The maps show the changes made to a small museum and its surroundings in 1990 and 2010

The maps present how a small museum and its nearby area had changed from 1990 to 2010. In general, the museum area had not undergone many dramatic changes, except for the expansion of the car park and the introduction of a new cafe.

The exhibition room opposite the main entrance of the museum used to be an L-shaped building in 1990, but later it had been demolished to make way for the expansion of the shop, located to the left of the entrance. There were two separate exhibition rooms in 1990, but they were combined in 2010 to create one big building. Besides these, lying perpendicular to the merged exhibition rooms and next to the one facing the main entrance, the restaurant remained untouched throughout the period.

In 1990, there was a large garden to the left of the museum, and this remained unchanged in 2010. The cottage to the right of the museum had been replaced by a new cafe in 2010. The car park located opposite the garden in 1990 had been expanded 20 years later thanks to the clearance of the garden.

These days, many people are willing to sacrifice the chance to stay near their families and friends to relocate for work. While this may have certain drawbacks, from my perspective, the benefits are more significant.

On the one hand, people who move away from families and friends are more at the risk of enduring mental health problems. Physical distance usually discourages them from confiding their troubles to their loved ones. This is often the case of migrant workers who keep their suffering to themselves just to ease their families’ worries. Consequently, they are more vulnerable to mental health issues, such as depression, while their families and friends at home remain unaware. This circumstance could even get worse if these people are introverts who tend to distance themselves from their new colleagues.

On the flip side, for individuals relocating for employment, they are more likely to attain career satisfaction. Firstly, there are typically superior professional opportunities available beyond their native area to individuals in their working years. Larger urban centers or nations serve as centers of diverse sectors, offering more career options and considerably higher incomes. Consequently, it becomes considerably simpler for individuals to secure suitable employment. Secondly, this can aid individuals, particularly those transitioning into adulthood, in advancing their careers more rapidly. Living away from family can indeed result in emotional challenges due to family disputes, which could adversely affect their professional performance. Without such potential interference, young individuals can dedicate themselves completely to their work and flourish.

To sum up, due to work commitments, more individuals are residing apart from their families and friends, which presents both advantages and disadvantages, and I opine that this is more advantageous for individuals.
