the Spinning Lantern, consists of two main parts. The outer part has six faces, each representing different human emotions: love, hate, jealousy, anger, happiness, and sadness. The faces are adorned with fine embroidered fabric with intricate patterns. The bamboo spokes are carefully crafted, and tiny figurines are attached to ensure the structure is sound. In the center is a bamboo column wrapped in gold and brightly colored paper, adorned with beautiful designs. Inside the lantern, a larger bamboo stick supports a pinwheel with several blades designed to catch the wind. Attached to the windmill are figurines such as soldiers, horses, and cannons, all placed on bamboo circles beneath the spinning blades. A red candle placed inside the lantern creates an updraft, causing the pinwheel to spin and move the figurines. The shadows of these moving figures appear on the faces of the lantern, giving the illusion of action. The Military Lantern creates an enchanting spectacle, almost as if the figures are alive, turning the lantern into a captivating representation of a battle. The entire lantern radiates shimmering, colorful light, symbolizing the festive spirit of the Mid-Autumn Festival and the cherished memories of childhood.
Beyond being a children's toy, the Military Lantern also serves as an educational tool for young historians. The rotating images on the lantern depict significant moments in the nation's history: a wedding, coconut picking, the artillery of the Dien Bien Phu campaign, and heroic figures like Nguyen Viet Xuan fighting against American forces in the struggle for national independence. Isn’t it fascinating, everyone?
Moreover, the Military Lantern is a symbol of our cultural heritage, a beautiful creation passed down through generations. We must work together to preserve this tradition. Finally, on behalf of myself, I wish the judges, distinguished guests, and everyone present good health and success. I hope this competition will be a resounding success.

9. Presentation on the Mid-Autumn Lantern: The Star Lantern (No. 1)
On the Mid-Autumn night, under the full moon's light,
I follow the bright stars to visit the Moon Goddess.
Tonight, as we gather under the moonlight, surrounded by the radiant glow of lanterns, we celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival with friends and children from all over the country. With our colorful lanterns, we wish to add even more vibrancy to our beloved school, making it shine with the bright colors of the full moon festival.
For this occasion, we bring our traditional star-shaped lantern. Made from simple bamboo and shiny paper, the star lantern is a cherished childhood treasure that we eagerly await every Mid-Autumn Festival. The joy is overwhelming when the candle inside is lit, leading us through the night, singing under the full moon.
We chose the star shape for our lantern because everyone knows that the star is a symbol of the national flag of Vietnam. It represents the unity of all ethnic groups, and it also reflects the collective spirit of our class. Together, we made this lantern as a sign of our shared effort and love.
The four points of the star are covered with red paper, and the center of the lantern is adorned in yellow, symbolizing our pride in being Vietnamese—“Red Vietnamese, Yellow-skinned.” This also honors the blood of the martyrs who sacrificed to regain independence and freedom for the nation, enabling us to live in peace today. Despite our joy, we still remember the wise words of President Ho Chi Minh, “Whether or not Vietnam can become glorious, whether or not the Vietnamese people can stand shoulder to shoulder with the great powers of the five continents, depends on the effort of children’s studies.” Therefore, on the front of our lantern, we have the words “Mid-Autumn Remembering Uncle Ho” along with his image, to honor the immense contributions of the beloved father of the nation. The pink lotus petals symbolize purity and innocence, always striving to reach the brightest place, just like the Vietnamese people. Though born in muddy waters, the lotus is not tainted but has the ability to change its surroundings, making any murky water clear.
The lotus has both fragrance and beauty, but its scent is subtle and evokes a noble spirit. The color of the lotus is modest yet charming, with its white petals tinged with pink and its yellow center. From the moment it blooms to its fading, no insects disturb it. Through all obstacles, the lotus continues to rise, blooming under the sun, spreading its fragrance and beauty into the world.
On the back of the lantern, we have decorated it with the emblem of the young pioneers and the slogan “Study Well” to represent our class's determination to grow up, learning and being diligent. Around the lantern, we have added sparkling strings and colorful petals, making it even more magnificent. For us, this Mid-Autumn Lantern will forever be a beautiful memory.
This concludes our presentation. We wish the esteemed guests, judges, and teachers good health, and hope that all students will continue to study diligently. We wish the festival a great success. Thank you!

10. Presentation about the Mid-Autumn Lantern: Star-shaped Lantern (No. 2)
Every time the Mid-Autumn Festival arrives, the streets are filled with the cheerful tune: "The star-shaped lantern with five bright colors. The handle is long and tall. I carry the lantern and sing loudly. The star lantern glows brightly during the full moon night! Tùng rinh rinh, tùng tùng tùng rinh rinh...". For a long time, the star-shaped lantern has been considered an essential item for children during the Mid-Autumn Festival. While modern toys have emerged, the star-shaped lantern still holds special significance for us kids. Today, we, the students of class XX, proudly present the star-shaped lantern we made ourselves to contribute to the beauty of tonight's full moon celebration.
To create this lantern that shines during tonight's celebration, we used materials from nature such as bamboo, and some synthetic materials like colored paper and glue. With the help of our teacher, we carefully designed and added lovely patterns to our lantern.
A five-pointed star lantern, much like the stars in the night sky, twinkles brightly. Inside the lantern is a tiny star representing the universe, while the outside features a full moon smiling down on the beautiful celebration.
Looking up at the sky, we see the bright moon and twinkling stars illuminating the vast sky. Here on earth, our star lantern is lit by the candle of our childhood, symbolizing all our hopes and dreams for the future.
This lantern is a small spark, a spark from our hearts, showing our respect for the traditions of our ancestors. It is a tiny light that brightens our lives, allowing us to joyfully wander the streets during the lantern festival. It also carries a hope that next year we will have another lively celebration just like this one.
Our lantern competition ends here. We wish the organizers, judges, and teachers good health. We hope all the students enjoy a beautiful Mid-Autumn Festival, and wish our competition much success. Thank you!
