1. Hoài Đức B High School
Hoài Đức B High School was established under Decision No. 602/QD-UB on November 25, 1978, by the Ha Son Binh Provincial People's Committee, which later merged into Hanoi. The school is located in an economically and socially challenging area with a population that fluctuates rapidly due to the fast pace of urbanization, which has affected the quality of education.
Faced with this reality, the school’s administration has recognized that improving educational quality requires building a strong team of teachers, skilled in their profession and full of compassion, to inspire students to develop a passion for learning and exploring knowledge. According to the principal, Mr. Nguyễn Danh Thông: Despite the challenges of the area, under the leadership of the Party committee, the school has built a united, dedicated faculty that is eager to progress and contribute, which has facilitated the implementation of measures to improve the teaching quality of its educators.
To create a quality teaching staff, the school regularly organizes effective teaching seminars, professional development workshops, and encourages teachers to enhance their skills through postgraduate courses, foreign language studies, and IT training to meet the demands of educational innovation. Various activities, such as the Teacher of the Year competition, the application of information technology in teaching, and electronic lesson plans, have been launched throughout the school and have attracted active participation from teachers. In the last three years, the school has had over 50 innovative initiatives, many of which have been successfully applied in practice.
These activities have brought tangible benefits, improving the quality of the teaching staff. Currently, 100% of teachers meet the required qualifications, with 24 teachers holding Master's degrees and 3 currently pursuing them. Annually, 100% of teachers achieve a 'Good' or higher rating in accordance with the national teacher standards. More than 30% of the teachers have been recognized as 'Outstanding Teachers' at the local level.
With solid professional qualifications, the school’s administration and staff have developed and applied flexible, comprehensive strategies to meet the unique needs of the students. This has included plans for nurturing talented students and providing extra support for weaker students. As a result, academic performance has continually improved. The number of excellent students increases each year, while the number of underperforming students decreases. The school consistently maintains and improves its overall academic standards. Over 90% of students are ranked as good or excellent in academics, and more than 99% achieve good or excellent behavior ratings. The graduation rate is between 99.3% and 100%, and more than 80% of students meet university entrance exam requirements. The school’s focus on excellence has also led to increased success in city-wide academic competitions.
The school not only focuses on academic education but also places great importance on the moral education of its students. The school regularly maintains close communication with students' families and the community through various channels, including the school website, direct meetings, emails, and newsletters. This has contributed to creating a healthy educational environment that prevents negative behaviors and social evils from infiltrating the school.
The school also emphasizes traditional education, teaching proper conduct, civility, and life skills. It organizes creative experience activities, cultural-sporting events, and competitions to improve students’ practical skills and contribute to the overall educational quality. Additionally, career counseling is provided to 12th-grade students, helping them choose suitable career paths based on their abilities and societal needs.
In 2017, after years of dedicated effort, Hoài Đức B High School was recognized as a National Standard School by the Hanoi People's Committee. This achievement reflects the unity and determination of the faculty, which has been the key to the school's success.
Despite being located in a rural area with lower initial enrollment scores, the collective efforts of teachers and students have led to excellent results. The average national exam and university entrance exam scores of Hoài Đức B students often surpass those of other schools in Hanoi with higher initial scores.
Over the past 40 years, the school has educated thousands of students who are now serving in various positions at both the national and local levels. Many of its alumni have become high-ranking officials in ministries, army officers, university lecturers, teachers at all levels, engineers, doctors, and skilled workers who are contributing to the development of the country.
Currently, teachers and students at Hoài Đức B High School are celebrating the 40th anniversary of the school’s founding, which will be held on November 17, 2018. Throughout its history, the school has become a trusted institution for parents not only in Hoài Đức but also in neighboring areas like Tây Mỗ, Đại Mỗ (Từ Liêm, Hanoi), Dương Nội (Hà Đông), and some areas in Quốc Oai, where parents send their children to study.

3. Nguyen Hue Specialized High School
Nguyen Hue Specialized High School was founded in March 1947, originally named the Resistance School of National Hero Nguyen Hue, located in Seu village, Trinh Tiet commune, My Duc district, Ha Dong province (now Ha Tay province).
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Quang was appointed as the first principal by the Education Department of Region III. From 1947 to 1954, other principals like Hoang Dinh An, Nguyen Khac Cuong, and Le Hoang Oanh took turns in the position, alongside early teachers like Chu Xuan Nguyen, Nguyen Van Binh, Nguyen Van Minh, and To Thao. The first cohort of nearly 200 students came from families of soldiers and officials who had fled to the countryside during the war. They were gathered into four classes, with the first three classes studying in a simple primary school building in Seu village, while the fourth class studied in the village’s communal house.
On March 30, 1948, the My Duc district committee established the school’s first party cell, including comrades Khuat Duy Dat (Secretary), Tran Van Dien, Dang Xuan Ky, and Pham Thanh.
On November 17, 1949, the school organized its first youth union congress, led by comrade Tuong Toan Chinh as the Union Head.
Between 1949 and 1950, as the resistance against French colonial forces entered a counteroffensive phase, 150 out of the 200 students from the first cohort joined the army and the armed forces. Many of them sacrificed their lives for the independence and freedom of the nation, such as martyrs Dang Dinh Liem, Tran Quang Oanh, Le Dinh Diem, Bui Truong Bao, Tuong Toan Ninh, and Nguyen Thach Toan. Their names are immortalized in history. Others became military leaders and heroes, such as General Phan Thu, General Chu Duy Kinh, Major General Luu Sy Hiep, and Phu Van Ha.
Those who could not join the military actively contributed to fields like culture, social work, diplomacy, and science. Many became senior officials, renowned scientists, writers, poets, teachers, and doctors, including Professors Pham Minh Hac, Dang Xuan Ky, Dang Ngoc Thanh, Vu Manh Kha, Hoang Manh Tu, Dang Nghiem Hoang, Dao Xuan Lam, Ngo Vi Tuan, and Artist Luu Xuan Thu. They remain a source of pride for the school.
In 1950, following French air raids in Vân Dinh, the school was evacuated to Thanh Hoa and was renamed Nguyen Trai School to avoid duplication with the military training school named after Nguyen Hue. Along with other schools such as Nguyen Thuong Hien, Hoa Lu, and Cu Chinh Lan, it contributed to the “Cultural Capital” of the liberated zone in Region III.
In 1954, after the victory in the Indochina War, and the liberation of the North, the teachers and students returned from Thanh Hoa to take over the town of Ha Dong and restored the school’s original name of Nguyen Hue.
During the resistance period, the school’s teachers and students faced numerous hardships as they balanced teaching and studying with participation in the fight for independence. The first generation of students made significant contributions to the school’s development and laid the foundation for its proud tradition. This generation of students, having endured two wars, exhibited an unwavering patriotism, sacrificing without hesitation, working hard, and contributing greatly to the country’s liberation. From Nguyen Hue’s walls, six generals, 20 colonels, 20 professors and doctors, one military hero, and 20 individuals served in the Central Party and National Assembly.
In 1959, the school, in response to the growing demand for education in the province, began offering high school classes. By 1961, Nguyen Hue became the first high school in Ha Dong province. In October 1965, the Ha Son Binh Education Department (now Ha Tay Education Department) tasked the school with training students gifted in mathematics.
The math specialization was established, marking the earliest specialized program in the North, which laid the groundwork for other specialized programs at Nguyen Hue. From 1954 to 1975, principals such as Nguyen Viet Bao (1954-1960), Phan Quang Di (1960-1967), Nguyen Nhu Cang (1967-1972), and Nguyen Sang (1972-1975) led the school, with vice-principals like Vu Tich, An Tuan Dung, and Luu Cam Ha.
During the American War, the school’s students continued to honor the school’s tradition, making significant contributions to the war efforts and the construction of socialism. Many graduates became senior officials, military officers, and scientists, holding doctorates, post-doctorates, and master’s degrees. Some notable individuals include Trinh Van Dat, Dang Ung Van, Pham Viet Vuong, Nguyen Van Ngoan, Vu Duong Thuy, Nguyen Van Quy, Do Van Lap, Nguyen Van Hien, Le Cong Quy, Nguyen Van Chuyen, Ngo Duong Sinh, and Nguyen Quoc An. Others became engineers, doctors, teachers, writers, journalists, and business leaders. Thousands of students returned to their localities, becoming key officials in provincial, district, and local governments, contributing to the country’s poverty reduction efforts. Notable alumni include Do Van Than (former Secretary of the Ha Dong District Party), and Thai Quang Chieu (former Secretary of Thanh Oai District Party).
In 1975, following the reunification of the country, the focus shifted to rebuilding and developing the nation according to socialist principles. Nguyen Hue High School, under principal Vu Tich (1975-1994), with vice-principals such as An Tuan Dung, Luu Thuy Hien, Hoang Kim Cau, Ly Quoc Hao, Bui Thi Ty, Dao Van Long, and Thai Van Binh, moved to its new campus in Ao Ca (the current location). The new building was three stories high with 30 classrooms, equipped with modern science tools from the France-Vietnam Association. The school continued its tradition of excellence, consistently ranked as a leading school in the region, with many outstanding academic and social achievements.
In 1984, the Chemistry specialization was added, followed by the French specialization in 1988. In 1995, Principal Vu Tich retired, and Thái Văn Bình took over, with vice-principals Lê Huy, Nguyễn Trọng Tấn, and Đặng Khánh Hội. Under their leadership, the school gained recognition for its achievements during the two wars and in building socialism, receiving various honors such as the Labor Medal in 1987, the second-class Labor Medal in 1990, and the first-class Labor Medal in 1997.
In 1997, following the government’s educational reforms and the goal of improving the province’s educational standards, the school expanded its focus on training talented students. On July 8, 1997, the school was officially upgraded to Nguyen Hue Specialized High School, now offering 11 specialized programs in subjects like Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, Literature, History, Geography, English, French, and Russian.
The school currently boasts a highly qualified faculty, with many teachers holding advanced degrees. Following the legacy of their predecessors, the current generation of educators at Nguyen Hue is dedicated to improving teaching, research, and professional development. Teachers have been recognized with various awards, such as the Education Ministry’s commendation, the Prime Minister’s praise, and national-level labor medals. The school has been awarded numerous accolades for its continuous excellence in education.
Today, Nguyen Hue students continue to uphold the school’s proud traditions, earning remarkable achievements in academic, sports, and environmental competitions. From 2000 to present, students have won 602 national prizes, 14 international and regional awards. Every year, 100% of students receive good or excellent behavior ratings. In recent years, 98% of students have excelled, with high graduation rates and numerous students admitted to prestigious universities. Many have become top scholars, and in 2000, the school was honored as a Hero of Labor. In 2003, it received the third-class Independence Medal, and in 2008, the second-class Independence Medal.
In 2015, the school relocated to a new campus in Hanoi, with an investment of 250 billion VND, marking a significant milestone in the school’s development. Nguyen Hue High School is now one of the most modern schools in the capital.
Nguyen Hue High School is a trusted institution that attracts outstanding students from across Hanoi. It has consistently produced national and international champions, ranking among the top schools in Vietnam. In 2018, the school was ranked 6th in the top 100 best high schools in the country.

4. Le Quy Don High School, Ha Dong
Le Quy Don High School - Ha Dong was established on December 14, 1970, under the name "Ha Dong Town High School for Dual Learning". This initiative was spearheaded by the Ha Dong Town Party Committee and People's Committee to create a model that combined both academic education and vocational training. The school initially had 3 classes with 130 students and 4 teachers. Afternoon sessions were dedicated to general education, utilizing classrooms at Nguyen Hue High School, while vocational training took place in local factories and cooperatives during the morning.
1971-1972:
During the war, the school was forced to relocate to rural areas to ensure its continuity. The school set up two branches in Liên Phương (Hoài Đức District) and Cự Khê (Thanh Oai District) to maintain education and contribute to construction efforts. Many students enlisted in the military to defend the country, and some became war heroes. In the Cự Khê area, the school and local militia bravely captured an American pilot, earning a First-Class Certificate of Merit from the Ha Tay Provincial People's Committee.
January 1973:
In 1973, the Ha Tay Provincial People's Committee and the Ha Dong Town People's Committee allocated 1 hectare of land to the school for workshops and classrooms, located near the Ha Dong Town Health Station. Initially, there were 4 classrooms with corrugated roofs for sewing and embroidery workshops, 2 buildings for carpentry and mechanical work, and 3 classrooms for morning and afternoon sessions (now the Le Hong Phong apartment complex in Nguyễn Trãi Ward, Ha Dong District).
Responding to local demands, the school was renamed “Industrial High School” to reflect its role in training workers for socialist society, combining both education and practical work. Despite its modest size, the school earned a strong reputation thanks to its dedicated teachers, effective student management, and a unified community.
The first graduating class had an impressive pass rate, ranking third among 17 high schools in Ha Tay Province. The school's academic teams in subjects like Literature and Physics won prizes at provincial and national competitions. The school also participated in various social initiatives such as reforestation in Ba Vi and the “Electricity for Tomorrow” project in Sông Đà-Hòa Bình.
1976-1993:
Following the merger of Ha Tay and Hoa Binh Provinces into Ha Son Binh Province, the school was renamed “Industrial High School A”. During this period, the school focused on building a skilled teaching staff for both academic subjects and vocational training. The vocational department expanded to include 24 teachers. The school emphasized moral and cultural education, providing a comprehensive curriculum. It grew rapidly in size and quality, laying the foundation for specialized programs starting in the following years:
- Literature Specialization: 1981
- Physics Specialization: 1982
- Information Technology Specialization: 1989
- Foreign Language Specialization: 1992
- Language and Literature Specialization: 1993
These specialized programs lasted until 1999.
1994-1995: The school was renamed to “Le Quy Don High School”.
1996: The name was updated to “Le Quy Don Specialized High School” and then in 2000 to “Le Quy Don High School”.
During this time, due to local demand, from 1997 to 2008, the Ha Tay Provincial People's Committee established a parallel Le Quy Don High School, sharing the same location and administrative structure with the original school. The combined institution had 87 classes with more than 4,600 students.
The two Le Quy Don High Schools have continuously contributed to training skilled professionals and future leaders for the country.
August 2008 to Present:
As part of Hanoi's administrative expansion, Ha Tay Province merged with Hanoi City, and the school was renamed “Le Quy Don High School - Ha Dong”. The school continues to maintain its high educational standards, earning the title of an outstanding school in Hanoi. The school is committed to the city's educational campaigns and initiatives, which have earned it the trust of the government, the local community, and the citizens of Hanoi.
