IELTS Speaking Part 2
Describe a positive change that you made in your life
Example
You are expected to:
- What it is
- Why you did it
- Who you did it with
And describe your feelings about the change
There is no doubt that change is inevitable when we are living in a highly-connected and fast-paced world. We all experience certain changes at some points of our life one way or another, some of which can exert positive impacts on our lives. Today, I am going to talk about a change that seems to be a turning point of my life.
Honestly, when I was at my high school, partaking in physical activities was not my thing. I usually immerse myself in playing online games after school, so I wasn’t physically fit. Because of being excessively addicted to games, my academic performance was poor. It was really hard for me to beat such an addiction even though I was aware that it had an adverse bearing on my study.
One day, when I was strolling around my school, one of my classmates asked me to join his basketball team. I knew this sport was not geared towards those who led a sedentary lifestyle like me at that time but there was something that really spurred me on. Therefore, I decided to take up playing basketball. At first, I really struggled to handle the ball, let alone scoring points. However, the more I played it, the more passionate I became.
I started playing some pick-up games with my classmates after school instead of returning home for games as usual. I gradually suppressed my bad habits and my physique was a lot better since I burnt a considerable amount of my body fat when taking part in such a sport. In addition, this kind of sport could allow me to pay attention to my teacher’s lesson more effectively. As a result, I could ace the final exam, which made my parents really proud of me.
I believe this positive change has shaped who I am today, and I deeply value it.
