- Food safety and hygiene.
- Environmental protection.
- Natural disaster prevention...
Consider the following reference prompt:
Prompt: "An old man who grows tea proudly talks about drinking tea from a clean, family-owned garden, while the rest is of course contaminated tea for sale. The woman selling vegetables also happily claims to eat vegetables from a clean plot, while the rest are filled with pesticides. The man selling pork does the same.
But they can't live their whole life just drinking clean tea, eating clean vegetables, or eating pork. They drink clean tea but still have to eat contaminated vegetables from others, eat clean vegetables but still consume contaminated meat from others... We are killing each other while feeling safe having protected our own families in a narrow and selfish corner..."
(Shared by Trần Nhất Hoàng - a former member of the rock band Bức Tường, reflecting on memories of late musician Trần Lập.)
Please write your thoughts on the situation described in the excerpt above (about 600 words)?
A. Introduction
Modern life has led people to become more narrow-minded and selfish. The greed for profit and money has pushed farmers from "traditional rural areas" into the path of producing "contaminated food" to meet the basic survival needs of humanity.
B. Body
1. Explaining the issue
– The image of the man growing tea proudly mentioning drinking clean tea he grew himself.
– The image of the woman selling vegetables happily claiming to eat the clean vegetables she grows.
– The man selling pork proudly raises pigs for safe consumption.
These are common images in everyday life. In a society where, everywhere we look, there is contaminated meat, chemically-laced vegetables, and tea full of chemicals...
People deal with this by "producing and consuming" for themselves, but no one can produce everything needed for life, so even if they grow clean vegetables, they still have to consume contaminated meat; they grow good tea but still consume vegetables sprayed with pesticides... Ultimately, no one is clean when each person’s conscience as a producer is selfish and narrow-minded... They only care about eating clean vegetables, ignoring the fact that others are consuming toxic products, not realizing that their actions harm others, while they themselves are being harmed in return. How unfortunate for a society that harms itself through "contaminated food".
– Contaminated food refers to food that contains harmful substances, negatively affecting human health and lives.
The excerpt above is a heart-wrenching reflection from Trần Nhất Hoàng, a former member of Bức Tường, about the moral decay in the hearts of those tasked with producing and supplying society's material needs. It highlights deep concerns about people's indifference to the health of consumers, as farmers continue to produce millions of tons of "contaminated food" that negatively impacts public health.
a. Current situation
– The issue of contaminated food is widespread, occurring every day: meat with growth hormones, vegetables sprayed with pesticides; spoiled food enhanced with chemicals... Although not a new or unfamiliar issue, it is growing increasingly alarming, causing severe negative impacts on human health.
b. Example
An article on Tienphong.vn dated December 9, 2015, reported that, according to the Food Safety Department (Ministry of Health), there are about 170 cases of food poisoning annually, with nearly 7,000 people affected and 37 deaths.
(You can also refer to recent examples of food poisoning cases.)
– The demand for food is essential, and everyone consumes vegetables, meat, and fish daily... even though we know these foods are "toxic" and "harmful," we still consume them. The issue of contaminated food forces people to negatively impact their health and lives, "resigning to fate" while constantly worrying about their own and their families' safety.
2. Consequences
– Dangerous diseases: meningitis, cancer...
– Psychological panic in society.
- Contaminated food is cheaper than clean food, distorting the market and harming individuals and businesses that operate honestly, severely damaging the economy.
3. Causes
- The primary cause of this widespread threat to public health is the selfish and cruel attitude of those involved in food production. If it's a small, local operation, it harms the health of people in that community. However, we must recognize a larger danger when most of the food we consume is supplied by large-scale industrial companies. The extent and scale of the harm caused are much greater than small-scale operations.
- Producing and selling contaminated food yields high profits.
- Additionally, the mentality of purchasing and consuming cheap goods, especially those from China, is prevalent among many Vietnamese consumers.
Example:
We've seen many investigative reports on VTV about certain factories that buy cheap, contaminated fats and produce even more harmful products to sell to restaurants, food vendors, or street vendors, who then serve these products in front of school gates daily...
4. Solutions
– Raise awareness and promote the understanding of food safety among producers and society to ensure public health.
– Strengthen monitoring, enforce strict regulations and penalties on businesses producing contaminated food.
– Individuals must be more vigilant when choosing food for themselves and their families.
C. Conclusion
– The issue of contaminated food has become a major concern for society, negatively affecting public health and creating widespread panic.
- Effective measures need to be taken to educate producers on the importance of ethics and to warn them about the disasters they may unknowingly cause through "contaminated food".
