IELTS Speaking Part 2. Describe a time when someone or something created a lot of noise
You should say:
- When this happened
- Who this person was/what this thing was
- What kinds of noise was
and explain your reaction upon hearing the noise.
Example
I’m going to talk about that time when my next door neighbor renovated her house and made so much noise that I couldn’t study.
It was during last summer and I was studying for an important exam. Due to the extreme heat of the summer, my neighbor decided to carry out the work at night. She wanted to repaint the interior of the house so in the late afternoon, her family started moving all the furniture in the house. Our houses shared a wall, and I could hear all the yelling and shouting when they tried to move a big sofa. They must have done a sloppy job because I kept hearing it getting bumped into the wall. At one point, they even drop it to the ground making a thud.
After that, the worst noise came when they dragged the large metal table across the room. The screeching sounds that it made gave me goosebumps. All the noises were extremely distracting, and I could not concentrate at all.
Despite seeking permission from those around me, I felt uneasy and anxious because I needed to study and rest for my exam. Fortunately, I managed to go to my aunt's place nearby and had a good night's sleep.

IELTS Speaking Part 3: Noise
1. Where are places where people often hear a lot of noise?
I think cities nowadays are polluted by noise. You can hear different kinds of noises in a large city. On the streets, there are sounds of motorcycles and automobiles zooming by. Sounds also come from constructions of buildings and infrastructures.
2. What might happen when someone listens to very loud music using headphones while running or hiking?
When running or hiking, one should always be aware of their surroundings. A lot of negative things can occur while being outdoors and listening to loud music. They may miss the sound of vehicles coming near them and get involved in an accident. In some cases, they may also miss calls for help from other people, for example, someone who has fallen and needs medical assistance.
- Occur (v): xảy ra
- Get involved in an accident (n): bị tai nạn
3. How can we reduce traffic noise?
There are a couple of ways people can alleviate the traffic noise problem. First of all, people can switch to using electric vehicles that produce less noise. While this is an appealing idea, I think it will take a lot of time and effort to achieve as not everyone can afford them. Another option would be to upgrade the current road system or move traffic away from residential areas. The government can build more tunnels that allow vehicles to travel quickly and also keep the noise inside these structures.
4. Do you anticipate the world will become louder in the future?
I’m quite optimistic that the contrary will happen. Nowadays, we are more aware of the detrimental effects that noises can have on people’s wellbeing, and we are doing our best to minimize those. There have been trends in switching to using vehicles that are less noisy, new and improved construction materials that reduce noises have also been researched tirelessly by scientists. For these reasons, I think the future will be more peaceful for us when it comes to sounds.
