I suppose my preference for weather changes depending on the city I'm in. Presently, I reside in Hanoi, my country's capital, so I favor late winter. Even though it's short-lived, the weather is worth anticipating because apart from this period, Hanoi is sweltering, dry, and uncomfortable.

As late winter approaches, the weather becomes pleasant. Not as bitingly cold as in October or November, it's a tad cooler and humid with occasional rain. This is the only time I can wear my winter clothes and socialize without wearing too many layers. One of my favorite spots during this time is the Old Quarter in Hoan Kiem District. Just picture enjoying a hot bowl of Pho then walking along Ta Hien Street on a Saturday morning; it feels truly restorative to me. Plus, late winter also coincides with Christmas Eve and Vietnamese Lunar New Year. The festival vibe during these months always brightens up my mundane everyday life.

However, despite my love for late winter, I face a few challenges during this period; the most frustrating being unexpected rain that can spoil a great day out. Also, I tend to eat more when it's cold, leading to some weight gain during this season. This can be quite disheartening for me at times.

Nevertheless, late winter is undeniably a defining characteristic of Hanoi, and it will forever be my favorite time.
