1. Poem: LETTER TO MY FATHER - Nguyễn Đình Cường
LETTER TO MY FATHER
Poetry by Nguyễn Đình Cường
I write a letter to the island
To show off to my father
Last night, I was at home
Celebrating Mid-Autumn, so much fun!
The lanterns were bought by mom
I joined the procession with friends
Everyone was joyful and cheerful
Bringing lanterns to the cultural center.
The stage was beautifully decorated
There was even a lion dance troupe
The clowns made us all laugh
Their bellies grew even bigger.
The lion's mouth seemed to breathe fire
The lion’s fur was all spiked
The most beautiful was the dragon
Twisting and turning around the stage.
I joined the reading contest
Together with my friends performing some dances
Mom sat below, praising me all the time
Oh! I’m so great at this!
Some people at the cultural center
Put out moon cakes on display
Then they started singing songs
And then, we all shared the feast.
Uncle Cuội sat in one place
Smiling with his teeth showing
While Sister Hằng was so bright
Joyfully celebrating with me!
Father, so far away
I can’t send you any gifts
But through the waves, I’ll sing this song
To cheer you on as you stand guard.
Out at sea, the sky vast and wide
Father, I hope you are happy and healthy!
Mom and I are here at home
Competing with you, Father!

2. Poem: MID-AUTUMN MEMORIES - Phan Thu Hà
MID-AUTUMN MEMORIES
Poetry by Phan Thu Hà
Wandering up to the Mã Street
To buy a ticket back to childhood
Digging up memories
That have long since passed.
Colorful tò he toys
Various lanterns in every shape
The chatter of many children
Oh, look! The military lantern parade.
Then the drum beats and lion dances
The jolly smile of Mr. Địa
The whole neighborhood gathered round
Celebrating a joyful Mid-Autumn Festival.
The Mid-Autumns of my childhood
Are now far behind
But I return to Mã Street
To seek a distant time...

3. Poem: SAIGON MID-AUTUMN NIGHT - Nghi Lâm
SAIGON MID-AUTUMN NIGHT
Poetry by: Nghi Lâm
You and I stroll around the city
Admiring Saigon shining bright for Mid-Autumn
Though the night sky is still veiled with clouds
The children still carry their pretty lanterns.
Tao Đàn Park is never empty
A myriad of flowers blooms around you
In tender affection, soft lips touch
The sweetness filling every breath we take.
Countless lanterns bloom in radiant colors
The golden moonlight softly casts down
It seems as though the figure of Sister Hằng is here
As we enjoy this Mid-Autumn night full of love.
The later it gets, the busier the streets become
At Bạch Đằng wharf, the wind cools the riverbanks
Couples in awe gaze at the flickering candles
On the passenger boats floating along the water.
I take you back down Thi Sách Street
To a peaceful corner lined with trees
In my arms, I hold your delicate form
Listening to the beat of our hearts in unison.
Mid-Autumn night in Saigon grows more exciting
As everyone celebrates the children’s festival
And with you by my side, I’m never alone
WHAT HAPPINESS COULD BE GREATER THAN THIS!

4. Poem: MOON MIRROR - Hồ Viết Bình
MOON MIRROR
Poetry by Hồ Viết Bình
Once, the moon was very close
All creatures gathered, singing and dancing
With joy and harmony in the air
Celebrating with the shining figure of Hằng Nga.
Peaceful life passed by
Love and unity made the people warm and happy
But suddenly, a fierce storm arose
Dark clouds covered the moon’s reflection.
A terrible demon appeared, growling
Shattering the mirror of the moon
All creatures wept, tears falling
And together they fought against the evil monster.
Picking up the broken pieces of the moon
They fixed it, just in time for Mid-Autumn
Fighting off the wicked demon
As the moon soared up to the highest sky.
Now, the children wish for the moon to come closer
Inviting them to play along with Sister Hằng
The bright full moon shining brightly
And the evil demon vanishing from this world.

5. Poem: CONCLUSION OF A YOUNG DOCTOR - Phan Huy Hùng
CONCLUSION OF A YOUNG DOCTOR
Poem by Phan Huy Hùng
My heart beats with excitement, like drums calling for the Mid-Autumn Festival
My eyes shine like the full moon lighting up the rice fields
My feet dance gracefully
Beautiful like the spirit of my homeland ...
Though my parents are poor, they are rich in love
They give me the dream of becoming a doctor
To travel the world and heal the diseases of the century
Filtering the blood and essence of a human heart!

6. Poem: THE MOON AND THE LOTUS - Đoàn Thịnh
THE MOON AND THE LOTUS
Poem by Đoàn Thịnh
The Mid-Autumn moon shines bright, on this full moon night
The scent of lotus carries, with the moon resting in the pond.
Where can one buy such purity?
How could the eyes catch such dazzling beauty?
The pond’s stillness mirrors a thousand-year-old reflection
That never disturbs the image of the moonlit lotus.

7. Poem: MID-AUTUMN MOON SHINING BRIGHT AS A MIRROR... - Hoàng Phan
MID-AUTUMN MOON SHINING BRIGHT AS A MIRROR...
Poem by Hoàng Phan
THE MOON - North and South celebrate the same festival
THIS Mid-Autumn, children enjoy their playtime
THE MOON full and bright in the sky
SHINES a mirror on the faces of innocent children
LIKE weaving dreams, embroidering wishes
THE MOON's reflection illuminates the human world
THE PRESIDENT cares deeply for the children
THE LOTUS pond, the fruit garden, filled with affection
WATCHING the parade of lights and lanterns
THE FESTIVAL scene lively at the village yard!
REMEMBERING the President’s great kindness
CARING for the children, always sharing gifts
The children love the President dearly
SINGING together, offering flowers to him!

8. Poem: FOREVER REMEMBERING MID-AUTUMN AT SCHOOL - Hoàng Minh Tuấn
FOREVER REMEMBERING MID-AUTUMN AT SCHOOL
Poem by Hoàng Minh Tuấn
Celebrating Mid-Autumn at the school in Mường Lát,
The rain pours relentlessly, the days go by,
Though the Mid-Autumn moonlight is missing,
The songs and melodies still echo on!
Despite the wind and rain and countless challenges,
The room is crowded, but it doesn’t matter,
More tables and chairs, lined up in the aisles,
The lanterns hanging instead of moonlight lighting the way!
Teachers and students gather together,
Sharing a Mid-Autumn feast.
Bananas, oranges, pomelos, and custard apples,
Mooncakes, sticky rice cakes, toys, and candy ...!
The Mid-Autumn feast is never incomplete ...
Everything was prepared by our teachers,
The singing and parade continue in excitement,
With lanterns of all shapes spinning around the feast!
On this Mid-Autumn night, we are so happy,
But a faint sadness lingers,
For it’s the first time we’re away from home,
Not used to celebrating Mid-Autumn far from the village!
I understand, though, that no one wanted this,
The bridge on the way home has been swept away!
On this Mid-Autumn night, we still enjoy ourselves,
And this memory will stay with me forever!

9. Poem: DIVIDING THE MID-AUTUMN MOON - Nguyễn Lan Hương
Dividing the Mid-Autumn Moon
Poem by Nguyễn Lan Hương
I divide the autumn into two halves
One half hidden in the land of memories
The other sent with the wind
Blending gently with the cool autumn breeze.
Breaking the clouds in two
To form a boat sailing back to the past
One half, a storm of rain and wind
Drifting toward a faraway, forgotten time.
Splitting a line of poetry in half
One part kept in the depths of memory
The other, an old sadness or joy
Lost in the flow of time.
Cutting the full moon in half
Dividing it between two waiting places
The Mid-Autumn night stretches out far
For both you and me.

10. Poem: MID-AUTUMN! - Phan Thúc Định
MID-AUTUMN!
Poem by Phan Thúc Định
Lady Hằng Nga has waited through many days
The immortal waters of the heavens pour down to earth
Hoping for purity without measure
The Mid-Autumn moon reflects its divine beauty!
The old man Cuội, who once slept away his time
The Jade Emperor scolded him, made him cry in despair
His father gone, he now relies on the bitter Quế palace
Hoping time would bring him peace!
Cuội waits for the Mid-Autumn, year after year!
The stars above light the Milky Way’s edge
He wishes for just one moment
To join the children in their joyous celebrations!
He longs for home, for his humble life
Missing the struggle, like an immortal lost in time
The Mid-Autumn that everyone desires secretly
Hoping to ride the wind and visit Lady Hằng!
Strolling in the Quế palace, under the moon’s light
He dreams of seeing Lady Hằng, face to face
Offering her a gift, a token of love
Listening to Cuội playing his flute amidst the heavenly realms!
The realm of immortals differs from ours!
Greed and sorrow still exist—what’s lost is never returned.

11. Poem: THE NIGHT OF LOVE’S LIGHT - Phạm Quang Thu
THE NIGHT OF LOVE’S LIGHT
Poem by Phạm Quang Thu
You asked me how much I love you
I didn’t answer, just pointed to the sky
The bright Mid-Autumn moon shining clear
Like the love I’ve given to you.
The moonlit night, so beautiful!
The wind whispers through the leaves
The autumn season is so uniquely beautiful
Under the blue sky, the night feels like a dream
Mid-Autumn feels like poetry itself.
In the eighth month
Sending the romantic autumn to the earth and sky
Love lingers like a fragrant scent
The world sparkles
With the stars, the lantern parade echoing through the streets
Though the chrysanthemums bloom far from view
Only you, the sweet-scented milk flower, catches my eye
The green sticky rice, the pink lotus, embracing the streets
On this crowded Mid-Autumn night
Our feet crowd the streets, flowers and lanterns everywhere!
What could be happier than having you
Walk beside me on this moonlit night
The smell of fragrant sticky rice in the air
And sweet golden pomelo, not sour at all.
We walk deep into the night
The moon still shines brightly above
In your presence, the moonlight illuminates every path
Guiding us forever, just like our love!

12. Poem: HAPPY MID-AUTUMN - Hồng Ngoãn
HAPPY MID-AUTUMN
Poem by Hồng Ngoãn
This Mid-Autumn is for the children,
Everyone is bustling, coming and going,
Discussing how best to organize
So the children will have fun each year.
The children run back and forth,
The lanterns, bright as ever, are now familiar,
The moon shines brightly on the doorstep,
Glittering like the village festival night.
The loudspeakers are ready,
A small stage full of love and care,
The lanterns light up the night
Shining in seven colors, spinning round and round.
From adults to children,
Everyone excited, feeling like children again,
Returning to a time of dreams and wonder,
Sitting and waiting for the moon to rise...
The full moon is familiar now,
On the 15th of the eighth month, the lanterns of the stars shine bright,
Children, sing loud and clear,
Joining in the dance...filled with the dreams of many days!
