IV. Additional Reading
SPEAKING GAME
Speaking practice is like learning to swim: At first, you can swim just a few meters, then gradually more, until you can cross a river or stream.
Sally Sapelin, whom you often see in comedies, became globally famous and was determined to practice speaking. He and a friend came up with a game where one person names any object or issue around them, and the other must speak about it for one minute without pausing. They found this exercise fun and helpful in developing quick thinking and speaking.
You should follow their example. If you're shy, start practicing alone, and once comfortable, try it in front of strangers. Begin with simple topics and gradually move to more abstract concepts such as self-discipline, persistence, or resilience.
By asking yourself six questions: Why? Who? Where? How? What? When? You can easily talk about any topic for 60 seconds.

After taking a shower and having breakfast, I started cleaning from the living room to the bedroom, making sure everything was neat and tidy before my family returned. By noon, I finished cleaning. I treated myself to a simple meal and took a short break.
In the afternoon, I continued cleaning the yard and watering my dad’s garden. The last task was cooking a delicious meal for the family. When my parents returned and saw the house spotless, they were very happy. We sat together for dinner, and seeing the smiles on my parents’ and sister’s faces made all the effort worthwhile. That Saturday was truly a meaningful day for me.

Self-introduction
Hi everyone! We've all bid farewell to primary school and now we’re part of 6A1. Perhaps you don’t know much about my family, personality, or hobbies yet, so today I’m here to introduce myself. My name is Nguyễn Mai Linh, and I’m 11 years old. I live with my parents and younger sister in a cozy house on Bà Triệu Street. My dad is an engineer, and my mom is a doctor. My little sister is in grade 3, very obedient, and does well in school.
Every day, my mom drives me to school at 7 AM, and picks me up after school. When I get home, I help her cook and tidy up the house. I always make sure to complete all the homework before relaxing by watching TV or reading a book. Occasionally on weekends, my family visits my grandparents, where I play with my cousins and enjoy fresh fruits from the garden.
I have many hobbies: watching cartoons, reading, and occasionally playing sports to clear my mind. My house has many great books, and I’ll bring them to class if you want to read them.
My dream is to become a tour guide in the future, speak fluent English, and explore many places around the world. Thanks for listening!
About My FamilyHello everyone, I’m Nguyễn Đức Long, a student of class 6A1 at Giảng Võ Middle School.
My family lives in a small apartment in a building. Our home is always neat and tidy, thanks to my mom’s care. She’s 37 years old and works as a teacher. Every day, she goes to school, and manages household chores, cooking, and stays up late preparing lessons. I try to help by cleaning the house to ease her workload. My dad is an IT engineer and often travels for work. His job involves creating software that makes life easier. We also have a 1-year-old sister who is just learning to talk and is very cute.
My favorite part of the day is dinner when the whole family gathers together, and the table is always filled with laughter. During meals, my parents often ask us about what we’ve learned in school and the joys of the day. They encourage us to study harder, and as a reward, they promised a trip to the beautiful Da Nang beach at the end of the year.
On weekends, the family cleans the house together or visits grandparents. Sometimes, dad takes us to bookstores or fun parks to relax after a busy week of school.
My family is the source of warmth and love. No matter where I go, I always think about the home with my parents and little sister. This gives me the motivation to study harder every day.
