IELTS Writing Task 1
Task 1: The charts below give information about different types of waste disposed of in one country in 1960 and 2011. |
Sample
The diagrams illustrate data regarding various methods of waste disposal used in a particular country from 1960 to 2011.
In general, the amount of paper, food, and other refuse discarded decreased significantly over the period. Conversely, a larger proportion of plastic, wood, and food waste was disposed of by consumers. Another point to note is that the disposal of other items remained relatively stable.
Initially, a quarter of the paper was discarded in 1960, but this figure decreased by 10% by 2011. Regarding textiles, this sector also saw a slight decrease of 6% (from 17% to 11%) during the same period. Additionally, in 2011, people disposed of three times less additional waste compared to the original figure of 13%.
Furthermore, it is clear that compared to 2010, there was a nearly 10% increase in the amount of plastic and food waste in 2011. Additionally, consumers disposed of twice as much wood in 1960, accounting for 8%.
Lastly, the rates of disposal for glass, metal, and organic waste remained fairly consistent during the period. Specifically, about 5% of glass was discarded compared to around 9% for the latter two categories.
IELTS Writing Task 2
Task 2: Large companies use sport events to promote their products. Some people think this has a negative impact on sports. To what extent do you agree or disagree? |

It is a common practice in contemporary society for large corporations to promote products via a variety of sporting events, teams, and players. Based on my perspective, despite the fact that this method could help maintain financial stability for the sports industry, it should be viewed as being negative due to the de-emphasis on the sporting spirit.
Corporate sponsorship proponents praise its flexibility in terms of finance. The majority of broadcast games, from American sports like basketball and baseball to international ones like football and rugby, are free for fans. Advertising during commercial breaks, billboards outside of the arenas, and product placement, including on player uniforms, are the only things that make this feasible. The money raised from such sponsorship not only permits free broadcasting of the games but also allows club owners to maintain top-notch facilities and pay the highest-paid players. Owners would not be able to support their club in case advertising were prohibited, and players would eventually move for leagues with higher salaries.
However, I support those who argue that sports leagues may suffer unintended consequences due to advertising. Firstly, there are certain vices among viewers and supporters related to unhealthy products. For example, if young football fans see their favorite players endorsing alcohol or cigarettes, they may be influenced to do the same. Secondly, excessive commercials can irritate some viewers who easily lose interest while watching, thereby diminishing their enjoyment of sports. Nowadays, many view sports simply as a means of generating revenue.
To conclude, opinions differ on whether increased product advertising has a positive impact on sports. Nevertheless, in my view, this trend benefits sports.
