1. Lesson Plan on "Practicing: Choosing Word Order in Sentences" Number 4

2. Exercise "Practice: Choose the Correct Word Order in Sentences" No. 5
Question 1. This exercise asks you to determine the word order and the relationship between the activities and states represented by the bolded phrases in the textbook, page 122. How are they structured?
Specifically:
a) […] The phrase means that one must make every effort to explain, advocate, organize, lead, and ensure that the nationalistic spirit of all people is translated into concrete actions for national work and resistance.
The order of the words in this sentence reflects:
The sequence of actions to be taken.
The importance of each task.
b) […] It is said that my mother went to sell light bulbs, and in some markets, they also sold incense.
The word order in this sentence reflects:
A regular activity, which is listed first: selling light bulbs.
A less frequent task, which is listed afterward: selling incense.
Question 2. This task asks you to explain why the bolded phrases in the textbook (pages 112, 113) are placed at the beginning of the sentences.
Hint:
The bolded phrases are placed at the beginning of the sentences in the excerpts from the textbook (pages 122, 123) mainly for the purpose of repetition to connect with previous sentences. Additionally, they emphasize what needs to be conveyed: in phrase (a), this vocabulary (phrase b), there is also a buffalo and a basket of rice (phrase c), in those ten years and in that victory (phrase d).
Question 3. This exercise requires an analysis of the expressive effect of the word order in the bolded sentences in the textbook, page 123.
To do this, examine the arrangement of the bolded sentences: is it in a straightforward order, based on the characteristics of the subjects, or does it involve an inversion of word order?
Based on this, analyze the impact of that word order (as a rhetorical device).
a) Lom khom under the mountain, a few woodcutters
Lac dàc by the river, a market with some houses.
Remember the country with deep sorrow,
Miss the village, weary of talking.
The effect of this word order on the sentence is:
It emphasizes and highlights the images or states of the people and the scenery: bent down, scattered.
It also highlights the poet's emotions: longing for the country, missing home.
It vividly portrays the bright beauty of the scene.
The effect of the word order in this poem is to bring out the radiant beauty of the soldier in the sunset of the Northwest mountains.
Question 4. This task presents two requirements:
Identify the differences between the two sentences in the textbook, page 123.
Choose the appropriate sentence to fill in the blank in the passage from the textbook, page 124.
Both sentences share the same verb phrase, but in sentence (a), the subject comes first. In sentence (b), the subject-verb construction is inverted, and the adjective "respectfully" (indicating the manner of action) precedes the verb.
From this analysis, we conclude:
Sentence (a) follows a standard structure and narrates a witnessed event, without emphasizing any particular detail.
Sentence (b) inverts the order of words to emphasize the attitude or appearance of the subject in the dialogue.
After analyzing the difference, fill in the blank as follows:
Suddenly, the grasshoppers hopping around the grasshoppers stopped, moving aside. Then, in the shop, a quiet hush fell. I saw a mantis walking in, with a rather ordinary appearance, but somehow, he walked in such a pompous manner, lifting his legs as if he were stepping on the head of a goose, his attitude exuding arrogance.
Question 5. This task has two parts:
List the possible word order arrangements for the bolded section (the conclusion of the “Vietnamese Bamboo” essay by Thep Moi) in the textbook, page 124.
Compare the conclusion with the outline of the essay and explain why the author chose that particular word order.
The bolded sentence in the conclusion of the “Vietnamese Bamboo” essay by Thep Moi reads: (The bamboo is green, humble, upright, loyal, and courageous).
With the five adjectives green, humble, upright, loyal, and courageous, there are many possible word orders:
The bamboo is humble, green, upright, loyal, courageous.
The bamboo is humble, upright, green, loyal, courageous.
The bamboo is humble, upright, loyal, green, courageous.
The bamboo is upright, green, humble, loyal, courageous.
The bamboo is upright, humble, loyal, green, courageous.
The bamboo is upright, humble, loyal, courageous, green…
The author chose the word order: The bamboo is green, humble, upright, loyal, courageous because:
It effectively presents the qualities of the bamboo in the order the author intended.
The qualities are presented in the order from the most outward and obvious to the most internal, profound qualities.
Question 6. This task asks you to:
Write a short paragraph on one of the following topics:
a) The benefits of walking for health.
b) The benefits of walking for expanding your understanding of reality.
Then explain the word order in one sentence of your paragraph.

In sentence (b), the verb phrase has its adjunct in front, and the word 'dignified' (describing the manner of the action) is placed before the verb. Analyze the effect of each arrangement.
5. Exercise 5, page 124, Textbook.
Answer:
For the five words 'green', 'gentle', 'honest', 'loyal', and 'brave', there are many possible ways to arrange the word order. Walking is an excellent form of exercise for health. Firstly, we can mention how the natural development of the foot occurs as it moves gently on the ground. Beneath our feet, there are many important nerves that need to be properly relaxed, and walking is one of the best ways to achieve this relaxation. Unlike running or cycling, walking is slower and more rhythmic, allowing one to take in the full beauty of nature and gather a lot of useful information if one is observant.
