Đông La Elementary School, originally known as Hoàng Văn Thụ Primary School, was established in 1959 with two main classrooms located in Bế Hamlet (now part of Đồng Nhân Hamlet). Additional classes were held in local churches, communal houses, temples, and private homes. In 1965, four new classrooms were built in the Vườn Chùa area of Đông Lao Village, and two more classrooms were added by repurposing a weaving house in La Tinh Village. By 1975-1976, the school merged with the local secondary school. In 1986, it was separated from the Đông La Basic Education School under Decision No. 806/QĐ-UBND dated August 11, 1986, though it continued to share facilities with the secondary school. During the 2000-2001 academic year, eight new classrooms and an administrative building were constructed in Đồng Nhân Village, finally allowing the two schools to operate independently.

With support from the Party, local authorities, and the community, the school began construction on a new 14,750m² site in Đông Lao Village in 2010. By 2012-2013, all students moved to the new facility, which included 30 classrooms, 4 specialized rooms, and 16 functional rooms.

Over its more than half-century of development, Đông La Elementary School has overcome numerous challenges to fulfill its educational mission. In the 1967-1968 academic year, the school was honored to host a visit from the Deputy Minister of Education to observe its renowned Nguyễn Tất Thành shared library model, which gained widespread recognition across Northern Vietnam.
