IELTS Speaking Part 1: Du lịch
Example
1. Are you fond of traveling?
Actually, I must admit that I am quite enthusiastic about traveling for two primary reasons.
Firstly, it is a marvelous way to let your hair down after hard working weeks. Whenever having some days off and indulging myself in landscapes, I could get away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Secondly, it is also a good chance to widen your knowledge about different cultures, cuisines, or lives you come across.
- The hustle and bustle (idiom): hối hả và nhộn nhịp
- Widen your knowledge (idiom): mở rộng kiến thức của bạn
- Cuisines (n): ẩm thực
- Come across (phrasal verb): tình cờ gặp/ đi ngang qua
→ Explain the two reasons:
- Để thư giãn
- Để mở mang kiến thức
Pay attention to related phrases about relaxation and alternatives to traveling.
2. Do you prefer traveling alone or with others?
Honestly, I think it really depends.
If my friends or family and I are available at the same time, we would travel together and have a whale of a time. This is definitely an occasion when you and your beloved ones can bond.
However, if they are swamped with work and can't join me, I'd gladly explore places on my own. You know, having some time for yourself isn't a bad idea.
- Have a whale of a time (idiom): tận hưởng vui vẻ
→ Explain both scenarios:
- Khi cùng rảnh thì đi chung
- Khi một bên bận thì sẽ tự đi một mình
You can choose to divide emotions into two scenarios: when happy, travel with others; when feeling down, desire to be alone (have some space).
3. During which seasons do you prefer to travel?
To be honest, I enjoy sightseeing during specific times of the year.
Particularly, I am fond of summer because it is the time when I can take part in a lot of activities without any disruption from the weather. It is the perfect time for beaches, you know.
Additionally, winter is also my cup of tea. Vietnam is a tropical country, so I am really enthusiastic about traveling to a country in the temperate zone where I can try some winter sports.
- Disruption (n): sự gián đoạn
- Temperate zone (noun phrase): vùng ôn đới
- Globe-trotter (n): người du lịch vòng quanh thế giới
→ Use the pattern of listing two favorite seasons:
- Mùa hè – làm gì – ở đâu
- Mùa đông (tương tự)
You can choose to mention one weather condition, focusing on using phrases instead of 'like'.
4. What types of places have you visited in your life?
Generally, I am a globe-trotter, and I have been to different countries.
The most visited area would be South East Asia and East Asia. These hot spots live up to their reputation for having rich cultures and mind-blowing cuisines. Hence, they are pretty affordable to wander around, too.
The second group of countries worth mentioning is Europe and North America. The lifestyles and heritage in these regions are as different as chalk and cheese from my country.
search engines (noun phrase): công cụ tìm kiếm
- live up to their reputation for (phrase): nổi tiếng vì
- mind-blowing (a): kinh ngạc
- wander (v): đi lang thang
- as different as chalk and cheese (idiom): khác nhau một trời một vực
→ Use the pattern of listing two regions or areas commonly traveled to
- Châu Á
- Châu Âu và Châu Mỹ
Candidates can divide into two groups: domestic and international, or southern and northern regions. Then highlight the unique features of each region. Pay attention to vocabulary related to the topic of tourism.
IELTS Speaking Part 2
Describe a time you taught an older person something new.
You are required to state:
- Who you taught
- What you taught
- Why you taught this person
Furthermore, elucidate your sentiments regarding it
Example
If there was a contest for the most remarkable experience, assisting my grandmother with her new phone would certainly be a top contender.
If memory serves me correctly, it was just a few days before the social distancing took place last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. As soon as we learned about the policy, my family decided to buy a smartphone so that my grandmother could contact us. She was living with my uncle and quite away from my house. Yet, it was of paramount importance to check her out frequently because of the lethal virus.
In terms of the device, it was not really cutting-edge or expensive because it was bought for the purpose of video calls only. It fitted perfectly in the palm of the hand and was equipped with a software that guaranteed face recognition for the sake of simplicity.
To summarize, it's a truly memorable experience for me.
- Social distancing (noun phrase): hạn chế tiếp xúc xã hội
- Of paramount importance (phrase): quan trọng hàng đầu
- Lethal (a): gây chết người
- Cutting-edge (a): tiên tiến
- The palm of the hand (noun phrase): lòng bàn tay
- Face recognition (noun phrase): nhận dạng khuôn mặt
- Messaging utility (noun phrase): tiện ích nhắn tin
- Painstaking (a): kiên nhẫn
- Absent-minded (a): lơ đãng
→ Explanation of WHEN, WITH WHOM, and teaching WHAT. Candidates may choose to utilize prepared content on electronic devices as demonstrated in the previous preparation. Carefully maintain past tense and pronunciation.
IELTS Speaking Part 3: Elderly individuals and technology
Example
1. Is it simple for older individuals to acquire new skills?
Honestly, it is not really challenging if they are willing to make changes and are in good mental condition. They probably just need some practice to remember things well.
But, you also have to understand that for those who are facing memory problems like dementia, it would be intricate.
- Challenging (a): thách thức
- Dementia (n): sa sút trí tuệ
- Intricate (a): phức tạp
Answer listing 2 aspects: easy and difficult. Candidates may divide by age group; for example, 50-65 and 65+.
2. What are the reasons why some elderly people resist using new technology?
Honestly, there are several reasons for this.
Firstly, they are attached to their routines, and perhaps they believe they can manage without gadgets. For instance, my grandmother only agreed to learn using a phone when she understood its importance during the social distancing period.
Secondly, they would probably give up when failing so many times due to their health problems. To use a mouse when operating a computer needs really good hand work while most elderly people have trouble with limb coordination.
- Limb coordination (noun phrase): sự phối hợp chân tay.
→ List two reasons. Candidates may provide practical examples if unsure how to explain.
3. Do young and elderly people have different opinions about new changes?
Well based on my experience, it is fairly distinct when the young tend to welcome greener pastures. Oppositely, the aged are more skeptical and cautious when it comes to winds of changes.
Yet, I think somehow deep down in their hearts, they, young and old alike, accept the fair truth that life‘s unheralded changeover is inevitable.
- Greener pastures (idiom): đồng cỏ xanh hơn, ý ám chỉ những điều mới mẻ hay ho hơn
- Skeptical and cautious (a): hoài nghi và thận trọng
- Winds of changes (a): những luồng gió mới
- Young and old alike (phrase): trẻ và già như nhau
- Unheralded changeover (noun phrase): sự thay đổi không được báo trước
- Inevitable (a): không thể tránh khỏi
→ Mention two different and non-different aspects:
- Cái khác nằm ở sự tiếp nhận cái mới
- Còn giống nhau là vì ai cũng lường trước được rằng cuộc sống thay đổi là điều tất yếu.
