IELTS Speaking Phần 1: Sinh nhật
Example
1. How do children celebrate birthdays in your nation?
To me, in my country, kids usually throw a party with friends to celebrate their birthdays. It can be held at home or in a high-end restaurant, depending on how much money their parents can afford.
- High-end restaurant (n): nhà hàng sang trọng
- Afford (v): chi trả
→ Please list some venues where most children celebrate birthdays as a good way to answer this question.
2. How did you mark your last birthday?
Honestly, I am not a party animal, so I didn’t intend to have a grand celebration on my last birthday. As I vividly recall, some of my close friends was invited to my house and we had a barbecue together. Later on, I just simply made a wish and then blew out the candles on the birthday cake they had bought me from an acclaimed bakery.
- Party animal (idiom): người thích tiệc tùng
- Grand (adj): lớn
- Acclaimed (adj): có tiếng
→ Simply put, we just need to describe how we organized our most recent birthday party to meet the requirements of this question.
3. What types of birthday presents do you enjoy receiving?
Well, I would say that I have no specific interests on what I will get on my birthday. To me, the fact that my family or friends care about picking something for me on the day I was born is what touches me the most. You know, it’s the thought that counts.
- It’s the thought that counts (phrase): quan trọng là tấm lòng
- Touch (v): làm ai đó cảm động
→ Share your thoughts on receiving gifts to avoid focusing too much on the specific gift you like. As a gift recipient, no one wants to demand their favorite gift, right?
4. Is there a distinction between how you celebrated your birthday in the past and now?
I suppose so. As a child, I was really fond of being surrounded by many people, so there were a lot of friends invited to my birthday party. Additionally, I also like being showered with presents on my birthday. When I reach my adulthood, I usually treat myself to a gift instead of holding a party on such a special day.
- Fond (adj): thích
- To be showered with presents (phrase): được tặng nhiều quà
- Treat oneself to something (v): tự tưởng thưởng cho bản thân ai đó cái gì đó
→ Certainly, there are certain differences in organizing birthdays when we were young compared to when we grow up. Presenting these differences at both times is a persuasive way to answer the question.
IELTS Speaking Part 2
Describe a health problem you or someone you know had.

Example
You should talk about:
- What it was
- How you/this person had this health problem
- What you or this person had to do to get better
And describe the feelings of yourself or the person about this health issue.
To me, getting sick is inevitable for many of us and today I am going to talk about the time when I suffered from malaria which is a mosquito-borne infectious disease.
Malaria has long been known as one of the most dangerous diseases which can lead to people’s deteriorating health condition, even mortality if not properly treated.
If my memory serves me well, that was when I was a high school student, an eleven grader, to be exact. At that time, my school held an outing to Da Lat and I was super excited because this was the first time I had a chance to travel to such a glamorous city. One day before the trip, I had a severe fever that my body couldn’t function properly.
At first, I thought it was just an ordinary fever and I would be able to make a speedy recovery. However, things turned out to be much worse for me as I was diagnosed with malaria after a medical checkup, which meant that I couldn’t make it to Da Lat with my classmates.
The doctor prescribed medication and advised me to rest for a week.
Initial symptoms of this disease including headache, vomiting and nausealiterally tortured me for the first 3 days of the disease. Since then, I gradually got better and was able to do some gentle exercises. I was completely free of illness after 7 days.
Missing out on the trip to the city I love really saddened me, but the fact that I was able to overcome such a life-threatening disease was a blessing to me.
- Inevitable (adj): không thể tránh khỏi
- Mosquito-borne infectious disease (n): bệnh truyền nhiễm do muỗi
- Deteriorating health conditions (n): tình trạng sức khoẻ giảm sút
- Mortality (n): tử vong
- Outing (n): chuyến đi
- Ordinary fever (n): sốt thông thường
- Torture (v): tra tấn
- Life-threatening disease (n): bệnh đe doạ đến tính mạng
- Blessing (n): sự may mắn
→ To develop your ideas on this topic, think about a time when you faced a health issue and had to miss a planned outing. This will allow you to add more details to your speech on this topic.

1. Are people more health-conscious nowadays?
Definitely. People have become more health-conscious since the outbreak of the COVID-19. An increased focus on overall wellness has been witnessed as many people have eventually quit smoking habits and placed emphasis on physical activities across the world.
- Health-conscious (adj): có tính quan tâm về sức khoẻ
- Place emphasis on (v): chú trọng
→ After the Covid-19 pandemic, it is evident that people are increasingly focusing on their health. Sharing your insights on this phenomenon is an effective way to answer this question.
2. What measures do people in your country take to maintain their health?
As a matter of fact, a healthy lifestyle can allow us to thrive throughout the course of our lives. Healthy movements including walking, dancing or running can actually keep people physically active during the day, especially for those who are pressed for time as such activities may take us a relatively short amount of time to execute. Besides, having a well-balanced diet can also promote people’s metabolism and immunity. Therefore, they can avoid suffering from severe disorders.
- To be pressed for time (adj): gặp áp lực về mặt thời gian
- Execute (v): thực hiện
- Metabolism and immunity (n): khả năng trao đổi chất

→ Discussing effective methods such as controlling diet or exercising will make your answer highly convincing.
3. How can healthy eating habits be instilled in children?
In my opinion, a good diet can enable kids to stay alert during studies and other extracurricular activities, so helping them to adopt healthy eating habits is indispensable. A proper eating habit can be taught by encouraging our kids to eat slowly. By doing this, they can chew their food thoroughly before swallowing it, thus absorbing nutrients more efficiently.
Additionally, a good eating pattern can also be fostered if kids are surrounded by family members while having meals. Not only can this help kids create an appropriate timetable for any mealtime but also strengthen a long-lasting bond within the family.
- Stay alert (v): tỉnh táo
- Extracurricular activities (n): những hoạt động ngoài trời
- Indispensable (adj): quan trọng
- Strengthen a long-lasting bond (v): thắt chặt mối quan hệ lâu bền
