1. Garlic
According to traditional medicine, garlic has a spicy taste, warm properties, and is known to promote the flow of energy, warm the stomach, detoxify, and disinfect. It is commonly used to treat ailments such as bloating, indigestion, digestive disorders, abdominal pain from cold, swelling, diarrhea, dysentery, malaria, whooping cough, boils, chronic ulcers, hair loss, dandruff, snake bites, and more. Additionally, garlic functions similarly to an antibiotic, making it an effective remedy for treating pityriasis versicolor.
Method: Peel and crush the garlic, ensuring it is finely crushed but not chopped, as this helps maintain its healing properties. Then, apply the crushed garlic to the affected skin area. Leave it on for approximately 30 minutes before rinsing it off with clean water. For optimal results, repeat this process 2–3 times a day. However, since garlic has a warming effect, patients should adjust the quantity used to avoid skin irritation.


2. Grapefruit Peel
Grapefruit peel contains essential oils and has a cooling, refreshing property with antioxidant effects, making it effective against some of the fungi causing pityriasis versicolor. To use grapefruit peel for this purpose, follow these steps:
- Take a fresh piece of grapefruit peel and wash off any dirt.
- Extract the essential oil by squeezing it with your hands and apply it to the affected skin area.
- Rinse your skin with clean water.
- Repeat 2–3 times a day.
Note: The essential oils from grapefruit peel may cause a stinging or tingling sensation when applied to the skin. If the sensation does not subside and the skin becomes red or shows signs of an allergic reaction, consider switching to a safer alternative.


3. Treating Ringworm with Alum
Alum is a crystalline salt that dissolves easily in water and typically appears as a slightly opaque white substance. It has been widely used in traditional medicine for treating various conditions such as body odor, foot sweat, and vaginal infections. In the case of ringworm, alum is particularly effective because of its sour taste, cooling properties, and safety for the skin. It helps dry out the affected area, detoxifies, and relieves itching. Additionally, alum has antimicrobial properties that help prevent bacterial infections. This readily available remedy provides highly effective results.
Method 1: Using Alum with Sulfur and Vinegar
- Step 1: First, gather alum, sulfur, and vinegar to use in the treatment.
- Step 2: Grind equal amounts of alum and sulfur.
- Step 3: Mix the ground alum, sulfur, and vinegar in a ratio of 2 tablespoons of alum, 2 tablespoons of sulfur, and 1 tablespoon of vinegar.
- Step 4: Wash the affected area with warm water or saline to eliminate bacteria, then dry with a soft towel.
- Step 5: Apply the prepared alum mixture to the affected skin 2 to 3 times a day. Note: For best results, continue this treatment for a week.
Method 2: Using Alum with Borax
- Step 1: Prepare alum, borax, and a few betel leaves.
- Step 2: Heat 4 parts of alum and 1 part of borax.
- Step 3: Grind the heated alum and borax into a fine powder and mix them together, storing the mixture in a sealed container.
- Step 4: Clean the affected skin with warm water or saline, then dry thoroughly.
- Step 5: Use the ground betel leaves to make a paste, apply a thin layer to the affected area, and sprinkle the alum-borax powder on top. Repeat twice daily until fully healed.


4. Horsehead Burdock
Horsehead Burdock is rich in vitamin C, xanthumin, and D-glucosid. These components have anti-inflammatory properties, numb the sensory nerves, and alleviate itching on the skin. It is commonly used by locals for treating ringworm at home through a decoction.
How to use:
- Chop the horsehead burdock plant, then dry it.
- Take a handful for each use and place it in a pot, adding enough water to cover the plant.
- Boil thoroughly, then lower the heat and continue simmering until the water reduces to one cup.
- Strain the first batch of decoction. Repeat the process with fresh water.
- Mix the two batches of decoction together and divide into three portions to drink.
- Regularly consume the decoction of horsehead burdock until the ringworm patches completely disappear.


5. Treating Ringworm with Baking Soda
Baking soda is commonly used in baking. Additionally, this ingredient has many healing properties that are not widely known. When applied topically, baking soda helps balance the skin's pH while also disinfecting, reducing inflammation, and eliminating the fungi that cause ringworm.
How to use:
- Mix 2-3 teaspoons of baking soda with a small amount of cooled boiled water to create a slightly thick paste.
- Apply the mixture to the ringworm spots and gently massage the skin to allow the beneficial properties of baking soda to deeply penetrate the skin layers.
- Allow the skin to dry naturally, then rinse it off.
- Apply this home remedy 3-4 times a week. Over time, the damaged skin will dry, peel off, and reveal fresh, even-toned skin.


6. Điều trị lang ben bằng dầu khuynh diệp
Các nghiên cứu đã phát hiện ra rằng, tinh dầu khuynh diệp có đặc tính kháng khuẩn, giúp ngăn ngừa sự phát triển của các loại nấm trên da. Ngoài ra, tinh dầu khuynh diệp còn có chứa một hợp chất có tên là eugenol. Hợp chấy này có đặc tính chống viêm mạnh và có thể giúp giảm các triệu chứng của lang ben như ngứa và khô da.
Cách chữa lang ben tại nhà bằng tinh dầu khuynh diệp như sau:
- Trộn tinh dầu khuynh diệp với dầu dừa nguyên chất theo tỷ lệ 1:1
- Lấy tăm bông nhúng vào hỗn hợp thoa đều trong phạm vi vùng da bị ảnh hưởng.
- Để 30 phút rồi lấy nước rửa sạch chỗ da vừa điều trị


7. Chuối tiêu xanh
Chuối tiêu xanh có tác dụng chữa được nhiều
bệnh hiệu quả trong Đông y. Chuối tiêu là loại quả có tính hàn, vị ngọt, không
độc có tác dụng nhuận tràng, thông huyết mạch, dùng để chữa bệnh táo bón, sốt…
Đặc biệt trong chuối xanh còn có chứa nhiều chất giúp trị nấm cũng như làm lành
vết thương trên bề mặt da hiệu quả, hạn chế sự lan rộng của các mảng da biến
màu. Bởi vậy chuối xanh có thể được coi là một loại thuốc dân gian chữa lang
ben hiệu quả nhất.
Cách làm: Chuẩn bị 1 quả chuối xanh, rồi
thái thành từng lát mỏng đắp lên vùng da bị lang ben, để khoảng 15 phút thì lau
sạch lại da. Làm liên tục 1 ngày khoảng 2-3 lần sẽ nhanh chóng loại bỏ lang
ben. Lưu ý rằng, bạn nên rửa sạch vùng da bị tổn thương và lau khô trước khi sát chuối lên nhé.


8. Fresh Galangal
Galangal is a common plant known to many of us. In traditional medicine, galangal is considered spicy, aromatic, and effective in warming the body, relieving pain, aiding digestion, and treating ailments such as rheumatism, ringworm, and other skin conditions. You can use it in one of two ways:
Method 1: Take a mature galangal root, clean it, then crush it into a paste and apply it to the affected skin area twice a day. Alternatively, you can mix the crushed galangal with some alcohol and rub it onto the skin. Continue this treatment for about a week, and the ringworm spots will disappear on their own.
Method 2: Crush the galangal, then squeeze in some lime juice and heat the mixture. When using, soak a cotton ball or a clean soft cloth in the solution and apply it evenly to the affected skin area twice a day. Be consistent with this treatment for around a week for the best results.


9. Vietnamese Water Dropwort
Vietnamese Water Dropwort is commonly known as a spice used in our daily meals. According to traditional medicine, Vietnamese Water Dropwort has a spicy taste, warming properties, a pleasant aromatic fragrance, and is non-toxic, with strong antiseptic properties. In addition to treating urinary retention, snake bites, and hemorrhoids, it is also highly effective in treating ringworm.
Method: This is a simple recipe using Vietnamese Water Dropwort, which many people prefer due to its easy preparation. Moreover, it doesn’t take much time to gather the ingredients. The fresh juice from Vietnamese Water Dropwort retains most of its active components. When applied directly to the skin, it effectively acts as an antifungal and promotes healing of the skin damage. Here's how to do it:
- Soak the Vietnamese Water Dropwort in diluted salt water for 15 minutes to remove any bacteria and impurities.
- Rinse it thoroughly with clean water and let it dry in a colander.
- Place the Water Dropwort in a blender, strain the juice using a fine cloth.
- Clean the affected skin area and gently dry it with a soft towel, then apply the Vietnamese Water Dropwort juice to the area.
- Massage the area for a few minutes, leave it to air dry for another 30 minutes, then wash with warm water.
- Apply this juice once a day for the best results.
