IELTS Speaking Part 1: Voice
Example
1. Has your voice changed compared to when you were younger?
Well in fact, I would have to say that it is fairly different when you consider that the pitch grows lower gradually, and my pronunciation is more precise than it was before. This happened when I entered puberty.
- Pitch (n): độ cao tông giọng
- Precise (a): chính xác
- Puberty (n): tuổi dậy thì
→ List the changes in your voice and when these changes began. Candidates can mention speaking slower over time or changes in intonation/accent according to region.
2. Does your voice resemble that of a family member?
In all fairness, I guess my answer would be no because I think it has something to do with the formation of our larynx. It is like our DNA, you know, one of a kind. It is once in a blue moon when you find someone whose voice resembles yours.
- Larynx (n): thanh quản
- Once in a blue moon (idiom): hiếm khi
- Resemble (v): tương tự
→ Explain why no one in your family has a voice similar to yours. If you believe someone does, specify who and detail the similarities/differences.
3. Do you enjoy recording your voice and listening to it?
Frankly speaking, it is quite useful when I record my English speaking practice. This helps me pay attention to the errors I usually make, like grammatical or lexical ones.
However, it can be quite strange and amusing to hear our own voice. Therefore, it can also be embarrassing if someone else is listening at the same time.
- Grammatical or lexical ones (noun phrase): lỗi sai về ngữ pháp và từ vựng
→ Discuss the contrasting scenarios of recording and listening to one's voice:
- Thích lợi ích của nó
- Cảm thấy ngại khi người khác nghe giọng của mình
IELTS Speaking Part 2
Describe a popular place for sports
Example
You should say:
- what this place is, where this place is
- what kinds of people go there
- what you did there
And explain how you felt about it.
When thinking about the topic, Bali immediately came to mind.
Let me start the ball rolling by saying that the island is located to the East of Java which plays a major role in Indonesia’s tourism. Precisely, it is a touristy hub well known among Western globe-trotters. I guess the renowned novel – Eat, Pray, Love- has a lot to do with its reputation.
If memory serves correctly, it was on my summer vacation in 2017 when I decided to go on a backpacking trip to the country. It was amazing to see how intriguing the aquatic activities were. Precisely, Bali is worth the hype for its magnificent waves where lots of surfers flock to on a yearly basis for practice and challenges. When I got there, I also bought myself a surfing course which lasted for two days. Hence, you can also enjoy scuba diving there by taking a boat ride to the coral reefs in the open water.
My advice is that you should ask your hotel receptionists for recommended tour offers with a reasonable price. Additionally, if you are down for fishing you can book a private group tour to have a lifetime experience. What I was really impressed by is the session where you can swim with sharks in cages. It was both terrifying and thrilling when being surrounded by those Apex predators.
I felt small and immaterial compared to the vast ocean and those creatures. Last but not least, it is a good idea to go for a ride with a rented bike to explore here and there. This would give you a chance to indulge in the ambiance of rural life and appreciate the beauty of nature.
In a nutshell, it is definitely a wonderful trip, the memories of which I’ve always cherished.
- Play a role (phrase): đóng vai trò
- Reputation (n): danh tiếng
- Backpacking (a): du lịch bụi/ phượt
- Worth the hype (phrase): đáng được hưởng ứng
- Flock to (verb phrase): ùa về
- Down for s.th: thích cái gì
- Apex predators (noun phrase): thú săn mồi hàng đầu
- Immaterial (a): vô hình
- Here and there (idiom): mọi nơi
- Ambience (n): êm đềm
- Cherish (v): trân trọng
→ Present a description focusing on the attractive features of a location, emphasizing sports aspects:
- Vị trí
- Đi khi nào
- Các mặt thu hút liên quan đến thể thao
Candidates should take note of famous descriptive phrases.
IELTS Speaking Part 3: Sports
Sample
1. Do young people in your country enjoy participating in sports activities?
Honestly, it's quite common to see many young adults engaging in morning exercises at parks, such as jogging, playing badminton, and so forth.
But you also have to understand that practicing sports is a bit less preferable among adolescents. I guess the reason for this would be their hectic schedule in high schools.
- Adolescent (n): trẻ vị thành niên
- Hectic schedule (noun phrase): lịch trình bận rộn
→ List 2 well-known advantages for young people who frequently engage in physical activities and provide reasons.
2. What are the advantages of sports for children?
Well, indeed, there are two primary advantages to consider.
Firstly, it is a chance for them to improve their physical health and promote wholesome growth. This holds the key to prevent a sedentary lifestyle at a young age.
Furthermore, it's wonderful if they participate in team sports such as soccer or basketball. This would enable them to develop teamwork skills and socialize with others.
- Wholesome growth (noun phrase): phát triển lành mạnh
- Sedentary lifestyle (noun phrase): lối sống thụ động
→ List 2 benefits of sports for children. Focus on phrases related to lifestyle.
3. Is it necessary to create public sports facilities?
Based on my personal experience, it really depends.
If it is not a problem for the municipal budget, especially in metropolises, it would be a world of good to establish liberal endowment of sports facilities in public parks or playgrounds. This truly elevates the living standards.
However, if the government cannot afford to cover the costs of public sports facilities, citizens have the option to exercise at home or at gyms. Providing sports equipment imposes a significant burden on national finances.
- Municipal budget (noun phrase): chính quyền địa phương thành phố
- Liberal endowment (noun phrase): tự do ra vào
- Elevate (v): nâng tầm
→ Discuss the two aspects of constructing public infrastructure:
- Lợi điểm của sự đầu tư
- Mặt ngược lại nếu không có nguồn đầu tư
4. What are your thoughts on companies donating sports facilities for underprivileged children?
Well, to be fair, I believe this is definitely beneficial for both society and the company.
Firstly, it would give the children a chance to enjoy kinesthetic activities when the government could not make such financial aid, particularly in poorer regions of the country.
Secondly, it would associate the companies with good civic contribution, and thus promote brand image.
- Kinesthetic activities (noun phrase): hoạt động thể chất
- Civic contribution (noun phrase): đóng góp dân sự
→ State 2 benefits for two groups of individuals:
- Đối với xã hội
- Đối với công ty
