Nguyễn Bá Ngọc was a 4th-grade student at Quảng Trung Primary School, Quảng Xương District, Thanh Hóa Province (1964-1965). In 1964, during the Vietnam War, American forces launched attacks on Southern Vietnam, while bombing the North.
One day in 1965, the Quảng Trung area was heavily bombed. With most adults out in the fields, only children remained at home. While hiding in a bunker, Ngọc heard cries from a neighboring house. Although he saved the children, Ngọc succumbed to his injuries and passed away on April 5, 1965, at the hospital. His brave actions inspired many others across the country to risk their lives to protect children in the face of enemy attacks.

Anh Kơ - pa Kơ - Lơng, born on August 19, 1948, was a member of the Gia Rai ethnic group from the Central Highlands. Driven by a deep hatred for the U.S. and Diệm forces who killed his father during a local uprising, he vowed revenge. At the age of just 13, Kơ - Lơng joined the resistance movement, despite being initially rejected by the local militia due to his age and lack of weaponry. Undeterred, he crafted his own bow and arrows and successfully ambushed and injured an enemy soldier. Though the soldier survived due to the lack of poison on the arrow, Kơ - Lơng sought out a poisoned arrowhead from an elder and continued his fight, killing three enemies in succession. As a result, he was formally inducted into the militia and given a firearm. He was tasked with killing three enemies with three bullets. In his first mission, he used a single shot to kill five enemies. His second mission saw him killing three more with one shot, two of whom died on the spot. After completing his task, he returned his third bullet. In later encounters, he successfully killed seven enemies with three bullets, and in another, he killed 19. In his application to join the military, he proudly wrote, 'I have killed thirty-four American and puppet soldiers, destroyed eight military vehicles. Now that I am older, I request to join the liberation army.' At the age of 15, Kơ - Lơng had participated in 30 battles, disabled 12 landmines, overturned 8 military vehicles, and killed 88 enemies, including four American invaders. For his bravery, he was honored with the title of Hero of the People’s Armed Forces.

In 1943, while on a mission to deliver messages, he was ambushed by enemy troops. Quick-witted, he deliberately attracted their attention, leading the enemies to fire upon him, allowing the revolutionaries he was protecting to escape to the safety of the forest. Unfortunately, Kim Đồng was hit by a bullet and died heroically at the age of 14 on February 15, 1943, beside the Lê-Nin stream. On May 15, 1986, to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the Young Pioneer Team's founding, Kim Đồng's grave and a statue of the heroic young soldier holding a flying starling were unveiled. The site has since become a historical landmark, where generations of Vietnamese children visit to honor the memory of their first team leader, Kim Đồng, whose image will forever be etched in the hearts of Vietnamese youth.

The hero I know who fought against foreign invaders is Võ Thị Sáu. She was from Đất Đỏ district, now part of Bà Rịa - Vũng Tàu province. She fought and sacrificed her life for the independence and freedom of the nation. Vừ A Dính, a young boy from the H'Mông ethnic group in Lai Châu, was only 13 when he began working as a messenger for the local militia and the army. In 1948, during an enemy raid, he was captured by the French while on a mission. Despite enduring three days of torture, he revealed nothing. Realizing his fate was sealed, he tricked the enemy into carrying him through the forest, pretending he would lead them to the resistance headquarters. When they discovered the deception, they ruthlessly executed him. His legacy lives on as a symbol of courage and sacrifice in defense of the homeland. We will forever remember him as a youthful hero of the nation.
