The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is a public research university located in Sha Tin, Hong Kong. It was officially founded in 1963 by a university ordinance granted by the Hong Kong Legislative Council. It is the second oldest university in Hong Kong and originated as a federation of three established institutions: the Shing Kwan College, the New Asia College, and the United College, with the earliest of these institutions dating back to 1949.

CUHK operates as a multi-disciplinary institution with nine colleges and eight faculties. It is the only university in Hong Kong that conducts both English and Chinese language programs, although most courses are taught in English. Gradually, funding increased and the university relocated to its new campus in Kowloon Tong, established in 1956 with support from the Ford Foundation.

Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) is a public research university located in Hung Hom, Hong Kong. Its origins trace back to 1937, and it became a fully recognized university in 1994, making it one of the government-funded institutions offering degree programs.

Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) is a public university focused on liberal arts education, with a rich Christian educational heritage. Originally established as the Hong Kong Baptist College, the university received support from American Baptists who provided both funding and personnel in the early years of its founding.

HKBU became a public institution in 1983 and was officially granted university status in 1994 under the leadership of Dr. Daniel Tse Chi Wai, LLD, GBS, CBE, JP, who succeeded the founding chairman, Dr. Lam Chi-Mush.
