1. Cinnamon
Cinnamon, a popular spice used in cooking and as a fragrance, also has an excellent ability to repel mice. Known for its sweet aroma, spicy flavor, and warm sensation, cinnamon is a beloved herb during the cold winter months. It is used in the production of pharmaceuticals and food. The strong, spicy scent of cinnamon causes mice to avoid it immediately. Even if the cinnamon scent fades, the flavor left behind when chewed or gnawed by the mice will still keep them at bay.
The potent scent of cinnamon also irritates mice. You can place cinnamon sticks or cinnamon powder in areas where mice are likely to invade, especially near kitchens or places with lots of items. Alternatively, try putting cinnamon bags in drawers or wardrobes, or sprinkling fresh or dried cinnamon around your pantry. Even a few drops of cinnamon essential oil on cotton pads can be enough to keep mice away.

2. Garlic
Garlic is a spice with a very strong scent, and although not everyone enjoys its odor, it certainly makes mice uncomfortable. The pungent smell of garlic causes mice to fear it and stay away. To repel mice, simply place fresh garlic cloves (crushed if desired) in areas that mice frequent. You can sprinkle garlic powder in dark corners and cracks to make them flee. Remember, garlic powder lasts longer than fresh garlic and helps avoid it from wilting. Planting garlic in your garden around your home may also help keep these rodents at bay. Additionally, using garlic essential oil by placing a few drops on cotton balls in places where mice have appeared can be effective.

3. Cement
This method is simple yet highly effective, with the advantage of potentially eliminating an entire colony of mice, unlike using traps or sticky boards. You can mix cement with flour, cocoa powder, or anything that might attract mice, tempting them to consume it. When cement meets water, it hardens and becomes indigestible for the mice. For small animals, consuming something their bodies cannot process often leads to digestive failure, which can result in death.

4. Potatoes
Potatoes contain sodium, which can cause bloating and lead to the death of mice if consumed. Here's how you can use this to eliminate mice. The sodium in potatoes expands and effectively kills the mice. To use this method, boil 3-4 potatoes until they are soft, then mash them. Mix the mashed potatoes with some cocoa powder or any other food that might attract mice. Place this mixture in small bowls and set them where mice frequently visit. At the same time, place small bowls of water nearby to encourage the mice to drink. The more potatoes they eat, the faster they will die. This method is simple, safe, and highly effective.
Instructions:
- Boil the potatoes until soft, then mash them into a paste-like consistency.
- Mix the mashed potatoes with a little cocoa powder or vanilla to create a pleasant-smelling mixture.
- Place the mixture in small dishes and set them in places where mice are commonly seen, such as the kitchen corners, near the cupboard, or dining table. Also, place small water bowls nearby to make the mice thirsty after eating.
- Change the mixture every 1-2 days to maintain its appealing scent to attract the mice.
- With persistence, after a few days, the mice will be eliminated completely!

5. Killing Mice with Baking Soda
Baking soda, also known as a mineral salt or soda, is named for its ability to release CO2 gas when it interacts with acid. This creates a bubbling effect similar to that of carbonated drinks. Due to this characteristic, people have discovered that it can be used to poison mice. When mice ingest baking soda, the reaction between the soda and the acid in their stomachs causes them to die on the spot. Using baking soda to eliminate mice is a safe method, as it does not harm humans or pets.
The sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) in baking soda reacts with the acid in the mouse’s stomach, producing CO2 gas. Since mice cannot expel this gas from their bodies, it accumulates and blocks their internal systems, causing them to die. To carry out this method, mix 1 cup of baking soda, 1 cup of flour, and a little sugar or finely ground chocolate. Stir these ingredients together, then place the mixture on a dish or bowl in an area where mice are known to roam. The sugar or chocolate will attract them to consume the mixture.

6. Killing Mice with Detergent Powder
Mice are filthy creatures that cause a lot of trouble for humans. They are accustomed to living in dirty places like sewers and are attracted to foul smells. So when they encounter the fresh scent of detergent powder, they are sure to panic and run away. With the right mixture, you can turn detergent powder into an extremely effective mouse repellent.
While mice are already repelled by the smell of detergent powder, you can increase its potency by combining it with pepper, stale rice, and detergent powder. Mix these ingredients together and place the mixture near the mice’s habitat. This will scare them away, forcing them to relocate. Alternatively, you can prepare a mix of detergent powder, pepper, and stale rice, combine them well, and place it in areas where mice often appear. The strong scent will send them fleeing immediately.

7. Killing Mice with Camphor
Camphor is one of the most effective substances for repelling and eliminating insects, especially mice. They typically flee when they encounter the unpleasant odor of camphor. You can place camphor in areas where it is needed, such as inside wardrobes, bathrooms, or under the bed. Alternatively, you can crush the camphor and stuff it into mouse burrows. The mice will suffocate from inhaling the strong scent over time.
Simply place 1-2 camphor tablets into a metal cage or mesh bag and set it where the mice frequent. You can also grind the camphor into powder and sprinkle it in areas where mice pass through or directly into their nests. Over time, the naphthalene smell from the camphor will fill the space, and the mice will instinctively leave without the need for any additional measures.

8. Keeping Cats
Mice are among the most troublesome and destructive animals. They not only ruin household items but also contaminate food and beverages, and they are responsible for spreading numerous dangerous diseases. However, mice are highly intelligent, and trapping or driving them out of the house can be a difficult task. Sometimes, even a mouse trap won’t work because the mice are already aware of the danger. Cats, however, are natural predators of mice, and their presence alone is enough to send the mice running.
If you have a cat in your home, the mice will be terrified. Every time the cat meows, the mice will flee, and not only will the cat chase them away, but it can also help to eliminate them altogether. Furthermore, cats are incredibly adorable, and children or pet owners alike will be fond of them. Cats can be both loving companions and effective mouse exterminators for your home.

9. Peppermint
If the mice have become too clever to fall for traps, you can take advantage of scents they fear to drive them out of your home. One such scent is peppermint oil. You can use fresh or dried peppermint leaves, or soak cotton balls in peppermint oil and place them in areas where mice frequently appear or areas you wish to keep them away from. If your space allows, planting peppermint bushes around your home is also an excellent method.
Alternatively, you can use peppermint essential oil. The key to using peppermint oil as a mouse deterrent is to choose pure, high-quality oil and use it at the highest possible concentration. Don’t dilute it too much to save money, as this will only waste your time and money without providing the desired results. Using peppermint oil to repel mice is one of the most humane methods available. If you don’t want to deal with the aftermath of traps, sticky traps, or poisoned bait, peppermint oil will be the perfect choice for you.

10. Vinegar
Mice will no longer dare to approach your home if you use this method. Mice are known for their rapid reproduction, which makes it difficult to completely rid your house of them once they’ve taken up residence. However, there’s one little-known fact: mice absolutely despise vinegar.
So, a very simple and effective method is to soak cotton balls in vinegar and place them in areas where mice are known to frequent or around the perimeter of your house. You can reuse these cotton balls the next day by simply letting them dry, then re-soaking them in vinegar and placing them back in the same spots where mice tend to appear.

11. Chili Powder
Chili is a common spice with a sharp, pungent flavor that can bring tears to your eyes and effectively repel mice. Mice are not fond of chili powder and will try to avoid it at all costs. Sprinkling chili powder around their frequent paths or near their nests is one of the best ways to keep them at bay. However, make sure to keep it out of reach of children and others who might accidentally touch the chili powder.
If your home has a large outdoor space where mice may be living, you can enhance the effectiveness of chili powder by mixing it with water and spraying the solution throughout your garden, especially in areas where you suspect the mice may have made their homes. This will quickly make them flee the area.
