1. Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber
Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber (Traditional Chinese: 倚天屠龍記), also known in Vietnamese as 'The Girl of the Dragon Saber' (referring to Chu Chih-jue, who uncovers the secret), is a martial arts novel by Jin Yong. It is the final part of the 'Condor Trilogy.' The novel was first published in 1961 by Hong Kong's Hong Kong Commercial Daily and later translated into Vietnamese by the Văn Học Publishing House.
The story is set during the final days of the Yuan Dynasty, over 100 years after the events at Mount Hua in 'The Return of the Condor Heroes.' At this time, the Yuan Dynasty is crumbling due to revolts and the excesses of the court. The plot follows Zhang Wuji and his complicated relationships with four women, alongside bloody rivalries and schemes to possess two legendary treasures—the Dragon Slaying Saber and the Heaven Sword. There are rumors that the secrets hidden within the weapons could grant the power to rule the world. The novel concludes with the fall of the Yuan Dynasty and the rise of the Ming Dynasty under Zhu Yuanzhang, who eventually forces the Mongols back to the northern steppes.
Zhang Wuji is depicted as more psychologically complex than characters like Guo Jing and Yang Guo, lacking the heroic qualities they possess, which makes him a more grounded and realistic figure. He is often swayed by others and feels trapped by his circumstances, unable to escape the harsh reality of his life. By the end of the story, he sees Zhao Min as his true love, but it remains unclear whom he truly loves, even to himself. Despite his remarkable martial arts skills, which make him almost invincible, and his upright and inspiring personality, Zhang Wuji lacks the essential qualities of a leader—such as a strong desire for power and the cunning needed to maintain it. As a result, he is ultimately deceived by Zhu Yuanzhang and leaves with Zhao Min, while the Ming sect's power falls into Zhu's hands, setting the stage for his rise to conquer the world.

4. Thiên Long Bát Bộ

5. The Deer and the Cauldron
Among the renowned martial arts novels by Jin Yong, The Deer and the Cauldron stands out as one of the most beloved works. Unlike his other novels, which feature heroic warriors with exceptional martial arts skills and noble virtues, this story introduces a refreshing new angle with a protagonist who comes from humble beginnings and is far from a paragon of virtue.
Wei Xiaobao is a uniquely portrayed character. Although illiterate and unskilled in martial arts, his silver tongue, practical mindset, selfish nature, and cunning make him successful in gaining power, fame, and fortune. He shares some traits with other Jin Yong characters, such as his loyalty to friends, being thrust into difficult situations, and aspiring to a simple life. However, he also exhibits qualities of a typical villain—deceptive and scheming. Through Wei Xiaobao, Jin Yong creates a character that contrasts sharply with Lu Xun's Ah Q, representing a more complex and realistic type of hero.
In contrast to other martial arts novels by Jin Yong, The Deer and the Cauldron doesn't center on the martial conflicts or factional rivalries common in wuxia stories. Instead, it reflects the political and cultural conflicts of early Qing China. What’s surprising is that these conflicts are not resolved through the actions of skilled warriors with lofty ideals, but through a character like Wei Xiaobao—cunning, treacherous, but also honorable in his own way. In The Deer and the Cauldron, Jin Yong blurs the lines between right and wrong, good and evil, creating a masterpiece that is widely considered his finest work.

6. The Snowy Mountain Sword

United in brotherhood and loyalty to Li Zicheng, these four men share a bond that transcends life and death. However, a tragic misunderstanding leads to Hu Fei being falsely accused of betrayal, resulting in a deadly vendetta that lasts for generations. Will Hu Fei's fateful encounter with Miao Ruo Lan, the daughter of one of his sworn enemies, be able to dissolve the deep-seated hatred and ancestral grudge?
