1. Poem: Inner Storm
INNER STORM!
Author: Phan Thúc Định
The waves crash, pulling away a sigh
You hold it in amidst the bustling beach town
Your heart storms, though I remain unaware
Salty and bitter, as the sea mocks me!
You chase life's rules forevermore
Guarding yourself against the relentless tides
The seagulls dive, wings bending in haste
Life is fragile, what does a promise mean?
The morning light caresses the spring's soft glow
As footprints grace the shore, countless and pure
Which footprint did the waves just erase?
You panic, but the waves won’t heed you!
Raindrops fall, silver strands in your hair
But even when stained, you remain vibrant
You still believe, through trials and struggles
That the sacred truths shall never fade...

2. Poem: Moon Over My Homeland
MOON OVER MY HOMELAND!
Author: Phan Thúc Định
The moon lowers, its glow like precious pearls
Guiding lovers with its seductive glow...
The ancient mountains are still, lost in a trance
The silver mist chills the late night air, waiting for what comes next!
The river hums with its lazy waves
The sail boldly meets the waiting lover
A golden cup pours sorrowful drink
It tilts and sways, drowning in the silence of solitude!
The areca palms stand, in quiet tribute
The moon kisses secretly, coming near then drifting away
The bamboo grove stands indifferent to time
Under the moon’s gaze, youth awakens with grace again!
The flowers' flame flickers in the distance
Lighting its own path, ignoring the full moon
A woman from the village, alone, peers out at midnight
Her heart heavy, aching with quiet longing!

3. Poem: Early Autumn
EARLY AUTUMN...
Author: Phan Thúc Định
This afternoon, the sun is weighed down with blood
A part falls onto the hills
The birds on their way home
Carry the remaining portion as they fly away!
Dusk chases the sun, demanding its return!
The village girl, standing on the hill, sighs
Wishing the day could last longer, but it fades away!
The early autumn mist weaves fine threads
Gently draping the delicate web
Startled, the thin spider shivers
The half-finished web sways on the branch!
The cuckoo stops crying
Summer has drained its energy
The crickets now sing with a piercing cry
Autumn arrives, leaving behind the leaves of sorrow!
From now on, someone will wait in the late afternoon
Feeling lost, wondering what to expect
The dark circles under their eyes, like a mother’s embrace
Do you hear the whispers in the wind...?

4. Poem: Peaceful
PEACEFUL!
Author: Phan Thúc Định
Look up at the sky, and your pain will ease
After the rain, the bright sun will shine
Though yesterday was dark and full of bitterness
Today will rise, pure and high!
Look up at the sky, and your sorrow will end
Your heart wide open to the winds of fortune
Some winds may bring storms and struggles
But others will cleanse you, bringing warmth with the dawn!
The foolishness of both you and I...
Is living today without regard for tomorrow
Letting yesterday consume us
But yesterday never really exists... 'If Only'!
Live peacefully, my dear, and let your hair stay forever young
Like the fields of rice, like a young girl
Let yesterday be wrapped in 'Those Days'
Live joyfully, for life is but a fleeting moment!

5. Poem: Paradise
PARADISE...
Author: Phan Thúc Định
I sit, counting down the moments
Listening to the strings play, my fingers tingling!
Your melody is low, from paradise
Teasingly, leaving the throne forgotten!
You, frustrated with life, threaten to demand a refund!
The sky pours sunlight, serenading me as it sets
Love scorned plucks the mù u fruit
And autumn fades, lonely, just for me!
As for me, I collect the morning light
Falling on the street corner, saving it for the rainy days
Should fate leave a forgotten bond
You’ll become queen, and I’ll remain your loyal servant!
Surely, this couple from our land
In anger, seeks a paradise to profess their love...

6. Poem: Hidden Love
HIDDEN LOVE!
Author: Phan Thúc Định
Hidden love is like morning dew
Soaking into the leaf, forever holding the green hue!
Thinking it will stay sweet and pure
Only to find the season takes the branch, leaves drifting away!
Hidden love, shaped perfectly by your hands
Beating lightly in your chest, a fading heart
Falling with the autumn leaves
Breaking the bond, indifferent to the notes played on the strings!
Hidden love lingers in the middle
Suspicion fueling the salt and ginger, bitter and forgotten
Leaving me afloat in a sea of uncertainty
Drifting through life's accidental moments!

7. Poem: Homeland
.
HOMELAND!
Author: Phan Thúc Định
Before autumn turns the heart to gold
Falling leaves cover the distant village gates...
The betel nut tree still casts its shadow on the porch
The pepper vines lazily crawl along the moss-covered walls.
Mother still waits every afternoon
The wind blows across the dyke, the kite flutters softly!
Just that much, is there more to wish for?
Let my soul drift away from the city's tumult, seeking peace.
The village river, shifting with every turn
The soul of the village still flows with the river's course!
Lost along the cowherd's path...
Lost in the muddy stream, nourished by the village's embrace!

8. Poem: What If?
WHAT IF?
Author: Phan Thúc Định
If the Lào winds cease, dear
Then surely our Nghệ An will lose its charm
And how will we find the sharp, candid words
Teeth, then, and how, oh, these raw sounds in the world?
If the green river waters of Lam Giang vanish
Would the people of my homeland still sing the old tunes?
So, when far apart, would hearts truly yearn
''Why don't you come back, love?''
If the endless dykes are no longer there
Where would our childhood memories go?
Digging for shellfish in the quiet ebb
Every evening, letting the wind carry our kites high!
If there were no more storms, no more cold winds
Would the hardship and poverty really end?
But surely, the bonds of survival in this world
Would never be as close as we are now!

9. Poem: Tilting!
TILTING!
Author: Phan Thuc Dinh
The earth tilts towards the sun
The sea tilts, opening the door to waves that crash
A mother tilts, pouring warm milk
A child tilts their eyes, drinking in love!
She tilts her hair in the evening breeze
The mountains tilt with the golden eyes of sunset
A father tilts his hands to plow the field
For the season tilts toward fulfillment and warmth!
The dike tilts with folk songs
The boat's waves are tossed about...
The rain tilts on the thatched roof from the past
Reminding those far away, feeling homesick and lost...
Life itself tilts even in dreams
When nothing else tilts anymore... the transition of life's seasons!!!

10. Poem: Ngâu!
NGÂU!
Author: Phan Thúc Định
The sky turns gray with soft rain
A young maiden blames it on me...
She says I, the poet, made her sigh
Leaving her to feel the sadness, falling away from time!
The yellow leaves sigh by the doorstep
The sun kisses them one last time, fading from the tree
My words are true, my heart is too
But how could you understand my grief after all these years?
What is real, now seems fragile
Words of affection fade into belief
Not only girls get caught up in dreams
Men too have hearts lost in wild thoughts!
Even a poem can rise or fall
How much more, when it's the first words of love
It's not just you feeling the pain of Ngâu
Even I face the storm, alone in the deep night!

11. Poem: A Vow...
THE OATH...
Author: Phan Thúc Định
I gather all my vows and promises
On the day I loved you, I whispered them many times
Tie them into a bundle to be weighed
Strangely, the oaths felt as light as air.
My heart unfulfilled, I ask the moon
Why did you insist on swearing that night?
Using the moon as a witness along the riverbank
Sending my oath through the streams to the river...
The moon smiled with rosy lips
Love and vows... countless couples, side by side!
But the world’s promises fade like chalk
And when broken, I become thin and frail.
Even when they choose the full moon
When it wanes, they turn bitter and blame
That I, too, was incomplete
So lovers part ways along the path!
Well, who can argue with that?
Deceit... how often do lovers speak with sincerity?!

12. Poem: Hidden
HIDDEN...
Author: Phan Thúc Định
I hide the sunset in my shirt
When sadness arises, I open it to see
I hide the dawn in my hair
Night falls without needing a light...
I hide you in my eyes
Only I can see you, alone
Invisible yet not illusory
Wandering throughout my entire life!
I hide my jealousy in the mountains
Waiting for the rain to carry it to you
Jealousy flows like a wild river
Rushing, drowned in drunkenness!
I hide my loneliness in the ocean
The sea that never sleeps
My loneliness remains awake forever
Yearning, loving even in my dreams!
25/7/2018.
