A few years ago, I stumbled upon a documentary titled Abstract: The art of design and was so fascinated by it that I ended up binge-watching both seasons in a single night. The episode showcasing how Instagram designers continually innovated really captivated me at the time, prompting me to persuade my parents to support me in pursuing this passion. I successfully convinced them, and now I'm a university student majoring in Digital Product Design, poised to enter the industry in a few years.
This profession demands a lot, as product designers must wear multiple hats - from user research and wireframing to UX writing and even basic software development. I see this as a career that blurs the line between entrepreneur and artist, embracing elements from both realms.
Isn't it wonderful? As a designer of software, features, and apps, I'll be working under the guidance of a product manager, fleshing out wireframes into fully functional products. This work requires a blend of skills, spanning from programming to design thinking, which I aim to acquire throughout my university journey.
Despite its promises, this job can be challenging. To succeed in this field, one must truly be a polymath because digital product designers must be proficient in numerous disciplines. Balancing art and design, strategy and aesthetics, finding elegant solutions to these challenges while maintaining the product's integrity - just imagining excelling in all these areas really stresses me out.
But you know, challenges foster growth, and I believe my adaptability and hardworking nature will propel me up the career ladder.
