10. The Cat Who Taught the Seagull to Fly
This world is filled with paradoxes and differences, but if we look beyond those differences towards love, life becomes much more beautiful. The Cat Who Taught the Seagull to Fly by Chilean author Luis Sepúlveda is a story for more than just children.
With his gentle yet witty style, Sepúlveda weaves an engaging narrative full of emotional peaks and valleys, captivating readers as they laugh, cry, hold their breath, and rejoice with each twist in the tale. The book follows the journey of the cat Zorba and his three promises: “I won’t eat the egg,” “I’ll protect the egg until the chick hatches,” and the seemingly impossible “teach it to fly.” Through these promises, the book delivers a valuable lesson on friendship and sends a powerful message: “It’s easy to accept and love someone like you, but loving someone who is different is much harder.”
