1. Mid-Autumn Festival Program Script for Primary School (No. 4)
1. Declaration of Purpose and Introduction of Guests
Dear distinguished guests!
Dear teachers and beloved students!
Once again, the Mid-Autumn Festival is upon us, a special time eagerly awaited by children. It's a time for vibrant celebrations—lantern processions lighting up the streets, the rhythmic beats of dragon dances, and the sweet melody of children's songs as they gather around large offerings of mooncakes, fruits, and other treats.
In Vietnam, the Mid-Autumn Festival is often associated with the story of the Moon Goddess, and families typically set up altars under the bright moon to offer thanks to the heavens. Whether the origins of the festival are foreign or local, it has long been woven into the fabric of Vietnamese culture. Historically, it was a time for people to pray for favorable weather and abundant harvests. Today, it is celebrated as Children's Day, a moment for parents to show their love and care for their children. And each year, children eagerly anticipate the chance to enjoy the festivities. On this occasion, the teachers and students of XX Primary School have gathered together to celebrate this special festival. We express our heartfelt gratitude to the parents and distinguished guests for attending our Mid-Autumn Festival Arts Night, 'Joyful Moon Night' at XX Primary School!
In Vietnam, after the success of the August Revolution, the Mid-Autumn Festival has become a nationwide celebration for children. President Ho Chi Minh, who always held a deep affection for young people, used to send touching letters to children during the festival, including these heartfelt lines:
'The Mid-Autumn moon shines like a mirror
President Ho looks at the scene, fondly remembering the children
Here, he writes a few words
To send to the children, showing his love and care'
As we celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival tonight, we remember President Ho Chi Minh. It is a great honor to welcome our distinguished guests here for the 'Joyful Moon Night' Arts Performance at XX Primary School.
On behalf of the school, I would like to introduce our honored guests. (Introduce the guests)
The school is also pleased to welcome representatives from the parents' association, leaders of local educational units, as well as our dedicated staff and enthusiastic students. Let's give them a warm welcome!

2. Mid-Autumn Festival Program Script for Primary School (No. 5)
I. Cuội, Hằng, and Bờm's Entrance
Cuội steps out, surprised:
Oh! Why are there so many children today? Do you kids know who I am? Who am I? Who, tell me?
Ah, that's right, I am Cuội!!! Wait for me a moment, kids! I wonder where Hằng is? (Checks his watch, takes out his iPhone and calls Hằng.)
Hey! Hằng, is there traffic again? Huhu
Huhu, Hằng won’t play with me! Huhu (sitting down crying)
Hằng appears:
Cuội, what's wrong? Why are you crying? (Looking at the kids): Don’t cry now, kids, look, Cuội is crying! Stop crying, and I’ll take you to Earth.
Cuội: What will we do on Earth, sister?
Hằng: We’re going to Earth to celebrate “Mid-Autumn Festival” with the children, Cuội!
Cuội: Oh, that sounds fun! So we’ll be playing with the kids, right sister?
Hằng: Yes, we will play games and break mooncakes together...
Cuội: Wonderful! Let me call Bờm to join us!
(Cuội looks to the audience): Do you kids know Bờm?
Let’s give a big round of applause to welcome Bờm! (Bờm, dressed humorously, walks in an amusing way). Bờm (holding a lollipop): Do you kids want to hear a song? Well, Bờm, Hằng, and Cuội will sing a song for you, “Two Little Lizards.”
II. Announcements and Guest Introductions
Cuội: Dear children, every year during the Mid-Autumn Festival, from the farthest villages to the bustling streets of cities, children eagerly light lanterns and celebrate.
Hằng: In celebration of this joy, today, the grandparents and parents of the elementary school, along with my moon palace, Cuội and I, are organizing a “Full Moon Festival” for the well-behaved, studious, and beautiful children of the school. Do you kids like that?
Cuội and Hằng: We are honored to introduce the esteemed guests of today’s event. (Introducing the guests).
Alongside them, we have the presence of parents and children in the large hall. Let’s give them a huge round of applause to begin our program!
Hằng: Dear children, as President Hồ taught us:
“Children are like buds on a tree. Knowing how to eat, sleep, and study is being good.”
So, which kids here have been eating well, sleeping soundly, studying hard, and are praised by their grandparents, parents, and teachers? Raise your hand so I can see!
Cuội: Wow, so many hands! It shows that our children are following Uncle Hồ's teachings well, right? And I know a secret, Hằng. In the past year, two students from the Literature Department have done exceptionally well in their studies. Do you know who they are?
Hằng: Oh, I don’t know. Cuội, tell me and the children who they are.
Cuội: Well, these two students have worked very hard and excelled despite challenges. Do you think they deserve a prize?
Hằng: Let’s now welcome ... to present gifts to these two students to honor their perseverance in study. Please come up to the stage to receive your rewards.
Cuội: Thank you so much. Dear children, always listen to your grandparents and parents and study hard. If you are good and study well, next Mid-Autumn Festival, Hằng, Bờm, and I will give out lots of prizes to you. Do you agree?
Games and Mooncake Breaking
Hằng: Dear children! Now the moon has risen high in the sky. Let’s break the mooncakes, eat candy, and play some games!
First, we’ll enjoy some wonderful performances by the children in today’s program.
Performance 1: The Mid-Autumn Festival brings the sound of lion drums everywhere, just as the song “Mid-Autumn Night” by Xuân Thu expresses the cheerful mood of this festival, with drum beats, lion dance, and golden moonlight. Now, let’s welcome the school’s choir to perform. A big round of applause for them!
We just enjoyed a beautiful song. To make the festival even livelier, let’s now watch a dance performance, “Rock the Moon,” by the children.
Cuội: You just listened to songs and watched dances. Now, do you kids want to play games? Before we start the main games, let’s play a warm-up game! When I shout: Where’s the paper? Where’s the paper?, you’ll shout: Here it is! And when I say: Rip the paper, you’ll shout: Rip it!
(Let’s play a warm-up game). (During the break, two children sing while preparing the blindfolded game).
Game 1: Blindfolded Pot-Smashing
Hằng: Our first game is blindfolded pot-smashing. I’ll hang four pots high, and the children will be blindfolded. Whoever smashes a pot will win. Cuội, show them how it’s done. (Cuội demonstrates).
Cuội: Now, I’ll invite five children to participate in this game. Whoever hits a pot will receive a special prize from the program. (Invites children to raise their hands and introduces them). After the game ends, everyone will receive a gift.
Hằng: After the game, we’ll enjoy another dance performance from the kids... The moon has always shone brightly on Mid-Autumn night, and the story of Cuội and Hằng is tied to the golden moon. With the innocence of childhood, the children from class ... will perform the dance, “The Legendary Moon.” Please enjoy.
Did the dancers do a good job? Let’s give them a big round of applause! Now, let me ask you, kids, what is the bright and soft light we see on Mid-Autumn Night that’s different from the sun? (The moon) That’s right! Do you know how old the moon is? (No) Let’s find out as we listen to the song “The Moon’s Age,” composed by Trịnh Vĩnh Thành.
Game 2: Guess the Fairy Tale Character
Hằng: Let’s move on to our second game! Raise your hand if you like listening to or reading fairy tales! Ah, it looks like you all love fairy tales and fairy tale characters. This next game is all about them!
Cuội: I’ll describe five fairy tale characters’ traits or fates, and the children have to guess which character it is. Ready?
Hằng: Let me start with a question for you. Which fairy tale character always cries under a banyan tree on the moon? (The children answer). That’s right, it’s Cuội, who sits under the banyan tree calling his ox and lamenting his fate. (Cuội pouts).
Hằng: Don’t worry, Cuội, I was just teasing! I’m just explaining the game to the kids. Now, do you kids understand how to play? Let’s begin. If you know the answer, raise your hand.
Which fairy tale character was born with no arms or legs, just a round body with eyes and a mouth, who rolled around herding cows for a rich man, then married his daughter? (Sọ Dừa)
Which fairy tale character’s song goes: Bống bống bang bang, Bống eats gold and silver rice, don’t eat plain rice from others’ homes? (Cô Tấm)
Which character plays a magical lute that sings: The lute plays “Tic-tic, tang-tang, who will bring the princess back from the cave?” and has a pot of rice that never runs out? (Thạch Sanh)
Which character’s story is tied to a watermelon and a legend? (Mai An Tiêm)
Cuội: We’ve just played a fun and educational game guessing fairy tale characters. Now, let’s enjoy a duet performance from ... (After singing, they interact with the child and give them a gift).
Game 3: Dance to the Music
Cuội: Our children are so smart: they know all about our folk tales and were quick to solve the riddles. Now, let’s test their agility with a dance game.
Hằng: How do we play this one, Cuội?
Cuội: Oh, this game is a lot of fun. We’ll invite five kids to join us. When they come up, we’ll play music, and they have to dance, making up their own unique moves. When the music stops, they must freeze in their pose. If they keep dancing after the music stops, they lose. The winner will get prizes at the end of the game. Oh, Cuội, you’re so good at this. Do you kids like it? Now, let’s invite five kids to join in. Who loves to dance?
At the end of the game, we’ll give out prizes to the winners.
III. Conclusion
Cuội: Dear children, this Mid-Autumn Festival has been so meaningful for Hằng, Bờm, and me. We’ve enjoyed this beautiful celebration with you all. The golden moon is calling us. It’s time to say goodbye, but I’m so sad.
Hằng: Oh Cuội, we must be happy. Why are you crying? To make this meaningful “Full Moon Festival” program happen, we must express our gratitude to ... who made it possible for us to organize this joyous night.
Cuội: But I wanted to go lantern walking with the kids!
Hằng: Of course! Before Cuội returns to the banyan tree and I go play with the moon rabbit, let’s sing a joyful song, give gifts, and take the kids lantern walking to enjoy the moon. Do you kids want to sing along with me? We’ll sing “The Star Lantern” together. I’ll start the song. Kids, sing loud because after we finish, Cuội, Hằng, and Bờm will give you all a gift. Ready? 1…2…3…(singing)

In some places, they also organize lion and dragon dances to let the children play freely.

If you want to eat rice in May,
Look at the full moon in August.
Chị Hằng: Now that we all know the meaning of the Mid-Autumn Festival and the custom of dancing and singing under the moon, let’s sing a song together...
Cuội: Hello children, today I’ve brought many gifts for you. Who wants to receive a gift? Raise your hands high! Is that all? Let’s try again: Who wants a gift from Cuội and Hằng? Children: Moon Lady Hang, come join us and play!!!
Hang Nga: Hello to all the little friends at the kindergarten...(Moon Lady Hang appears, flying gently).
Children: We greet you, Moon Lady Hang!
Hang Nga: Today is the 15th of the 8th lunar month, Mid-Autumn Festival. I’ve come down to join you in the celebration. Now, let’s welcome a friend from the moon!
Uncle Cuoi (Walks in)
Children: (Recite a nursery rhyme)
“Uncle Cuoi sits under the banyan tree
Calling the cows to eat rice, oh my dear
Father still cuts grass in the sky
Mother rides a horse inviting guests
Grandfather holds the pen and ink
Grandfather holds the money to redeem the banyan leaves.”
Uncle Cuoi: Hello, everyone! There are many children here, and even Moon Lady Hang has joined us. I heard that at XX Kindergarten, the children are not only well-behaved and smart, but also sing and dance beautifully?
Moon Lady Hang: That's right! And now, let’s watch the performances from the senior classes of our school!
3. Mid-Autumn Music Performance
Uncle Cuoi: Kicking off the arts program is a dance to the song “Em Đi Xem Hội Trăng Rằm.” This gentle and soothing song paints a picture of a small girl in a four-piece dress, joyfully dancing under the full moon, shyly smiling at the boys her age. A popular song by the overseas Vietnamese musician Sao Mai Nguyễn Nghị, "Em Đi Xem Hội Trăng Rằm" has lyrics that are simple, cute, and so charming that even the moon seems to lean in to catch a glimpse, while the whole world is enchanted by the image of the girl dressed in elegant clothes walking among the crowd at the moon festival.
Please enjoy the dance performance from our class's arts team...
Moon Lady Hang: After waiting for so long, the full moon night of Mid-Autumn has finally arrived.
"The moon is like a mother's hat - floating gently in front of the house
The moon is like a ball - tossed up into the sky
The moon is like a ripe fruit - sweetly given to grandma …"
The full moon of Mid-Autumn has come, bringing joy and laughter to childhood. Let’s continue with the next performance, “The Loving Moon,” presented by the class’s arts team!
Uncle Cuoi: Whenever we hear the children in the neighborhood sing the song “Chiếc Đèn Ông Sao” (The Star Lantern), we know that Mid-Autumn is approaching. From every corner of the streets, the familiar rhythm of the drumbeat echoes, and each time this song plays, everyone can feel the joyful, eager atmosphere. Even after more than half a century, “Chiếc Đèn Ông Sao” by composer Phạm Tuyên remains an essential tune in every Mid-Autumn celebration. Let’s enjoy the duet performance of the song “Chiếc Đèn Ông Sao” by the duo...
We will also introduce a few games and other performances.
4. Closing of the Program
Host: Every time the full moon of the 8th month comes, we remind ourselves of the legends of Uncle Cuoi and Moon Lady Hang... Our joy as children is that the moon always keeps its promise. Following the marvelous cycle of nature, the moon continues to shine brightly across the sky. Our joy as children is to celebrate Mid-Autumn with lantern processions, and to receive special mooncakes on this festive day.
The joy of children is also in watching lion dances and dancing to the rhythm of the lion dance drums. May all the children always preserve the innocence, simplicity, and purity of their childhood. Even as we grow up and no longer are children, may our hearts always remain peaceful and joyful, with smiles as bright as today! I wish for everyone’s hearts to be as beautiful as the full moon, and for life to be as sweet as the mooncakes of Mid-Autumn!
And now, let’s proceed to the mooncake cutting ceremony for tonight’s celebration! (Play background music, Uncle Cuoi playing with the moon) I invite the class representatives to bring the cakes from their tables to the designated spots for the celebration and enjoy the Mid-Autumn Festival together. During the mooncake cutting, let’s all watch the unique lion dance performance once more!

5. Opening speech for the Mid-Autumn Festival program at Primary School (Version 8)
Esteemed delegates!
Dear teachers and beloved students!
Today, in the joyful and festive atmosphere of children across the country celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival, the administration of XX Primary School, in collaboration with local authorities, is organizing a meaningful Mid-Autumn celebration for our young students. On behalf of the school administration and local officials, I would like to wish the distinguished guests and all the children health, happiness, and a memorable Mid-Autumn evening.
Dear delegates, honored guests, teachers, and beloved students!
The Mid-Autumn Festival has arrived, filling the air with the delightful fragrance of traditional mooncakes, while the star-shaped lanterns light up the innocent eyes of our children. Indeed, Mid-Autumn, for children, is a pure and innocent time, with kids joyfully running through the neighborhood holding their lanterns, the drumbeats filling the air, though they may not follow a rhythm, the children's laughter fills the streets with excitement and joy.
Dear students of XX Primary School!
While celebrating this Mid-Autumn Festival, let us not forget our duty to study. In the letter sent by President Ho Chi Minh to students across the country during the first school year of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in 1945, he wrote: “Whether Vietnam's rivers and mountains become glorious or not, whether the Vietnamese people stand side by side with the great powers of the world, depends largely on your efforts in study.” Therefore, we must work hard and strive to excel in our studies, making our teachers, parents, and the whole nation proud.
Dear children, this Mid-Autumn Festival, although we have tried our best, we may not have been able to organize a grand, fully decorated celebration for you. However, everything we do comes from the love and care from your teachers, parents, local officials, and kind-hearted people. We hope that you will have a joyful and meaningful evening.
Program highlights:
Performance 1: Star-shaped Lantern (Duet)
Whenever we hear the children in the neighborhood singing “Star-shaped Lantern,” we all know that Mid-Autumn is near. The familiar sound of the drums beats from every corner of the streets, and as this song plays, the lively atmosphere and excitement are felt by everyone. Despite being more than half a century old, “Star-shaped Lantern” by composer Pham Tuyen has remained an essential part of every Mid-Autumn celebration. Please welcome the duet performance of “Star-shaped Lantern” by two children...
Performance 2: Lantern Procession (Solo)
Whether in the past or present, the lantern procession is always one of the most anticipated and delightful activities of the Mid-Autumn Festival. The sight of children carrying lanterns of every color, in shapes like butterflies, swans, star-shaped lanterns, or goldfish, always brings joy to everyone. These images are brought to life in the song “Lantern Procession.” Tonight, we will enjoy this performance through the beautiful voice of one child...
Performance 3, Performance 4,...
Esteemed delegates!
Dear teachers and beloved students!
The joy of children during Mid-Autumn is often accompanied by the lion dance, where they joyfully dance to the rhythm of the lion dance drums. May the innocence, simplicity, and joy of childhood always remain in your hearts, no matter how much you grow, and may you always carry a bright, cheerful spirit as you do today! We wish that your hearts will forever shine as brightly as the full moon, and may life be as sweet as the Mid-Autumn mooncakes! And now, let’s enjoy the traditional mooncake-breaking ceremony of today’s celebration! (Cue music: “Chu Cuoi Plays with the Moon”).
Now, I invite representatives from each class to bring their class’s mooncake tray to the stage to begin the mooncake-breaking ceremony. During this time, we also invite all the distinguished guests, teachers, and students to enjoy the special lion dance performance.
