The travel season is in full swing, and after exploring new destinations, many travelers want to bring back local specialties as gifts for loved ones and friends. However, transporting items such as fresh produce, alcoholic drinks, or fish sauce on airplanes is often considered a sensitive matter. Let’s take a closer look at Vietravel Airlines' policies on transporting these items to ensure you’re fully prepared for your trip.

Is it permissible to carry fresh produce, alcoholic beverages, and fish sauce in checked luggage with Vietravel Airlines?
First and foremost, it’s essential to understand some general information about the checked baggage policies of Vietravel Airlines. These include:
- Checked baggage refers to ordinary items intended for travel purposes. Therefore, passengers are kindly advised not to pack cash, valuables (such as jewelry, cameras, laptops, or mobile phones), important documents, or Lithium batteries in their checked luggage.
- Checked baggage is NOT INCLUDED in the ticket price of Vietravel Airlines. Passengers can purchase additional baggage allowance based on their specific needs.
- Checked baggage allowances can be purchased in advance or at the time of passenger check-in.
- Discounted rates of up to 68% are available for passengers who purchase checked baggage allowances at least 4 hours before the scheduled departure time (applicable for the first 40kg per passenger).
- Standards for the weight and dimensions of checked baggage:
+ Weight: ≤ 32kg per piece
+ Dimensions: ≤ 203 cm
+ If checked baggage exceeds the standard weight and/or size limits, additional oversized baggage fees will apply.
- Pets are not permitted for transport on Vietravel Airlines flights.
REGULATIONS FOR TRANSPORTING FRESH, PERISHABLE, AND FROZEN ITEMS
- Crushed/wet ice is not allowed; only dry ice (≤ 2.5 kg per person) may be used.
- Inner packaging: The luggage must be wrapped in a thick plastic bag with a minimum thickness of 0.1 mm and covered with additional layers of plastic to prevent unintended leakage.
- Outer packaging: In addition to the inner packaging, such luggage must be placed in a foam or plastic container with waterproof material, a secure lid, and proper sealing to avoid leakage or spillage during handling and transport. Each foam or plastic container with waterproof material must be wrapped in plastic with a thickness of at least 1mm to ensure safety.
REGULATIONS FOR TRANSPORTING ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES
According to Appendix II of the List of Dangerous Goods Restricted from Carriage on Aircraft, issued alongside Decision No. 1541/QD-CHK dated September 14, 2021, by the Director of the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority:
- The maximum capacity of the container must not exceed 1 liter.
- Alcoholic liquids are only accepted for transport if stored in sealed bottles or containers with the manufacturer's original labels intact.

REGULATIONS FOR TRANSPORTING FISH SAUCE AND OTHER LIQUIDS
- Must be stored in plastic bottles or containers.
- The liquid volume must not exceed 95% of the bottle or container's capacity.
- Each bottle or container must be tightly sealed and individually wrapped with layers of tape.
- The maximum allowable quantity: 3 liters per passenger.
REGULATIONS FOR FRAGILE ITEMS/LUGGAGE
Vietravel Airlines recommends that fragile or easily damaged items should not be placed in checked luggage. The airline is not responsible for damage caused by normal wear and tear, including:
- Minor dents, cuts, scratches from dragging, and stains;
- Damage or loss of external parts of the luggage, including straps, pockets, pull handles, hangers, wheels, external locks, safety straps, or external fasteners, as well as accessories added by passengers.
- Luggage that is improperly packed, insufficiently secured, or oversized, leading to damage;
- Luggage falling under the conditions of the Liability Waiver Card, including damage or loss caused by random inspections by the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) or other security screening activities in various countries.
The following types of suitcases are highly susceptible to damage during loading and transport as checked luggage due to being made from thin and brittle plastic materials. Carrying these items as hand luggage is recommended to ensure the safety of passengers' belongings.

If passengers wish to check in suitcases like those shown above:
Consider wrapping them in plastic before check-in to enhance the safety of such luggage.
A 'Fragile' tag will be attached to the luggage to ensure special handling during service. This type of luggage is considered fragile, and passengers are required to sign a liability waiver when checking it in. Vietravel Airlines will not compensate for any natural damage to such luggage.
