Trọng Thủy then tricked Mị Châu into showing him the magical crossbow, only to steal it and take it back to his father. When Triệu Đà launched another invasion, An Dương Vương lost the crossbow and was defeated. He fled to the East Sea with Mị Châu. In desperation, the king called out to the Golden Turtle, who warned him that the enemy was behind him. Upon hearing this, An Dương Vương killed Mị Châu by stabbing her with his sword and then plunged into the sea. Mị Châu’s body later transformed into a precious jade, and Trọng Thủy, grieving his wife’s death, jumped into a well and took his own life. Over time, water from this well, when used to cleanse the jade, would make it shine brightly.

An Dương Vương (ADV) was the king of the ancient Lạc Việt kingdom. He built a fortress, but no matter how much he worked, it would collapse. Eventually, with the help of the Golden Turtle, the fortress was completed. The Turtle also gave the king a claw to create a divine bow. When the invader Triệu Đà arrived, ADV used the divine bow to defeat him. Subsequently, Triệu Đà sought peace and proposed a marriage between his son, Trọng Thủy, and ADV's daughter, Mị Châu. ADV agreed and allowed Trọng Thủy to live as a son-in-law. During this time, Trọng Thủy deceived Mị Châu and stole the divine bow. He returned to his homeland with the weapon. Later, Triệu Đà launched another invasion, and despite having the divine bow, ADV casually played chess. This led to the fall of his kingdom. When fleeing with Mị Châu to the sea, the Golden Turtle reappeared and warned that the man behind her was an enemy. Upon hearing this, ADV tragically killed Mị Châu and then jumped into the sea. Mị Châu's body transformed into a pearl, and Trọng Thủy, heartbroken by the loss, threw himself into a well and drowned. Legend says that washing the pearl in the well water will make it shine brighter.

An Dương Vương was the king of the Âu Lạc kingdom. He attempted to build a fortress, but faced numerous failures. With the assistance of the Golden Turtle, he finally succeeded in constructing the fortress and crafted a divine bow to protect the kingdom. Triệu Đà repeatedly attacked but failed, eventually resorting to trickery: he sought the hand of Mị Châu, An Dương Vương's daughter, for his son, Trọng Thủy. Trọng Thủy moved into the palace as a son-in-law and secretly stole the divine bow. Triệu Đà launched a second invasion, and trusting in the divine bow, An Dương Vương became overconfident and lost his kingdom. In desperation, he fled with Mị Châu toward the Eastern Sea, calling for the Golden Turtle’s help. Following the Turtle's advice, An Dương Vương tragically killed Mị Châu with his sword, before plunging into the sea with the Turtle. Mị Châu’s body sank into the ocean, and her blood turned into pearls. Trọng Thủy, devastated by her loss, threw himself into a well and died. Legends say that washing pearls in the well water makes them shine even brighter.

With the help of the Golden Turtle, the construction was completed, and the king fashioned a divine bow to safeguard his land. When Triệu Đà invaded, he was defeated by the power of the divine bow. However, Triệu Đà eventually sought peace, asking to marry his son, Trọng Thủy, to An Dương Vương’s daughter, Mị Châu. An Dương Vương agreed, and Trọng Thủy moved into the palace. During his stay, Trọng Thủy tricked Mị Châu into handing over the divine bow, which he took back to his homeland. Triệu Đà then launched a second invasion, confident that with the divine bow in his hands, An Dương Vương would still be invincible. However, An Dương Vương, trusting the weapon too much, was careless and lost the kingdom. In his final moments, he fled with Mị Châu to the sea, where the Golden Turtle appeared, revealing that Mị Châu’s companion was the enemy. In a tragic act, An Dương Vương killed Mị Châu and then disappeared into the ocean. Mị Châu’s body turned into a pearl, while Trọng Thủy, filled with sorrow, took his own life in a well. Later, people discovered that washing pearls in the water from the well made them gleam even more brightly.

King An Dương Vương of Âu Lạc worked tirelessly to build a fortress, but each attempt collapsed. Distressed, he conducted a ritual, and an old man foretold that help would come from Thanh Giang. The Golden Turtle assisted in completing the fortress. The king was still worried about how to protect it, so the Turtle gave him a claw to fashion into a divine bow. This bow led to numerous victories over Triệu Đà's forces. Seeking peace, Triệu Đà proposed marriage between his son, Trọng Thủy, and An Dương Vương’s daughter, Mị Châu. The two fell deeply in love, but Trọng Thủy secretly stole the divine bow and took it back to his father. When An Dương Vương discovered the betrayal, he lost his fortress and fled with Mị Châu, leaving a trail of goose feathers behind. When they reached the sea, the Golden Turtle appeared and accused Mị Châu. An Dương Vương, in grief and anger, drew his sword and killed her. Before she died, Mị Châu made a final prayer. Her body transformed into jade, and any clam or oyster that consumed her blood turned into precious pearls. Trọng Thủy, heartbroken, buried her remains, and later took his own life by jumping into a well. The water from the well, when mixed with the pearls from the sea, became known for its ability to make the gems shine brighter, called the great and small pearls.

Seizing the chance, Triệu Đà sent his son, Trọng Thủy, to marry Mị Châu, the daughter of An Dương. Over time, Trọng Thủy earned her trust and learned the secret of the magical bow. On the pretext of visiting his father, he stole the bow and delivered it to Triệu Đà. Armed with this new weapon, Triệu Đà launched another attack on Âu Lạc. An Dương, confident in the power of the magical bow, underestimated the danger and did not take the invasion seriously. When the bow failed to work, An Dương's forces were defeated. As the enemy advanced, An Dương fled with Mị Châu towards the sea. However, wherever they went, the enemy followed. The turtle god Kim Quy appeared, revealing that the enemy was already close. An Dương, in a fit of rage, drew his sword and killed Mị Châu before throwing himself into the sea to end his life. Heartbroken, Trọng Thủy, filled with regret, also took his life by jumping into a well, which is now known as the Well of Trọng Thủy. It is said that when Mị Châu died, her blood flowed into the sea, and the pearls born from it could only be found by men who consumed them. The pearls, when washed in the well water, would shine with a strange radiance.

Once he gained Mị Châu's trust, Trọng Thủy asked her about the magical bow. He then used the excuse of visiting his father to steal the bow. Armed with it, Triệu Đà launched another attack on Âu Lạc. Despite the enemy's advance, King An Dương remained calm and continued playing chess. However, when the magical bow failed to work, Âu Lạc's forces were defeated. An Dương fled with Mị Châu towards the East Sea. The enemy pursued them, and the turtle god Kim Quy revealed that the enemy was nearby. In a fit of rage, An Dương killed Mị Châu with his sword, then threw himself into the sea to end his life. Filled with regret, Trọng Thủy also took his own life.

Trọng Thủy was the son of Triệu Đà. After several failed invasions of Âu Lạc, Triệu Đà decided to seek peace by sending his son to marry Mị Châu, the daughter of King An Dương, with the goal of learning the secrets of the enemy's magical bow. Once he gained her trust, Trọng Thủy tricked Mị Châu into revealing the secret and stole the bow to take back to his father. Before leaving, Trọng Thủy asked Mị Châu what she would do if war broke out between their nations. Mị Châu suggested they scatter goose feathers to mark their paths. With the power of the magical bow, Triệu Đà defeated An Dương's army. As Mị Châu and her father fled towards the East Sea, Trọng Thủy followed the trail of feathers. Upon finding Mị Châu’s body by the sea, he mourned her loss. While bathing, Trọng Thủy saw Mị Châu’s reflection in a well and, in his despair, threw himself into the well, ending his life. It is said that later generations, upon finding pearls formed from Mị Châu's blood, would wash them in the well water, making them shine brightly and beautifully.
