IELTS Speaking Phần 1: Máy tính
Example
1. When would you choose to utilize a computer?
Actually, it really depends. Specifically, I would typically spend a few hours each evening during weekdays on my computer to complete my work.
However, if it is on the weekend, then I will indulge myself in recreational activities and not touch the computer at all. Instead, I would binge surfing social media or watching online videos to let my hair down on my phone.
- Recreational activities (noun phrase): hoạt động giải trí
- Binge (v): say sưa, làm liên tục
- Let my hair down (idiom): thư giãn
→ Explanation of 2 scenarios:
- Khi dùng máy tính và cho mục đích gì, thời lượng bao lâu
- Không dùng máy tính mà dùng điện thoại nhiều hơn và cho mục đích gì
Focus on phrases related to leisure activities and entertainment.
2. When did you first use a computer?
As far as I can recall, it was when I was in grade 5 when my friends and I first experienced the Internet cafe within walking distance from my secondary school. It was a popular service of that time when people didn’t have their own computer and internet connection at home, so they could pay an hourly charge to do whatever they want. Although my father had bought my brother a computer, I was not allowed to use it for games or Yahoo which was worth the hype back then, so I would sneak out to those places.
- Internet cafe (noun phrase): quán net
- Within walking distance (phrase): gần
- Pay an hourly charge (phrase): trả phí theo giờ
- Worth the hype (phrase): được nhiều người cuồng tin, yêu thích
- Sneak out (verb phrase): lẻn ra ngoài
→ Solution using a pattern telling a short story with elements:
- Ở đâu
- Khi nào
- Với ai
- Làm gì
- Tại sao
Students may choose to shorten the reference to when and for what purpose. Note the use of underlined phrases to reminisce about past events.
3. How would your life be different without computers?
In all fairness, I guess it’s fairly not necessary to possess computers anymore because nowadays people prefer laptops’ portability, light weight, and efficiency. Therefore, it would be just fine just having a laptop.
On the other hand, I sometimes need to work with advanced software for editing and animation. Most laptops are not compatible with them, so having a computer is not a bad idea at all.
- Indulge ourselves in (verb phrase): thưởng thức/ tận hưởng
- Portability (n): tính di động
- Light weight (n): trọng lượng nhẹ
- Efficiency (n): hiệu quả
- Compatible with (a): tương thích với
→ Solution using a pattern mentioning possible situations.
- Không cần có máy tính nhưng vẫn ổn
- Đôi lúc cũng cần sử dụng đến nó
Chú ý các thuật ngữ để miêu tả về các thiết bị điện tử
4. Bạn cho rằng việc sử dụng máy tính là dễ hay khó?
Generally, my answer would be determined by different circumstances. If it is simple tasks, such as preparing documents, slides, or using searching engines online for information research, it would be a piece of cake for me.
However, If it is related to complex formulas in spreadsheets or digital animation, then I have to read self-help books or take online courses. For example, last year during the pandemic, I was serious about getting proper training for using Procreate, which is a software for digital drawing and turning what you draw into animation.
- Searching engines (noun phrase): công cụ tìm kiếm
- Self-help books (noun phrase): những cuốn sách tự học
- Proper (a): thích hợp/ phù hợp
→ Đáp án sử dụng mô hình đề cập đến các tình huống có thể xảy ra.
- Dễ đối với một số việc
- Những tính năng đòi hỏi kiến thức và kỹ năng cao
Học sinh có thể đưa ra ví dụ tương tự như mẫu hoặc không.

As you provided me with this topic, the initial thought that springs to mind is the commitment I made to my sister.
If memory serves me correctly, it was the last Tet holiday when I traveled to Dong Ho Village, which is located in Northern Vietnam and well-known for its traditional folk paintings. As soon as my sister knew that I would visit the village, she asked me to purchase a whole collection of different paintings inspired by traditional folktales. She has been a keen collector of traditional crafts since she settled in Denmark because keeping Vietnamese works of arts helps her ease homesickness. It was also my pleasure to help her.
What makes them remarkable is that the whole crafting process is done manually with locally sourced materials, including the bark of a native plant species, the shells of scallops crushed into powder, sticky rice, and natural color dyes. Intensive and painstaking labor work is required in making paper, carving wooden prints, and perfecting the painting with elaborate brush strokes of precise colors. They are truly one of a kind.
When I got to the village, I immediately visited a recommended shop and acquired all the pieces and carefully framed them before placing them in boxes for protection. When I returned home, I found a reliable delivery enterprise to ship them to Denmark. It was a long and exhausting process, you know, but I felt content at the same time because it was really nice to help my sister even though she is half the world away.
To cut the long story short, it was an experience of sentimental value for me.
- Folk paintings (noun phrase): tranh dân gian
- Traditional folktales (noun phrase): câu chuyện dân gian truyền thống
- Ease homesickness (verb phrase): vơi đi nỗi nhớ nhà.
- Bark (n): vỏ cây
- Scallops (n): con sò điệp
- Intensive and painstaking labor work (noun phrase): công việc lao động cực nhọc và cần mẫn
- Elaborate (a): phức tạp, chi tiết
- Brush strokes (noun phrase): nét cọ
- Framed (v): đóng khung
- Enterprise (n): doanh nghiệp
- Content (a): hài lòng, mãn nguyện
- Sentimental value (noun phrase): giá trị tình cảm
→ The solution describes the details about TIME, WITH WHOM, and the specifics of my PROMISE. Contestants may choose to use a piece of information they have prepared to incorporate into the essay. For example, promising only someone to play sports or promising to travel somewhere with someone.
IELTS Speaking Part 3: Promises
Sample
1. In general, do Vietnamese parents make commitments to their children?
Well, I suppose it varies from person to person.
For some parents who are a bit traditional and preserved, they would not pledge to things whether they wanted to. It’s pretty common in good old-fashioned families in rural Vietnam.
In contrast, younger generations of families tend to grow more intimate with their kids, and it is widely-practiced among young parents as a way to give their word of reward if the children behave themselves or do good deeds.
- Preserved a): bảo thủ, không cởi mở
- Pledge (v): hứa
- Good old-fashioned: kiểu truyền thống điển hình (tốt đẹp)
- Intimate (a): thân mật
- Give their word of reward (verb phrase): đưa ra lời hứa khen thưởng
- Behave themselves (verb phrase): hành xử đúng mực
- Do good deeds (verb phrase): làm việc tốt
→ The solution lists 2 groups of parental cases:
- Kiểu truyền thống thì ít khi hứa với con cái
- Kiểu thân thiết với con cái thì thường dùng lời hứa thưởng cho con như hình thức dạy dỗ.
2. Do children also make commitments to their parents?
Honestly, there are several things that children usually undertake to do to their parents.
But I suppose the most common one would involve household chores, such as sweeping the floors or washing the dishes.
The second one worth mentioning would be important matters, especially related to their academic performance.
- Undertake (v): hứa
- Academic performance (noun phrase ): kết quả học tập
→ The solution lists things that children often promise to parents, from small tasks to important ones.
3. Do you believe it's important to keep one's promises?
Well based on my experience, it is fairly crucial to put action to words that you have committed. It shows how dedicated, responsible, or trustworthy you are to others. That’s the reason why lots of people feel guilty or unease when they fail to make their promises come true.
Yet, being human is to err, and we are not all mighty. Sometimes, we promise others the moon as a way to fill their hopes and put them at ease. It is not meant to hurt the persons, thus understandable.
- Compelling (v): bắt buộc
- Put action to words (verb phrase): nói là làm/ thực hiện lời mình nói
- Committed (v): hứa
- Dedicated (a): tận tụy
- Responsible (a): có tinh thần trách nhiệm
- Trustworthy (a): hoặc đáng tin cậy
- Guilty or unease: tội lỗi hoặc khó chịu
- being human is to err (saying): phàm là người ai cũng mắc lỗi
- we are not all mighty (saying): không phải việc gì con người chúng ta có thể thực hiện được
- promise others the moon (idiom): hứa viển vông, không thể thực hiện được
- the persons (n): những cá nhân được đề cập trong bài
→ The solution discusses two aspects of keeping promises:
- Cần giữ lời hứa vì nó thể hiện một số đức tính quan trọng của con người
- Một số lời hứa không thể thực hiện được thì cũng có thể thông cảm
4. How do you feel when others fail to keep their promises?
Personally, it would come down to different situations.
If it is not of paramount importance, you know stuff, then I would probably turn a blind eye on it since there are things easier said than done.
Nevertheless, if the promises are related to work or punctuality, I would probably feel a bit annoyed and disrespected. If this is repeated more than a couple of times, I would be at the end of my tether.
- Come down to (verb phrase): quyết định
- Of paramount importance (noun phrase): quan trọng hàng đầu
- Stuff (n): việc linh tinh
- Turn a blind eye (idiom): nhắm mắt làm ngơ
- Work or punctuality (nouns): công việc hoặc đúng giờ/ đúng hẹn
- Disrespected (a): không tôn trọng
- At the end of my tether (idiom): mức chịu đựng cuối cùng [British English] (at the end of my rope [American English]/ it would be the last straw)
- Chuyện vặt vãnh thì mình không quan trọng lắm
- Nhưng về công việc hoặc đúng giờ thì nghiêm túc
