1. Apply a Face Mask
Applying a face mask is essential if you want to achieve smooth and healthy skin. Recently, many people have turned to natural masks that are both safe and effective. A mask made from tomato, olive oil, and egg whites can help cleanse the pores and improve skin elasticity and firmness.
Some natural face masks are very effective in tightening the skin and minimizing pores, leaving your skin smoother. You can try using a mask made of egg whites and olive oil or regularly apply tomato juice to your skin 1-2 times a week to notice firmer skin.
Steps to apply a face mask:
- Step 1: Remove makeup and cleanse your face with a gentle face wash
- Step 2: Steam your face with warm water or use toner to soften and refresh your skin
- Step 3: Dry your face and apply the mask evenly
- Step 4: Once the mask dries, gently peel it off from your chin upwards

2. Choose Lightweight Cosmetics
When it comes to makeup and daily moisturizers, consider the gel or bead texture in the ingredients. Opt for products with a lightweight consistency and moderate coverage, as heavier formulas can weigh the skin down and trap dirt in your pores.
There are many types of moisturizers available today, but not all are suitable for your skin. If you use a daily moisturizer, look for gel or light milk-based products to avoid clogging pores. For dry skin, choose richer creams, but be sure to apply a small amount (about the size of a pea) to ensure an even, thin layer.

3. Limit the Use of Pimple Creams or Strips
Pimple creams/strips are often a go-to for those looking to quickly eliminate stubborn pimples. In today's society, beauty treatments are in high demand, and many teenagers are familiar with pimple-strips. While these methods may provide temporary results, they can harm the skin in the long run. The way these products work is by stretching the pores to remove the pimples.
Using these products too frequently can enlarge your pores and make it easier for bacteria and dirt to penetrate your skin. This can make your skin more sensitive and lead to breakouts. Pimple-removal masks are not suitable for sensitive skin, as they may cause irritation.

4. Use a Primer Before Makeup
Are you self-conscious about enlarged pores when you go out? Don't worry! The secret to covering up pore imperfections for flawless skin during makeup application is primer. Today's primers not only provide excellent coverage but also have lightweight moisturizing properties, even out skin tone, and contain ingredients that help tighten pores.
Modern primers, in addition to their moisturizing and skin-toning benefits, smooth out areas with large pores, such as around the nose and cheeks, ensuring that your foundation applies smoothly and flawlessly afterward.
How to Apply Primer Correctly:
- Step 1: Cleanse your face and apply toner to moisturize your skin
- Step 2: Dispense the primer onto the back of your hand, warm it up by rubbing your fingers together, then gently dab it onto your face
- Step 3: Gently blend the primer onto your skin
- Step 4: Once the primer absorbs, you're ready to apply foundation

5. Makeup Removal
The daily facial cleanser we use primarily removes surface dirt and makeup, but it can't deeply cleanse or eliminate excess oil, gel particles, and stubborn makeup embedded in the skin. On the other hand, toner helps clear out pores, removing any remaining dirt after washing your face.
However, many cosmetics contain oil-based ingredients, which help balance the product's formula, but toners can't remove the excess oil left on the skin. This is why makeup removal is an essential step to thoroughly eliminate dirt and oil from deep within the pores. Most makeup removers contain oil-based ingredients that help cleanse the skin and neutralize excess oil.
How to Properly Remove Makeup:
- Step 1: Leave your makeup on and apply makeup remover
- Step 2: Use a cotton pad to wipe away the makeup from your skin
- Step 3: Wipe in an upward direction to avoid sagging skin that could lead to aging
- Step 4: Rinse your face thoroughly with facial cleanser

6. Facial Steaming
Facial steaming is an effective way to tighten pores. By using hot steam, pores open up and warm the face, providing hydration and moisture to the skin, preventing the pores from enlarging and the skin from becoming dry and dull. Common ingredients used for steaming include lemon leaves, lemongrass, holy basil, wormwood, perilla, mint, ginger leaves, turmeric leaves, and more.
How to Steam Your Face Properly:
- Place hot water in a wide glass bowl, crush the lemongrass and add a few drops of lemon juice to enhance the fragrance and antibacterial properties while steaming.
- Next, use a clean, large towel to cover your head, and hold your face about 30 cm above the bowl so that the steam reaches your skin.
- Steam for about 20 minutes.

7. Apply Ice Cubes
Applying ice cubes to your face is a method many people use to treat skin damage and improve skin quality. Gently rubbing an ice cube on the face stimulates the skin's outer layers to contract, tightening pores, while the coolness of the ice helps remove excess oil from the skin.
Regularly using ice cubes can reduce the size of pores and help eliminate excess sebum, leaving your skin cleaner. When ice is applied to the skin, your body's natural regulation increases blood flow to the area, improving circulation. As a result, your skin will appear brighter, more radiant, and healthier. For those with mild acne, applying ice can also help reduce swelling and soothe the skin.
How to do it:
- When you apply cold ice to the skin and gently massage, the skin's outer layers will begin to tighten.
- This helps reduce the size of pores, leaving your skin looking smoother and more refined.

8. Cleanse Your Skin
Pore enlargement can be caused by dirt and impurities from the environment, leftover makeup chemicals on the skin due to improper removal, and especially excess sebum produced by sweat. Therefore, the first step to minimizing pores is to cleanse your skin properly. To shrink your pores, the primary method is thorough cleansing. You should wash your face at least twice a day.
Steps for proper cleansing:
- Step 1: Choose products that match your skin type.
- Step 2: Use makeup remover for effective cleansing.
- Step 3: Cleanse with facial wash to remove impurities.
- Step 4: Exfoliate the skin.
- Step 5: Pat your face dry with a soft towel.
- Step 6: Balance your skin’s moisture.

9. Exfoliate Weekly
Every day, our skin faces dust, pollution, and makeup, all of which can lead to skin toxicity. If these toxins are not regularly removed, they can clog pores, cause breakouts, and make the skin look dull. Exfoliation is a key method to clear your pores, remove deep-seated impurities, and create a fresh environment for new skin cells to grow.
Exfoliation methods:
- There are two main types of exfoliation: physical and chemical exfoliation.
- For physical exfoliation, apply a scrub to the skin and gently massage in circular motions for 1–2 minutes, starting from the bottom up and from the inside out.
- Rinse with clean water afterward.

10. Use Rose Water
In addition to using skincare products or cleansers, rose water is another excellent method for caring for your skin. After cleansing, you should apply rose water to your face. This helps balance your skin's pH, tighten pores, and enhances the absorption of your skincare products. While most people use cotton pads to apply rose water, many women in Korea prefer to pour it into their palms and gently press it onto their skin, allowing for better absorption while massaging the skin.
Rose water can effectively clean and remove makeup without needing additional makeup removers. It helps gently open the pores to remove makeup and dirt, then tightens the pores afterward. With rose water, you no longer need to buy expensive makeup removers.
How to use rose water:
- The best practice is to apply rose water twice a day, in the morning and evening, right after washing your face or removing makeup.
- Use a small amount of rose water and gently apply it to your face and neck, focusing on the T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin).
