I am Thạch Sanh, the king of the southern kingdom. When I was young, I had often fought to eliminate evil and protect the peace for the common people. However, the most significant and memorable victory for me was when I killed the giant monster.
At that time, I was just a young man with many aspirations. However, due to my trust in others, I was deceived by Lý Thông, a deceitful man who pretended to be my brother. I sincerely treated him as my sibling and did all the hard work at home. Yet, he viewed me only as a tool to cover for his own mistakes. One day, he asked me to guard the temple overnight while he prepared a batch of wine. Trusting him, I agreed to help. However, while guarding the temple, a giant monster appeared. It was enormous with sharp teeth, and when it opened its mouth, it emitted a foul odor.
Immediately, I recognized it as a dangerous creature that had previously devoured innocent people. Without hesitation, I used all my strength to fight it. The monster fiercely attacked me with its tail, but I was quick enough to dodge. Although it hit me a few times, causing bruises on my arms and legs, I did not waver in my determination to destroy it. Eventually, the opportunity came. I jumped onto its back, and before it could react, I severed its head. Though exhausted and injured, I felt immense satisfaction for protecting the people. When the sun rose, I proudly took the monster's head to show Lý Thông, only to find that he had betrayed me and stolen the glory.
Later, after enduring many hardships, I learned that Lý Thông had tricked me regarding the monster. But I forgave him. However, fate had its own justice. On his way home, a lightning bolt struck him and his mother, turning them into dung beetles. Truly, what goes around comes around.

2. Essay where Thạch Sanh recounts his victory over the giant monster number 5
Today, while checking the precious items I had stored in the vault, I came across the large golden bow and arrow. It was thanks to this bow and arrow that I managed to injure the giant eagle and rescue my wife, Princess Nguyệt Nga. The bow was not a gift from anyone, but rather a war trophy I earned after killing the giant monster, ridding the people of danger.
I still remember that time when I was just a young man, honest and kind-hearted. I was invited by a liquor merchant named Lý Thông to become sworn brothers. I moved into his house and did all the heavy chores for him. One day, Lý Thông asked me to watch over a temple for a night while he was busy brewing wine. Without any hesitation, I grabbed my axe and headed there. Upon arrival, I felt something strange about the temple—chilly, eerie, and unsettling. But since I had never been in a temple at night before, I brushed it off and found a corner to rest, laying my axe beside me and falling asleep. As I slept, I suddenly heard strange noises, as if a large creature was approaching. Immediately, I woke up, grabbed my axe, and stood watch.
From the darkness, two glowing red lanterns moved closer. As they entered the temple, I realized they were the eyes of a massive monster. It saw me and opened its mouth, roaring loudly to intimidate me. Any normal person would have been scared and fled, but I was different. The stench from its breath revealed that it had eaten many innocent people. Anger flared in my heart like a raging fire. Without a second thought, I charged at the monster with my axe. At first, it was startled by my attack, but quickly it roared and lunged at me. The collision knocked us both to the ground. After the crash, I realized that brute strength wouldn’t win this battle.
So, I pretended to attack to lure the monster deeper into the temple. The temple was filled with beams and columns, which made it hard for the giant creature to move. Taking advantage of this, I hid behind the pillars and struck at its weak spots. After a few attempts, the monster was near death. Without delay, I jumped on it and severed its head. To my surprise, from the wound, a heavy golden bow fell out. Overjoyed, I grabbed the bow and the monster’s head and rushed back home.
After that encounter, I faced many more dangers, but each time, I overcame them, defeating evil. Thanks to this, I married Princess Quỳnh Nga and inherited the throne.

Hello everyone, I am Thạch Sanh. Today, during my free time, I want to share with you the heroic feats of my youth. First, let me tell you about the time I defeated a giant monster - a vicious creature that devoured humans.
In truth, my encounter with the monster was entirely by chance. I didn’t seek it out due to its notorious reputation. To explain this, let me take you back several decades. Back then, I had a sworn brother named Lý Thông, whose family ran a liquor business. To brew the best wine, he often stayed up late to tend to the fire. As a result, I took on all the heavy tasks at his house. One evening, as usual, Lý Thông asked me to keep watch over a temple for the night while he was busy. I trusted him completely and agreed without hesitation. But that night, as I was deep in sleep, I suddenly heard strange noises and an awful smell. I woke up to find an enormous, hideous creature before me, like a giant serpent, with a wide open mouth oozing a vile substance. The foul stench came from its mouth. Despite my surprise, I was not afraid. Thoughts of innocent villagers who might fall victim to this beast filled me with an uncontrollable courage. Grabbing my trusty axe, I prepared to face the monster.
After a fierce struggle, I sustained some minor wounds, but they did nothing to deter my resolve. As I focused on the fight, I noticed the monster's weakness. Its massive size and clumsiness meant it couldn’t move quickly. I hid behind a large pillar, waiting for it to pass, then swiftly struck its neck, killing it. From the wound, a beautifully crafted golden bow fell out. Overjoyed, I grabbed the bow and the monster’s head and headed home, unaware that deceit awaited me there at the hands of Lý Thông and his mother.
It was getting late, so I will share more of my other adventures with you when I have time. Goodbye for now!

5. The Essay where Thạch Sanh recounts his victory over the giant eagle number 1
I am Thạch Sanh. Surely, everyone has heard of my story. Now, I have married Princess Quỳnh Nga and ascended the throne. Sometimes, I recall the memories of how I met my queen...
After hearing my sworn brother Lý Thông's advice to flee into the forest, I returned to my solitary life, without parents or family. One morning, armed with my bow and axe, I went hunting. Suddenly, I heard cries from above. Looking up, I was stunned to see a gigantic eagle carrying away a young woman. Without hesitation, I shot an arrow at its wing. It didn’t die, only wounded. Following the trail of blood, I tracked it to the eagle's lair. I intended to descend and rescue the girl, but the nest was too deep. Realizing that the eagle needed time to heal and that the girl was unharmed, I decided to return home and seek help from Lý Thông.
I learned that Lý Thông had become an official and was hosting a ten-day festival near the village. That day was the last of the event. I went to the festival, met him, and explained everything. He was thrilled and revealed that the girl the eagle had captured was none other than Princess Quỳnh Nga, the beloved daughter of the king. He boasted that the king had entrusted him with the mission of finding the princess and had opened the festival to gather information. He insisted I take him and his soldiers to the eagle's lair. I led them into the forest to the eagle's den.
When we arrived, Lý Thông and his soldiers were too afraid to descend. I told him to stay above and hold the rope while I climbed down. With a torch in hand, I ventured deep into the cave. There were two pathways, but I chose the central one. After walking for some time, I discovered a beautiful young woman locked in a large cage. Based on her regal appearance and elaborate dress, I immediately deduced she was the princess. She looked at me with surprise in her tear-filled eyes. I introduced myself as Thạch Sanh, here to rescue her. Following the princess's directions, I found the eagle’s chamber. She had known the way because she had tried to escape once but failed.
The beast was lying on a large rock, looking painfully injured. Upon spotting me, it rose and attacked. This ancient creature, having lived for years, had acquired magical powers. After a fierce battle, I struck it down with an arrow to the neck. I hurried back to the princess, used my axe to break the chains, and freed her. Upon exiting the cave, I called to Lý Thông to lower the rope. But once the princess was out, Lý Thông cut the rope and blocked the entrance with stones, trapping me inside...
The rest of the story is well known to all. I no longer wish to dwell on it. In the end, justice prevailed, the villain was punished, and the queen and I live happily together. Truly, "evil deeds meet with evil consequences."

6. A Story from Thạch Sanh's Perspective: The Battle Against the Chằn Tinh - Part 2
I was once a prince in the heavenly realms, but my father, the king, wanted me to experience life as a mortal to grow wiser. He sent me down to Earth to live a life different from the comforts of heaven. I became Thạch Sanh, born into a poor family of woodcutters. Though we had little, my parents showered me with love and care. But tragically, when I was just ten, I lost both of them and became an orphan living alone in a remote mountain village. My inheritance was a broken hut and an axe to survive. Despite the hardships, I never gave up. Instead, I worked hard to grow into a strong, healthy young man.
My life was hard, yet it would have continued that way if I hadn't met Lí Thông, a man who traded liquor. Seeing my strength, he decided to use me for his own gain. He pretended to be my brother and took me in, but I was too lonely to notice his ulterior motives. Soon, his true nature became clear as he tricked me into taking his place before a shrine where a serpent demon demanded a young man every three months. I stood guard that night, and a massive serpent appeared, attacking me. Undeterred, I fought and killed it, returning with its head. Lí Thông was shocked, pretending the serpent was the king's pet, and suggested I flee. He then claimed the reward for himself.
Unaware of his deception, I returned to my humble hut. A few days later, I heard a woman's scream. Looking up, I saw a giant eagle carrying her off. I followed the eagle to its nest, fought and killed the bird, and rescued the girl. It turned out she was the princess. Lí Thông, who had arrived too, said whoever rescued her would be handsomely rewarded, but he tricked me again. Fortunately, I still saved the princess. In the end, Lí Thông's wickedness was punished, and he got what he deserved.
Later, when the king's army was under threat from foreign invaders, I was given the task of leading the defense. Using a magical instrument from the king's sea god, I disabled the enemy's will to fight. After our victory, I treated the enemy soldiers to a magical feast that never ran out, earning their respect. From then on, the princess and I lived happily ever after.

7. A Story from Thạch Sanh's Perspective: The Battle Against the Chằn Tinh - Part 3
For a long time, I lived in my small world, believing that life was beautiful and fair. But I was wrong. My life took a sharp turn the moment I met Lí Thông, a man I thought was a true brother, only to discover his hidden malice and deceit. It was my trust in him that led me into countless traps, including the life-threatening encounter with the giant chằn tinh. This was the consequence of blindly believing in someone who pretended to be my friend.
Many of you might wonder why someone like me, who was so easily deceived, possessed extraordinary strength and courage to face the terrifying chằn tinh that had claimed so many lives. The truth is, my strength comes from my divine heritage. I was born a prince in the heavens, but my father wanted me to experience the hardships of the mortal world. He sent me down to Earth, where I was born to poor woodcutters. My life was peaceful for a while, living in my parents' love, but it was short-lived. When they passed away, I became an orphan and had to struggle to survive.
My life would have stayed the same if not for Lí Thông, a man driven by greed and deceit. He saw my goodness, my strong body, and decided to use me for his gain. With sweet words, he tricked me into becoming his brother, and I naively followed him to help him make money.
Thanks to my hard work, Lí Thông and his mother became rich quickly. But fate cannot be escaped. It was only a matter of time before Lí Thông's treachery caught up with him. He used his cunning to deceive me once again, asking me to take his place at the shrine where the chằn tinh demanded a sacrifice. I believed his excuses and agreed to help. That night, as I stood guard at the shrine, the chằn tinh appeared. It was a fierce battle, but I managed to defeat the beast and return with its head, taking a golden bow and arrows as trophies.
When I returned, I was shocked to see the fear in Lí Thông and his mother's eyes. They were terrified, as though they had seen a ghost. After I recounted my victory, Lí Thông lied, claiming the beast I killed was the king's pet, and advised me to run away to avoid being punished. I believed him and retreated to my old, humble hut in the mountains to live in solitude.
My life has been filled with storms, but in the end, I found happiness. I married Princess Quỳnh Nga and became a king, living a joyful life. As for Lí Thông, his deceit caught up with him, and he was struck down by lightning, paying the price for his treachery.
