1. Removing Liquid Stains from the Mattress
Accidents happen, and sometimes liquids like chocolate, tea, or coffee can stain your mattress. Each type of liquid stain requires a different cleaning method.
Coffee Stains
The dark color of coffee is easy to spot on a mattress. As soon as a coffee spill occurs, blot the excess liquid with a clean paper towel.
Then, sprinkle a gentle laundry powder onto the stained area and allow it to dry. Once dry, wipe it off with a soft cloth.
Tea Stains
If tea is spilled, start by blotting the excess with a sponge.
Next, dissolve 15g of borax in 1 liter of hot water and use a soft cloth to clean the stain.
Finish by wiping the area with a damp cloth and drying it with a fan.
Chocolate Stains
Allow the chocolate to dry naturally, then scrape it off.
Next, mix warm water with a small amount of mild soap or dishwashing liquid to clean the surface.
Finally, wipe the area with a damp cloth and let it air dry.

2. Drying the Mattress
After thoroughly cleaning, you should air out the mattress for a while to let any remaining moisture dry. If water gets trapped inside, it may lead to mold, which can be difficult to clean. If the weather is warm, open the windows to let fresh air flow into the room, which will help dry the mattress faster. You can also open the curtains and blinds to let in sunlight, as the UV rays will eliminate mold and bacteria, helping to completely remove any unpleasant odors and speed up the drying process.

3. Replacing Bed Sheets and Mattress Covers
Once the cleaning process is complete, you can put clean sheets on the mattress, starting with the fitted sheet, followed by the top sheet. Insert pillows into pillowcases, place the pillows, decorations, and the mattress back onto the bed. Before making the bed, run your hand over the mattress once more to check if it is still damp. If you put sheets and blankets on a wet mattress, it will remain damp and could lead to mold and bacteria growth, which is harmful to your health.

4. Mattress Care
Rotate or flip the mattress regularly: For mattresses that don’t have a top or bottom, it’s recommended to flip them every 3 to 6 months. This ensures that the mattress wears evenly over time.
- Mattress protector: To keep your mattress clean and protected from damage, you can encase it in a protective cover similar to a duvet cover, then zip it up. This will prevent water, dirt, and bedbugs from affecting the mattress and will make future cleaning much easier.
- Change the bed sheets frequently, and maintain a clean and well-ventilated bedroom to avoid excessive mattress washing.
- Always keep the mattress dry. If it becomes wet, dry it immediately to prevent the growth of mold.
- Establish a regular cleaning schedule for vacuuming and washing the mattress to keep it in excellent condition. If possible, expose the mattress to sunlight every few months to prevent moisture buildup and eliminate any unpleasant odors.
- Open the bedroom windows regularly to let fresh air in and allow sunlight to shine on the mattress, helping to prevent the growth of harmful microorganisms.
