1. Truth Behind the Scam Claims, Official Statement from 'Ocean Edu'
In response to public feedback, Ocean Edu has conducted a thorough review of each local branch and provided an official clarification on each incident:
Ocean Edu's Review of Tuition Fee Refund Requests
To ensure an objective perspective on parent complaints regarding dissatisfaction with the English language quality at Ocean Edu, resulting in mid-course withdrawals and requests for tuition refunds for uncompleted lessons, Pham Thi Hien, the head of quality control and academic affairs at Ocean Edu, explained that the company is addressing cases in Ba Vi with clear regulations.
"All cases arising from unjustified reasons, such as students not achieving quality results and wanting to quit, require a thorough review of both the input and output criteria. If the issue lies with Ocean Edu, we will resolve it as normal, with some cases resulting in a full 100% refund," said Hien.
Regarding the frequent teacher assistant changes, Hien stated that assistants are only allowed to attend classes a specific number of times. For example, in the Kitty class for young children, assistants are in the classroom for about 17-18 out of 24 sessions.
"Some students have mentioned that they feel uncomfortable with the assistant in the classroom and requested the assistant leave," added Hien.
Tạ Lan Hương, the media representative for Ocean Edu, explained that while there are extracurricular activities like team building, outdoor events such as supermarket visits were canceled this summer due to the heat, and instead were held within the center.
"Not every month includes extracurricular activities. Throughout the learning process, there are supplementary sessions to enhance students' skills, such as working with foreign teachers on specific topics or participating in activities like 'Golden Bell Challenge,'" Hương explained.
Hương also mentioned that student assignments are shared via Zalo between teachers and parents, with additional management software for academic affairs. After each class, the app updates the status of the student’s lesson and includes feedback from the teacher.
On Credit Card Issues:
According to Ocean Edu's communication staff, the process of applying for an installment loan card through Lotte Finance involves an online verification process, as opposed to the in-person verification performed by Sacombank employees. Ocean Edu staff schedule a phone appointment for Lotte Finance representatives to verify the information with the parents.
The bank requires parents to have complete documentation, and the parents must visit the bank for confirmation, or Ocean Edu can assist by providing identification cards for the parents to submit at the bank.
"The bank will send staff to the parents’ home for verification, including checking their household registration and confirming that they are not involved in illegal debt activities. Even if the student does not attend Ocean Edu, the parents must still repay the bank. Parents can cancel the card application at any time before the card is issued, and once they receive the card, they may choose not to use it. Monthly payments can be made as agreed," Hương explained.
In response to complaints from parents about Sacombank staff not visiting homes for verification, particularly regarding Linh from Ba Vi, Hương stated that the staff were not following the correct procedures.
As for Linh's case, since he had agreed to sign the contract at the center, it is not accurate to claim he was "deceived" into paying monthly for the course.
When asked if Ocean Edu is authorized to facilitate credit card applications for parents, Hương clarified that the center is not authorized but merely assists parents with the process.
Regarding reports from journalists about Ocean Edu staff at Thường Tín advising that parents only need to submit their ID cards for the card application, Hien responded that the staff might not have provided complete information, as parents also need to provide additional documents like household registration or marriage certificates.
Before meeting with Ocean Edu representatives for further information about the credit card process for parents, the journalist had contacted the Thường Tín branch, where the staff member confirmed that only the ID card was needed and no signatures were required. Later, Sacombank would call parents to verify details, including tuition fees, which would be deducted from the card, with no interest charged if payments are made on time.

3. Fake Centers in Operation
With 17 years of experience in language education, Ocean Edu has established a solid reputation among consumers. However, in some areas, numerous English language centers have misused the brand's name to deceive students, claiming to be part of the Ocean Edu network in order to attract customers and engage in fraudulent activities.
To avoid falling victim to scams, customers should always RESEARCH INFORMATION CAREFULLY and REMAIN EXTRA CAUTIOUS due to the sophisticated nature of these frauds. There is a noticeable difference between the authentic Ocean Edu logo and those of the fraudulent centers in terms of color and design (please refer to the image below).
- Fake centers: These centers display Ocean Edu signage but have inconsistent branding, subpar facilities, unqualified teachers, vague transactions, and cannot issue official VAT invoices in the Ocean Edu name.
- Official centers: All signage, logos, equipment, and staff uniforms adhere strictly to the brand guidelines registered with the authorities. All receipts are officially stamped with the company's seal, and VAT invoices can be issued.
