1. Prayer for Love
A prayer should include 5 key elements:
- Thanksgiving - Repentance - Promise - Request - Offering
If you'd prefer not to use this prayer, you can write your own based on these key points:
It’s best to memorize it (or print it out), or if needed, you can read from your phone placed under your feet while kneeling (but be careful not to lose it).
"Nam mô A di đà Phật" (three times)
Respectfully bow to the Jade Emperor
Respectfully bow to the Nine Heavens Immortal Princess
Respectfully bow to the Immortal Goddess Quỳnh Hoa
Respectfully bow to the Second Goddess, Queen of the Mountains, Mẫu Thượng Ngàn
Respectfully bow to the Third Goddess, the Goddess of Water
My name is:
I was born on (lunar date)
I reside at:
Today, on (lunar date), I come to Thánh Đức Tự (the correct name of Chùa Hà) with utmost reverence to express my gratitude to Mẫu Liễu Hạnh, Mẫu Thượng Ngàn, and Mẫu Thoải, who have blessed and protected my family over the years (thanksgiving).
We, mortal beings, if we have made any mistakes, I humbly ask the Goddesses for forgiveness and mercy (repentance).
I promise to make efforts to better myself, to do good deeds, and avoid evil (promise).
I ask the Goddesses to have mercy on me as I have yet to find my ideal partner. Please bless me with the right relationship, one with a kind-hearted, virtuous, and capable partner. Please grant me a love that is genuine and everlasting (this section is for women – for men, you can adjust it as needed). May I find someone with whom I can share the ups and downs of life (whether for marriage or a meaningful relationship).
With a heart full of sincerity, I offer this prayer before the Goddesses, humbly asking for their blessings to fulfill my heart’s desire.
Nam mô A di đà Phật (three times)
Respectfully (bow three times) – (offering)

2. Key Points to Remember
- Offering three altars is recommended, as it grants you three blessings: good health, success in career and wealth, and love.
- The speed at which your prayers are answered depends on your heart’s sincerity and your destiny. Some may see results quickly, while others might have to pray several times over a couple of months before their wish is fulfilled.
- The main purpose when praying for love isn’t just to find any relationship but to meet the right person who matches your destiny. It’s about finding a connection that’s in harmony, mutual, loyal, with understanding and kindness.
- If you’re only casually flirting, it’s better to wait before asking for love. Take your time and, when you’re ready to make a serious commitment, and you have belief in the power of your prayers, then go ahead.
- Chùa Hà is considered a place where one can only pray for a love that hasn’t yet come. If your love is already here, praying may lead to the opposite outcome. One user shared in an online forum: 'If you truly want to pray, make sure you understand the customs. If a couple goes to pray for love, they might end up breaking up, each seeking a new partner.'

3. Who Should and Shouldn’t Visit Chùa Hà for Love Prayers
Who should visit Chùa Hà to pray for love:
- Those who have been single for too long and haven’t found love after many years.
- Those who are single but have had trouble finding a genuine partner.
- Those looking for a committed, long-lasting relationship, someone to walk with hand in hand until the end of life.
Who should avoid visiting Chùa Hà for love prayers:
- Those who just want to experience love casually or for fun.
- Those who are just playing around, with a heart that’s divided or unwilling to commit – it’s best not to come for prayers.

4. Guidelines for Dressing, Behavior, and Speech
Chùa Hà is a sacred place, so it’s important to be mindful of your appearance, behavior, and speech while there.
- Dress appropriately for the occasion: wear sleeves that cover your shoulders and pants that reach your ankles.
- Avoid wearing skirts, lace, or visiting during your "time of the month".
- Silence your phone before entering the temple and avoid using foul language while inside.
- Refrain from playful behavior that could damage the temple’s atmosphere, and be mindful when taking photos – no thoughtless photography.

5. Steps for Praying for Love
Step 1: Prepare the offerings with three altars (mandatory):
- Offerings for the Three Jewels (for peace and health) – including incense, flowers, and candles (required).
- Sweet treats, fruits, and other offerings for the Three Jewels, but avoid offering salty food or money.
- Offerings for the Lord of Wealth (for career and prosperity) – including money, alcohol, tea, fruits, and optionally some salted dishes (these can be eaten later; offerings like sticky rice, pork rolls, or cakes are common). Don’t forget to open the bottle of alcohol before offering it.
- Offerings for the Goddess (crucial for love prayers) – including money, flowers, areca nuts, candy, and small change (for later donations).
Step 2: How to Offer Prayers
Choosing the right day is very important. The best days are peaceful and serene for your prayer; avoid overly crowded days like the 1st and 15th of the lunar month as you won’t be able to pray in peace. It's better to visit on quieter days when you can focus and pray without distraction (though going on the 1st or 15th is still fine if you manage to do so).
Before entering the temple, you should write your prayer notes. For your first visit, you need three notes:
- One for the Three Jewels
- One for the Lord of Wealth
- One for the Goddess
- Offer these notes along with your offerings to each altar.
- After placing the offerings, light five incense sticks (ideally near the incense burning area outside by the water – avoid lighting them inside as it may disturb others).
- There are five large incense bowls on the way in. Light one incense stick in each bowl, bow three times, and pray however you feel (at this point, you may just bow and not make a specific request yet).
After lighting the incense, begin by praying at the Lord of Wealth altar (for career and prosperity), then move to the Three Jewels altar (for peace and health). Bow three times at the altar of the Holy Sage (you can also pray for wisdom or better academic results if you're a student). After that, bow three times at the protective deities on both sides of the temple, then offer prayers to the Twelve Kings of Hell.
Step 3: Visit the Goddess's House:
- The Goddess’s house is located downstairs in the center of the temple.
- Begin by kneeling and facing up, then offer your prayer.
- (The prayers for the Three Jewels and the Lord of Wealth are not included here, as the main focus is on praying for love.)
- (I will provide the specific prayer text below at the end of the page.)
- After praying to the Goddess, continue kneeling and face downward, bowing to the Five Tigers and the Quan Âm statues beneath the Goddess’s altar.
- Next, stand up and bow three times to the altar of the Master, then bow to the altar of the Earth King.
- After finishing at the Goddess's house, go upstairs to the Bối Hà Temple on the right (this is the first building you see as you enter the temple).
- Pray at the altar of the General (ask for whatever you wish, but remember, the main focus here is to pray for love).
- When leaving the temple, bow three times to the two guardians at the temple doors (many people often forget this step).
- And that’s how you complete your love prayer ceremony—it’s not difficult at all!
