Adding bank cards to Apple Pay on iPhone allows you to make touchless payments without needing an internet connection. In this article, Software Tricks shares a quick way to add bank cards to Apple Pay on iPhone.

1. What is Apple Pay?
Apple Pay is a one-touch payment technology on Apple devices developed based on NFC protocol. Its introduction allows users to quickly add bank cards to the app and use them instead of physical bank cards. Apple Pay was first introduced in 2014 but did not support the Vietnamese market at that time. In August 2023, Apple Pay officially debuted in Vietnam with partnerships with most banks.

Apple Pay uses NFC technology to communicate with POS machines, enabling customers to make desired transactions directly from their bank cards. In simple terms, Apple Pay digitizes your physical bank card and securely stores it in the Apple Pay wallet. When you need to pay, you open the card in Apple Pay and proceed with the transaction as you would with a traditional swipe.
Why choose Apple Pay over physical cards?
The issue with bank cards involves various security concerns, especially for cards like VISA/MasterCard, which rely on card numbers and CVV codes for transactions. Using a physical card at stores increases the risk of exposing these details, potentially resulting in unauthorized charges. However, with Apple Pay, you will never expose your card number or CVV, providing you peace of mind while using it at stores, supermarkets, restaurants, cafes, and more.
Additionally, not carrying physical cards with you also helps mitigate the risk of losing, misplacing, or damaging them. Apple Pay allows you to add hundreds of bank cards to your phone, eliminating the need to carry hundreds of cards in your wallet.
Why use Apple Pay instead of bank transfers?

One of the popular payment methods in Vietnam is bank transfers, but it requires an Internet connection, which not everyone has access to. Apple Pay enables payment via NFC (Near Field Communication), allowing you to make payments without needing an Internet connection.
Where can you use Apple Pay?
In Vietnam, Apple Pay can be used everywhere that supports card swiping and bank card payments. When making a payment, simply open the card in your Apple Pay wallet, verify security with FaceID/TouchID/Passcode, and bring your phone close to the POS machine to complete the transaction.
Step 1: Download the Apple Pay wallet from the AppStore if it's not already on your phone.
Step 2: Open the Apple Wallet app, select the Add (+) icon, and choose Debit or Credit Card.

Step 3: Before adding a credit card, Apple Pay will provide an introduction and you click Continue.

Upon adding the card to Apple Pay, you'll have 2 options as follows:
- Scan physical bank card: Place your bank card in the center of the camera for Apple Pay to automatically retrieve card details.
- Manual input: Enter card details manually into Apple Pay, including Name, Issue Date, Expiry Date, Card Number, CVV code.
Typically, people opt for method 1 as it's quicker and more accurate.
Step 4: After successfully retrieving card details, Apple Pay will link with your bank and present usage policies. Select Agree to proceed with adding the bank card to Apple Pay.

Step 5: Finally, choose a card verification method to add the card to Apple Pay. You can use either SMS or Email for verification. Enter the code from the message into the verification box to complete card activation.
