1. Quickly Take Your Child to the Doctor

2. Massage and encourage your child to move more
Massage is an excellent therapy for your child's health. It helps relax the baby, ease colic, and relieve constipation. For babies under 1 year: Gently rub their tummy 3-4 times a day, each for 4 minutes, to stimulate bowel movement. While massaging, you can play soft music; if the baby seems sleepy or tired, stop and try again later.
For older children, increase physical activity, such as running, playing, and exercising to strengthen the abdominal muscles and improve bowel function. However, avoid overexertion, as it could lead to injury due to the child’s still-developing body.

4. Ensure your child drinks enough water daily
Though it seems simple, many parents often wonder how much water is enough for their child each day.
For children of different ages, their water needs vary:
- For babies under 6 months, breastfed infants do not need additional water. However, to ensure they get enough hydration, mothers should drink 2.5 to 3 liters of water daily. If the baby is formula-fed and constipated, offer them 100-200 ml of water per day.
- For babies between 6 to 12 months: As they begin solid foods, it's important to provide 200-300 ml of water daily to avoid constipation.
- For toddlers aged 1-3 years: In addition to a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, they should drink 500-600 ml of water per day.
- For children aged 3-5 years: Due to their active play and learning, they need about 1000 ml of water daily to stay hydrated.
- For children over 10 years: They require 1.5 to 2 liters of water daily to maintain proper hydration.
- To monitor your child’s hydration, check the color of their urine. If it's dark yellow, they may be dehydrated and need more water.

5. Vegetables and Fruits - Essential for Your Child
Vegetables and fruits are rich in fiber, helping your child avoid constipation. Including them in your child's diet is very important:
- For children under 6 months: If breastfeeding exclusively, mothers should eat plenty of vegetables and foods like papaya, sweet potatoes, water spinach, bananas...
- For children 6 to 12 months: For babies who have started solids, provide them with vegetables and ripe fruits like leafy greens, pumpkin, zucchini, carrots, water spinach, sweet potatoes...
- For children over 1 year old: Instead of focusing on protein and fat-rich foods, mothers should offer more vegetables and fruits: Avocados, watermelon, pears, bananas... Avoid giving sour fruits like guava, sapodilla, and limit sugary snacks or carbonated drinks.

6. Teach Your Child to Use the Bathroom Regularly and on Time
Parents should focus on establishing a routine for their child to use the bathroom at regular times throughout the day. Avoid situations where your child is too engrossed in play and holds in their need to go. If they skip a day, they risk becoming constipated. Many children develop a fear of using the bathroom and may 'hold it in,' which worsens the constipation. For children attending preschool, parents should teach them how to signal or inform the teacher when they need to go. Additionally, it's important to familiarize your child with using bathroom facilities both at home, at school, and even at other people's homes.
Teaching your child to independently use the bathroom may be new for them, and they may have mixed reactions. However, with patience and gradual guidance, this process will become easier and help prevent constipation.
