2.1. What do you think are the reasons people choose to dine out when they want to celebrate something?
I think it is mainly because people want a change of scene. Ya know, people in Vietnam normally having meals at home. So, on some special occasion, like birthday, people tend to throw parties at restaurants where cater “globally inspired” food. Moreover, having meals in restaurants, people don’t need to waste time on preparing ingredients and they also don’t need to wash all the plates, bowls afterwards.
2.2. In your country, which type of restaurant is more popular: fast food establishments or traditional restaurants?
I think, in Vietnam, the popularity of these 2 kinds of restaurants is in equal measure. People will go to fast food restaurants on a daily basis because these restaurants are easily accessible to people. Restaurants can be located in small-scale street vendors or in food carts and because of the speed of service, people can enter these restaurants to grab a quick bite when they are in hurry.
However, on some special occasions like birthdays or celebrating some memorable moments, people tend to have meals in conventional ones, especially family-style restaurants which often offer a lengthy menu which a wide range of food selection. People can consume quality food at an affordable price and enjoy a cozy and elegant ambience and good services.
2.3. Some individuals argue that meals at upscale restaurants are always superior to those at less expensive ones – do you agree?
I totally disagree with this idea. I think this idea mainly stems from the work-of-mouth advertising campaigns of these restaurants. We can easily consume numerous tasty dishes in Vietnamese markets at a more affordable price. Sometimes, food served in markets is more appetizing than food served inexpensive restaurants.
Food served inexpensive restaurants can be made from upmarket ingredients and people also can enjoy dining experiences in these restaurants that may charge a lot of money, but in terms of the taste and texture of the food, I don’t think it can be better than that in several markets in Vietnam.
2.4. What types of dining establishments are favored in your country?
In my country, a broad array of dining venues enjoy popularity, catering to a variety of preferences. Local eateries offering traditional dishes such as pho or spring rolls are widely embraced by both locals and visitors. Additionally, fast food chains serving international fare like burgers and pizza are highly frequented, especially among the younger demographic.
Additionally, high-end restaurants that specialize in local and international gourmet cuisine are popular choices for special occasions or upscale dining experiences. Street food vendors play a significant role in our culinary culture by offering affordable and delicious options for quick, on-the-go meals. Therefore, it's evident that the dining scene in my country is lively and diverse.
