1. Use Pumpkin Stems
Many women face a recurring condition known as habitual miscarriage, which occurs due to poor hormonal balance, leading to repeated concerns and fear with each pregnancy. A remedy using pumpkin stems has proven to be very effective in supporting pregnancy, especially for those with a history of miscarriage. With this remedy, women can feel assured in protecting their unborn child.
Take pumpkin stems, about 5 cm long, roast them in a clay pot until golden brown, then grind into a fine powder. After the second month of pregnancy, consume 3-5g of this roasted powder mixed into the cooking rice water. Though simple, this remedy can help you safely pass through the early stages of pregnancy when miscarriage risks are higher.

2. Use Taro Leaves
In traditional medicine, taro leaves have a pungent flavor and cooling properties that help relieve the stress and discomfort many expectant mothers feel. They are also effective in addressing conditions like restless pregnancies. If you experience signs of miscarriage or spotting, aside from avoiding heavy movements and consulting a doctor, you should try a remedy with taro leaves to help support a healthy pregnancy.
Taro leaves are an affordable and widely available option, providing surprising results, especially for pregnant women who feel anxious or whose pregnancies are not stable. Take a handful of dried taro leaves, cut them into small pieces, and boil them with 400ml of water until only 100ml remains. Divide it into two doses and repeat this until the mother feels more at ease and the baby is safe.

3. Pregnancy-Supporting Porridges
In addition to using some traditional remedies to support pregnancy, it’s important for expectant mothers to include foods that help detoxify the body and keep the pregnancy healthy. Some effective options include dishes made from carp (such as carp porridge, carp soup with apples, carp cooked with red beans, or carp cooked with hemp roots).
Other beneficial dishes include chicken soup with squid, glutinous rice porridge cooked with codonopsis and eucommia, lotus seed soup with dried tangerine peel, and boiled chicken with job’s tears. These meals not only provide essential nutrients, rich in iron and vitamins, but they also help to regulate body heat, promote a healthy pregnancy, and prevent miscarriage or repeated pregnancy loss.

4. Use perilla leaves combined with other medicinal herbs
Perilla leaves are a common herb, often used in soups, eaten raw, or cooked in porridge to treat colds. However, not many know that this herb also serves as an excellent remedy for expectant mothers, helping stabilize and nourish pregnancy effectively.
To use, combine 20g of perilla leaves with 16g each of baizhu, sa stem, ngai diep, cooked rehmannia, and fu long can. Add 12g each of wolfberry, dried longan, dried lychee, peony root, and angelica. Include 10g of eucommia and licorice. Finally, add 6g of angelica root and roasted ginger, then simmer for a day and drink one decoction for seven consecutive days to help relieve abdominal pain, back pain, and bleeding. This remedy is effective in stabilizing pregnancy, promoting blood circulation, and stopping bleeding.
However, it’s important to consult a traditional Chinese medicine doctor before using perilla leaves or this remedy, as excessive consumption of perilla leaves can dangerously raise blood pressure.

5. Lotus seeds
Lotus seeds are an incredibly nutritious food for pregnant women. Not only are they rich in nutrients and versatile for many delicious and easy-to-eat dishes, but lotus seeds also serve as a highly beneficial traditional remedy for overall health, offering a variety of uses such as enhancing vitality, calming the mind, and supporting pregnancy.
Traditional remedies using lotus seeds to stabilize pregnancy and prevent miscarriage:
- Sticky rice porridge with lotus seeds and the root of the hemp plant (hemp is commonly cultivated for fiber) consumed once a month.
- Rice porridge with lotus seeds cooked together with black hen.
- Use lotus seeds that are cleaned, roasted, and mixed with Chinese yam (ratio of 1kg of lotus seeds to 2kg of dried yam), then grind finely and store in a jar. Consume about 10 teaspoons of this powder mix daily, divided into two doses on an empty stomach.

6. Sunflower seeds
Sunflower seeds are not only a healthy snack, but they also contain essential vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids necessary for the body's proper functioning. These seeds are rich in vitamin E, which helps expectant mothers stabilize their pregnancy and reduce the risk of miscarriage.
One of the most prominent benefits of sunflower seeds is their high folic acid content. Folic acid helps in the formation of red blood cells and carries oxygen from the lungs to different parts of the body. Since pregnant women have an increased need for folic acid during pregnancy, sunflower seeds are an excellent source of this nutrient. A deficiency in folic acid can lead to various issues, such as developmental disorders in the fetus.

7. Lotus leaf tea
Lotus leaves contain compounds that help reduce blood fat levels, including tannins, alkaloids, nuciferin, vitamin C, and citric, tartaric, and succinic acids. Additionally, lotus leaves have antioxidants that increase blood flow to the heart, lower blood pressure, and effectively support pregnancy.
How to prepare:
- Clean the lotus leaves, chop them into small pieces, add 300ml of water to a pot, and boil for a while to extract 200ml of concentrated lotus leaf tea, then strain out the solids.
- Add brown sugar to the lotus leaf tea and bring it to a boil again. Drink it in three doses throughout the day, and continue this for three days in a row.

8. Remedy from hemp root
Hemp root is the brown root of the hemp plant, which has an elongated shape. In traditional Chinese medicine, hemp root is known for its sweet, cold, and non-toxic properties. It contains chlorogenic acid, an effective antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compound.
Many expectant mothers who experience threatened miscarriage, spotting, or even partial placental detachment have successfully carried their pregnancy to term by using a remedy made from hemp root, which is both safe and effective:
- For threatened miscarriage, bleeding (brown or red) or partial placental detachment, use hemp root for at least one week to stop the bleeding and stabilize the pregnancy: For the first three days, use 150-200g of cleaned hemp root, slice it thinly, and boil it with 1 liter of water for 30-40 minutes, brewing 2-3 times a day. After the first four days, reduce the amount to 100g per day and repeat the boiling process. The cooked root should be eaten, not discarded.
- For general pregnancy stabilization: Use 150-200g of cleaned hemp root, sliced thinly, and stew it with chicken, pigeon, pig's feet, goat legs, pig's stomach, or pig's heart. Consume 2-3 times a week until delivery.
- For cases with dark red bleeding: Use 100-150g of sliced hemp root, boil it with water, and eat the root. For added benefits, include some mugwort or perilla leaves in the cooking process.
- This root can be boiled, roasted, or boiled and eaten. It is a very safe herb that can be used alongside prescribed medications, and even after a threatened miscarriage has passed, it can be used to ensure continued safety.
Note: Avoid overuse, as excessive consumption may lead to difficulties during labor.

9. Steamed sugarcane
In traditional medicine, sugarcane is considered a cooling herb with a sweet taste. It has a neutral effect and is effective in clearing heat, detoxifying, relieving phlegm, and stabilizing pregnancy. Sugarcane is particularly beneficial for women who have experienced miscarriage, threatened miscarriage, or other pregnancy complications, as it helps reduce the risk of further complications.
To use sugarcane for pregnancy support: Peel a section of sugarcane, remove the eyes, and steam it until cooked. Consume two pieces per day to effectively prevent miscarriage. Continue daily until the pregnancy is stable. However, ensure that the sugarcane is clean, properly sourced, and steam it yourself to ensure hygiene and preserve its nutritional benefits.

10. Use mugwort and chicken eggs
Mugwort and chicken eggs also serve as an effective remedy for stabilizing pregnancy. This combination warms the uterus and prevents miscarriage, particularly helpful for women who exhibit symptoms of cold deficiency, such as pale complexion, cold intolerance, cold hands and feet, back and knee pain, shortness of breath, palpitations, weak appetite, diarrhea, and frequent urination. These symptoms can increase the risk of miscarriage.
To prepare, you can boil chicken eggs with mugwort and consume both the eggs and the mugwort leaves. Alternatively, you can make a mugwort soup by adding a handful of chopped mugwort leaves to boiling water, crack two eggs into the pot, add a little sugar, and cook until ready. This dish is highly beneficial for nourishing and stabilizing the pregnancy.
