1. Poem: Storm of My Hometown - Trần Đức Lực
Storm of My Hometown
Author: Trần Đức Lực
Hearing news of the storm approaching my homeland
My thatched house swaying in the wind
A wanderer returned yesterday
Silently feeling nostalgic for the simple rice and soup from home.
Last night's rainstorm flooded the lanes
Mother, I bet you're feeling sad, aren't you?
Because I’ve lived my life in solitude
Like a stork drifting along the riverbank.
This morning, the storm calmed down
Gathering withered vegetables, old bamboo shoots
Living far from home, I miss it deeply
Every time I hear the storm near my doorstep.

2. Poem: The Flood Season - Pham Hong Giang
The Flood Season
Author: Pham Hong Giang
I've heard on the news about the storms and floods
Feeling for you, wondering if you are sleeping peacefully
The waters rise and threaten to engulf the roof
Will that place remain safe, I wonder.
The flood submerged, sweeping away the Monkey Bridge
The path you walk is filled with uncertainty
Autumn has arrived, but the storm clouds still loom
The small house sways, its stability uncertain.
The children head to school, the road slick and steep
Backpacks heavy with dry clothes
The house is distant, the hills are rough and uneven
Rice packets are hidden with their school supplies.
At dawn, the entire area is flooded
Wiping away the marks of time
The already poor struggle even more
Who can understand when "the sky falls to the earth".
White scarves circle in mourning for those lost
Oh heaven...
The truth...
So harsh!

3. Poem: The Storm - Chu Long
The Storm
Author: Chu Long
Where has the warm sun of spring gone?
Allowing the storm to ravage everywhere
It moves boldly, without fear of the sky
Disregarding both Earth and the people below.
The storm leaves destruction in its wake
Flooded ponds, rivers filled with sorrow
Homes and fields are shattered
No landing for boats, no shores to wait for.
The storm leaves fish and shrimp adrift
Birds lose their nests, herons wander far
Even the mountains stand bare
The land is barren, the sun’s light weak.
The storm ravages forests and trees
Breaking dams, the water surrounds all
It causes floods and terrifying mudslides
Bringing hardship and despair to life.
Wherever the storm strikes
That land falls into desolation...

4. Poem: After the Storm - Doan Thi Hong Suong
After the Storm
Author: Doan Thi Hong Suong
Pseudonym: Dan Moc
*****
The storm has passed,
A once prosperous land, now barren and devastated
But you, Mother, are still safe
For me, that is the greatest blessing
Though I struggle here,
Nothing compares to your hardship in the homeland.
The sugarcane fields, the melon patches, submerged in sorrowful waters
Even the old tamarind tree, ripped from its roots,
You and Mother, weak and frail,
If we can overcome this, it is truly divine intervention.
I pray silently here,
Hoping that you and Mother find peace, and that the homeland is safe
The fierce storm swept everything away, leaving only chaos
But
There are villages, there are soldiers, and there are volunteers
They will rush to help, as if family
Building us a shelter with care
And working the fields for Mother
Mother, please don't be sad
Though we’ve lost so much, don't lose hope
After it all, my wish is simple
What is gone, we’ll rebuild with love, and start anew tomorrow.
Wipe away your tears, lift your head high, and hold my hand tight
Storms, rain, floods, or stones falling on our shoulders
None of these can break us, nor stop our journey
We are the ones who have crossed turbulent seas
The ones who dug through mountains to build a future
We've overcome it all, now we rebuild our lives.

5. Poem: Heartstorm - Trinh Thanh Hang
Heartstorm
Poem by Thanh Hang Trinh
The vegetable garden is lush this afternoon,
Mother, with her hands, tills the soil and plants
The chickens happily roam, pecking for food,
Picking worms and rice, not a minute to spare before nightfall.
From the porch, the lullaby echoes,
The hammock sways with the sound of mother's soothing words
Her whole life, she has built this home,
Though debt remains, she finds peace in the present.
Then, suddenly, thunder rumbles,
The flood rushes in, darkening the world
The mountains collapse, the earth trembles,
And torrents flood every corner.
Everything is swept away in chaos
The newly built house is gone in the flood
Someone is crying on the hill,
Oh God, where is my child now?
The cries tear the heavens and earth apart
The sorrow of a mother who has spent her life saving
Because of the storm and the floods
Her home is shattered, her old age left in grief.
Calling to the heavens, but they're too far away
What will become of her lonely old age tomorrow?
Teary eyes, a burning nose,
Who will hear her sorrow in this world?
If only the rain and wind on the mountains
Would cease, to lessen the heartache
So she could have a few more peaceful years
For her old body to find a bit of calm.

6. Poem: July Flood Emotions - Lan Thanh
July Flood Emotions
Author: Lan Thanh
The rain keeps falling... it never stops
The water is flooding across the village
Where are the forests to stop the flood?
Where are the children’s laughs and smiles?
All that’s heard is the roar of the water
And the mountains floating in a dream
The sun is like a pawn
Submerged in the clouds’ embrace.
Who is this girl, where does she belong?
Covered in mud and water
Staggering with each step
Waiting for a comforting embrace.
Oh my homeland, my heart aches
The roads are now rivers
The rain tears apart the hills
The sky is swallowed by the pale clouds.
The rain hasn’t stopped, still raging
Mother’s eyes are filled with tears and grit
Father stands, burned by the fire, unsure whether to sit or stand
The child is shaken, confused by the chaos.
It’s painful, it’s heartbreaking
Why must this flood happen?
Lan Thanh

7. Poem: The Storm in a Mother's Heart - Hồ Viết Bình
The Storm in a Mother's Heart
Author: Hồ Viết Bình
Children, hold tight
Let the wind and rain lash, let them strike
Your loving mother is here with you
Arms wide open, protecting you and bringing peace to your hearts.
The trees bend, the winds howl and beat
The house sways, flooded by endless waters
Mother runs, constantly watching
Your father is far at sea, unable to make it back in time.
In the past, father would always return early
This storm, however, changed direction so quickly
His boat has to circle aimlessly
Hoping to find a safe place, but will it?
Do you understand, my child, the storm inside my heart?
The winds outside cannot compare
As I hold you, I anxiously await news of your father
Despite the fierce storm, I remain steadfast.
Do you see the pink clouds gathering?
The fleet is returning, flags waving in the wind
Your father rebuilds the shelter
Tomorrow, the boat sets out again into the sea.

8. Poem: Hanoi in the Rainy Storm - Doãn Kim Oanh
Hanoi in the Rainy Storm
Author: Doãn Kim Oanh
The storm will arrive tomorrow
Tonight, the rain has begun
Hanoi is flooded today
Groups of people walk in the rain.
Do you remember the words mother said?
Walk carefully, my child
Seeing you walk through the flooded streets
My heart feels heavy with worry.
Hanoi, once gentle and beautiful
Now turned into a sea of floods
The city seems lost, submerged
Hanoi is barely recognizable now.
Where can one go to take a stroll?
The traffic is unbearable
Even the simple task of going to the market
Seems like an impossible struggle.
The floods keep coming, spreading further
The dikes break, people are swept away
I feel sorrow for my hometown
Where the rice pots and water jars belong.
The night rain floods the house
Mother must be very sad, right?
She sits by the door, waiting for me
Her eyes lost, gazing into the emptiness.
I pray the rain and storm will cease
So the skies can clear and clouds float away
So that everyone can return home safely
And peace will return to the streets.

9. Poem: Heartstorm - Phan Thúc Định
Heartstorm
Author: Phan Thúc Định
The waves crash, dragging away a sigh
As you hold back amidst the noise of the coastal town
Your indifference makes my heart storm
Salty pain from the waves teasing me!
You’re always caught in the truths of life
Guarding yourself against the relentless waves
The seagulls soar in a hurried tilt
Life is fragile, promises seem so uncertain?
The morning light gently caresses the spring’s softness
As the shoreline leaves footprints in the sand
Which footstep will the waves erase?
You struggle, yet the waves elude your grasp!
Each raindrop falls, silvering the hair
Yet even if the color fades, do you believe, my dear?
That I still trust, despite life’s ups and downs
That sacred things remain unbroken forever...

10. Poem: Flood Season in Hà Giang - Nguyễn Lan Hương
Flood Season in Hà Giang
Author: Nguyễn Lan Hương
Do the buckwheat flowers still bloom on the fields?
When the flood season washes away everything from homes
Can the sounds of the Mong's flute still be heard?
Will the Dao girls still descend from the mountains?
The love market night passes in a rush
The corn wine still untouched, too soon to feel its buzz
The Đồng Văn plateau makes the birds' wings tire
Will they still fly amidst the relentless floods?
Blame the river for the Khâu Vai market being stranded
Is it anyone’s fault, or just the heavens above?
Homes, cattle washed away by the floodwaters
Is the rain falling, or are these the tears of the flood victims?
Let the flag fly atop Lũng Cú’s peak
Let the clouds gently drift over the winding passes
Let the birds sing on the steep slopes
Let love return to Hà Giang to reunite.
The buckwheat flowers still bloom, as they did before
The shy Dao girl smiles her lovely smile
The Mong boy still dances to the love flute
Let’s go down from the mountain to the Khâu Vai market.

11. Poem: Storm on Motherland - Bùi Thế Uyên
Storm on Motherland
Author: Bùi Thế Uyên
Ninh Bình, my Motherland
The winds are ravaging, rain floods my heart
I pray with an aching soul
Oh winds, please stop, let the rain fall no more.
I long for my Motherland to be at peace
For my homeland to stand beautiful before the storm
Even far away, I watch and listen
As the winds and rain stir my heart with pain...

12. Poem: Off-season Thunderstorm - Chu Long
Off-season Thunderstorm
Author: Chu Long
In the cold winter season
The sky suddenly unleashes a storm so wild
Flashes of lightning, thunder roaring loud
The rain pours heavily, crossing every path.
How could the sky be so heartless?
Bringing harsh cold while golden sun should shine?
The river chills, the earth weeps
Even the forest and mountains turn gray...oh dear...
The villagers can only call out... Sky...!
The crops fail, fields turn white with loss.
Trees droop, flowers and fruits wither
Vegetables and roots die under the winter's grip.
The cattle collapse, many fall
The chickens, pigs, ducks...spring has no place here.
All the bitterness, debts, and woes
The off-season thunderstorm and bitter cold.
This spring, no blossoms will bloom
The land is barren, my homeland's soul...!

13. Poem: Landslide - Trương Túy Anh
Landslide
Poet: Trương Túy Anh
The mighty Tiền River sings a lullaby
Carrying fertile soil to nourish the land
Golden rice fields stretch, capturing the heart
A couple awaits the moon, longing for its light.
Suddenly, a loud crash breaks the quiet night
The green river, upset, tears its banks apart
It sweeps away homes that once offered shelter
A mother's sorrow flows, her tears endless.
A lifetime of hard work in sun and rain
In an instant, everything turns to smoke
The floodwaters rise, drowning all
We lose possessions, orphaned children mourn deeply.
Deforestation, sand mining, and blocked rivers
The sea unleashes its wrath, waves crash and erode
The fish scatter, crying in panic
It is the fault of both nature and mankind...
This evening, I visit my hometown
Listening to the sorrowful folk songs
Oh gentle winds and rains, ease your fury
May people live in peace, without suffering.

14. Poem: My Homeland - Phan Thúc Định
My Homeland
Author: Phan Thúc Định
In Nghệ’s land, sunshine is now a luxury,
The sky has fled, leaving the heavens bare.
Dark clouds, from who knows where, roll in,
The restless heart sighs as time slips away.
The ponds reflect the croaks of frogs in playful joy,
Love thrives in the heavy sounds of forgotten songs...
The moon unexpectedly shows, only to hide again,
Unfinished desires, lost, unspoken.
The mountain remains young, though its crown turns grey,
The tears of the land flow through every stream.
Heavy birds, soaked by the wind,
Water lilies drift, far from home.
The roof tiles crumble, leaking air within,
Children’s shadows fleeting, elderly figures lingering...
The muddy water dances under the moon’s pale light,
The house sways like a boat drifting in the stream.
The cries of the women break the heart,
The drummers' call echoes in the distance...
Yet, no closeness can bloom, love’s embrace denied,
The floodwaters block the flow of affection.
O Nghệ’s land, how I long for you!
Even in years, I will return to visit...
What have the people of Nghệ done to me?
To make the sun scorch, and the rains relentlessly fall!
By Phan Thúc Định.

15. Poem: Longing for Nghệ’s Land - Nguyễn Lan Hương
Longing for Nghệ’s Land
Author: Nguyễn Lan Hương
Anger and affection carry me back to Nghệ’s land,
The poor homeland, where the sun scorches the skin.
For twelve months, three months bring the storms,
But the folk songs of the region still resonate.
Mother always says, being from Nghệ means strength,
Lam River girls must be resolute.
Even when the ocean roars, and the winds howl,
We smile, daring to face every misfortune.
Let me return and warm myself with the love of home,
In the stormy winds, life will rise again.
Listening to the radio, it says the sea is rough today,
The land of Nghệ An trembles under the steady rain.
O Lam River, your waters shift from clear to murky,
The old songs speak of love, of longing.
Let me send some sunshine to that faraway land,
Can love hold on to this poor homeland?
I’ve traveled everywhere, but still, I’m a child of Nghệ,
Even if it’s not the place of birth, not where I was raised.
The land of my ancestors remains with me,
I love my homeland, my Nghệ’s land!

16. Poem: Longing for Home - Hoàng Minh Tuấn
Longing for Home
Poet: Hoàng Minh Tuấn
Homeland! I miss you, I love you!
Today, an unexpected storm swept through.
The water, vast like the ocean,
The village is no longer the peaceful settlement it once was!
The waters rise, the winds whip up waves,
The sky seems to pour all its fury!
Someone cries silently, searching for their child,
The anguished cries echo, as if the mountains themselves are mourning.
Mother sits, her heart heavy with sorrow,
The chickens, the rice fields, all lost!
The sky and earth, oh what a tragedy!
How will the embankments hold up against this?
And the rain continues to pour,
Who can tell when it will stop?
When will the plowing and planting return?
Will the children go back to school, and the buffalo return to the fields?
When will the floodwaters recede?
When will the fields dry out, oh heavens?
Though we know it's the fault of the heavens,
It’s also the fault of humankind!
The forests are being chopped down every hour,
What can stop the flood, and block the rains now?
Will people realize their mistake?
Stop destroying the forests, or we will all suffer!
The storms will come again, no doubt,
We pray the next one doesn't strike here!
