A particular car journey that remains vivid in my memory is a road trip I embarked on with my family during the spring vacation right after the Covid pandemic. We set off on an adventurous expedition to explore the breathtaking sceneries of the central region in Vietnam.
For me, a road trip had always been a lifelong aspiration; however, none of my family members or friends possessed a driving license back then, which is why I couldn't fulfill this desire. But a few years ago, when my father purchased a brand-new SUV perfect for road trips, my entire family and I eagerly anticipated the exciting adventures ahead as soon as the pandemic restrictions were lifted.
The journey would have been dull and tiresome without great companions. I meticulously planned this one-week excursion for my dear family. It coincided with a national holiday as we intended to make the most of the days off. I also preferred to embark on the journey in pleasant weather conditions, hence springtime was chosen as an ideal period for the road trip.
Our travel plan included visits along the coastline from the northern region to the central area of my country, with the ultimate destination being Hoi An ancient town situated on Vietnam’s central coast. This magnificent World Heritage site is renowned for its charming architecture, unique ambiance blending various eras and styles, delectable local cuisine, and warm hospitality. Additionally, there's a plethora of cultural and shopping activities to indulge in, such as participating in authentic cooking classes, exploring Central market, and engaging in agricultural work in the nearby vegetable village. Whenever I felt fatigued, I would relax on the serene, palm-fringed beaches of An Bang, located not far from the old town center. Although I had visited Hoi An town several times before, experiencing it through a road trip by car was a once-in-a-lifetime adventure that I could share with my family for the first time. That's why it left an indelible impression on me.

1. What advantages does public transportation offer to society?
Public transportation plays a pivotal role in numerous communities and provides various benefits for the populace. Firstly, it contributes to environmental preservation by promoting the use of shared modes of transit over private vehicles, thereby reducing air pollution, noise pollution, and greenhouse gas emissions. This leads to cleaner air, enhanced public health, and a more sustainable future. Another significant advantage is that public transit can mitigate traffic congestion in urban areas. Buses, trains, trams, and subways have greater passenger capacities compared to privately-owned cars, efficiently transporting larger numbers of people within limited space.
-
- play a crucial role: đóng một vai trò quan trọng
- Encouraging citizens: khuyến khích người dân
- shared modes of transportation: phương tiện giao thông chung
- decrease air pollution: giảm ô nhiễm không khí

2. Is obtaining a driver's license at the age of 18 too late?
In my opinion, acquiring a driver's license at the age of 18 is appropriate and may even be beneficial for society. This is because 18 marks the threshold of adulthood, where individuals are expected to take responsibility for their actions, adhere to traffic laws and regulations, and are deemed mature enough to obtain their driver's licenses. It's essential to recognize that age alone does not determine one's ability to become a safe and responsible driver. Each person develops at their own pace, and pursuing a driver's license is never too late.
-
- held accountable for: chịu trách nhiệm về
- follow traffic laws: tuân thủ luật giao thông

- determine one's ability: xác định khả năng của một người
- responsible driver: lái xe có trách nhiệm
- pursuing a driving license: theo đuổi bằng lái xe
3. What characteristics should a driver possess?
As previously mentioned, a driver must have a thorough understanding of traffic regulations and laws. Familiarity with road signs, speed limits, right-of-way rules, and other driving-related information is essential for making informed decisions while driving. Additionally, they should maintain patience and composure in stressful driving situations. Traffic congestion, aggressive drivers, and unexpected delays can test one's patience, but a good driver remains calm, avoids aggressive behaviors, and makes rational decisions to prevent escalating tensions on the road.
-
- thoroughly understand: hiểu rõ
- road signs: biển báo giao thông
- speed limits: giới hạn tốc độ
- right-of-way rules: quy tắc về quyền ưu tiên
- informed decisions: quyết định sáng suốt

- unforeseen delays: sự chậm trễ không lường trước
- refrains from aggressive behaviors: kiềm chế các hành vi hung hăng
- rational decisions: quyết định hợp lý
- escalating tensions: căng thẳng leo thang
4. Should the government enforce the use of public transportation?
Despite the numerous benefits of public transportation, mandating its use may impinge upon individual freedom and choice. Some individuals may prefer the convenience, flexibility, and privacy of using their private vehicles. Additionally, before implementing such a rule, it's crucial for the government to ensure that the public transport network is efficient, well-connected, and capable of accommodating increased demand. Furthermore, there may be circumstances where public transport is not a viable option for certain individuals, such as those residing in remote areas with limited public transport access or individuals with specific mobility requirements.
-
- mandating: bắt buộc
- infringe upon: vi phạm
- accommodating increased demand: đáp ứng nhu cầu gia tăng
- viable option: tùy chọn khả thi
- specific mobility needs: nhu cầu di chuyển cụ thể
